It seems the potential of runaway growth I spoke about a few months ago has really come true in the political arena, especially during the August "recess" of Congress. Gross exaggeration, rude and uncivil behavior at "town hall" meetings with elected representatives, outright lies, people toting guns outside Presidential appearances. (Yes, they were within their legal rights in the States where it happened, but can you imagine what would have happened if they‚d tried to do the same outside an appearance by President Bush? Can you recall the "free speech zones" imposed by the Bush administration?) There certainly didn't seem to be anybody using Saturn's self-discipline during this period.
Hopefully there was more involvement of that energy in our private lives than there was on the national scene. And that you were able to constructively direct the energy of growth and dreams into something productive.
The Fall Equinox doesn't have Jupiter and Neptune as close, so that energy isn't quite as strong, although it will be coming back at us later on (try December). A different type of energy is highlighted in this chart, but a blending that also involves Saturn.
Saturn and Mercury, together in Virgo, are opposite Uranus. One expression of Saturn's energy is to maintain order and structure. One expression of Uranus‚ energy is to disrupt order and structure. So we have a definite opposition in the meanings of these two planetary energies. And since they are also opposite in the heavens, this push-pull dynamic is very strong. We are being asked to make way for the new while holding onto the old, an apparently contradictory situation!
To try to come to grips with this dichotomy, start at one end of the opposition and evaluate it, then look at the other end and try to bring its energy into focus.
Start with the planet closest to the Sun, as that is the planet that will be more "personal."
Saturn, again, can represent our energy to maintain the status quo, but he also represents our stamina, our commitment to a course of action, and our ability to follow through. While in Virgo, these energies can be directed into health issues, into matters dealing with our routines, and other things that demand precision. In his guise as the maintainer of the status quo, he can push us to becoming stuck in our habits. So take some time to evaluate those habits. Do we have health habits that are not healthy? Do we always do things the same way just because that's the way we've always done them?
Uranus, the energy to break with the old, is at the other end, and is the outer of these two planets. So this energy of disruption can seem to be coming from outside our selves. But we need to "own" this energy, we need to become aware of any feelings of dissatisfaction we might have with our existing routines, and exercise conscious control over how and where we apply that energy. (It's generally true in astrology that when we don't do this, when we don't "own" the energy that is transiting through our charts, the energy will usually be applied by some external force or person, thus robbing us of the ability to make our own choices, and tossing us into a reactive mode.)
So we have here a strong pressure to change the way we've been doing things, and it's time to start bringing into this mix some of the other influences in this Ingress chart.
Retrograde Mercury is conjunct Saturn. There is a golden opportunity, then, to put a lot of thought into this process, to re-evaluate those habits with an eye to eliminating any that are counter-productive, and enhancing those that are productive. It's a good time to reflect, but wait a couple more weeks before taking any precipitate action. Mercury goes direct on the 29th of September, so wait until after that time, or be prepared to change courses multiple times!)
Pluto is (widely) square both Saturn and Uranus, making what is called a "T-Square" that funnels energy into the opposition, and stimulates both ends. Pluto represents an irresistible force for change, and can feel pretty oppressive at times. But here, he may be just the force needed to break us loose from old, non-productive patterns. Pluto sits in Capricorn, putting this urge to transform and to get to the underlying truth into the arena of the status quo. (Capricorn is often described as the "old order.") So we see increased pressure to get rid of old structures that no longer work, or that, at least, are no longer efficient in reaching desired goals. Pluto's impact on Uranus might be to slow down the pressure of iconoclasm, as Pluto demands truth for the sake of truth, while Uranus is after change for the sake of change. So it could be that we‚re going to be trying to achieve change for the sake of truth. Not necessarily a "bad" thing, although any transit of Pluto can be high-pressure. At the same time, it's human nature not to change things unless there is something pushing us out of our comfort zone, so having this energy tied in here might be just the push we need to get moving on some improvements.
So it looks like there will be change away from the old ways of doing things. It's to our advantage, on the personal level, to control and direct that change, rather than have it thrust upon us. The Houses in which Saturn, Uranus and Pluto are moving will give us some ideas of where the old patterns are under stress (Saturn's placement), where the impulse for change is coming from (the House opposite transiting Saturn), and the source of the drive for truth (where transiting Pluto sits in your chart.)
And have a look, too, at the House opposite the one that transiting Pluto is in. This "empty leg" of the T-Square can often provide an outlet for the tension inherent in this type of configuration. In this case, it will be the House in your chart containing the early degrees of Cancer. The inherent flavor of this Sign is of family, roots and foundations. So, no matter what areas of life are being activated by the T-Square, a consideration of those issues, along with the issues of your particular chart's placements, can help to resolve the issues coming into consciousness. Mars, while in Cancer during this time, is not close enough by degree to be a true part of this aspect pattern. But his presence in the Sign may lend extra energy and dynamism to deal with the changes needed.
