February's Top Five Astro-Events |
|
|
1. Saturn and Uranus oppose each other on February 5, which is the second of five oppositions between these two planets. This highly dynamic combination emphasizes innovation to overcome stagnation and corruption and/or following tried and true methods to offset wild or radical changes. The Saturn-Uranus tension can bring chaos and fractures to once reliable systems.
2. The Full Moon on February 9 features the Sun in Aquarius conjunct Chiron and Neptune, and spotlights the leaders who urge a healing of partisan wounds (Chiron) for the sake of the collective good (Neptune). With Mars and Jupiter also in Aquarius now, the emphasis on teamwork and group-think reaches a crescendo.
3. Mars conjunct Jupiter on February 17 is a highly energetic combination, urging vast collective projects. Since this conjunction activates the Solar Eclipse of August 1, 2008, one might expect the death or fall of a world leader or two. In special cases, a world leader may suddenly vault into prominence. The Mars-Jupiter conjunction opposes Obama's Leo Sun.
4. Uranus squaring the U.S. Mars on February 17 points to a dramatic increase in military tension wherever U.S. troops or American interests are located. Since this astro-event coincides with the Mars-Jupiter conjunction, expect a round of terrorism to unnerve the status quo, especially around February 14-17. A major U.S. city could experience crippling weather conditions or some other disaster.
5. Pluto opposes the U.S. Venus on February 27, indicating a peak in the banking and credit crisis. This historic, epochal transit creates a do-or-die financial climate, with the strongest corporations surviving and dominating their weaker competitors who must merge or go bankrupt. This is the first of five oppositions, so that the corporate weeding process is just beginning.

Alicia, Jamie and Sam wish a fond farewell to our beloved Sky. A dear friend, he wore one of Alicia's necklaces every day for three years, and told us he "would be lost with out it". Apparently that was true - his necklace fell off while camping this summer, and while his girlfriend traded days of babysitting to replace it this Christmas, it was too late...Sky accidentally left us on January 20. Sky 42 Hawks Frey, we love you and miss you.

Jupiter moves into Aquarius on Jan 5 until January 2010, ushering in a new era of idealism and cooperation. Dysfunctional systems will be transformed! Mercury goes into Retrograde from Jan 11 – Feb 1, first in Aquarius and back into Capricorn – make your plans in the first weeks of January, then ride out the Retrograde, taking action in February. Jan 26 there will be a Solar Eclipse in Aquarius, creating new opportunities for the future; the coordinating Lunar Eclipse on Feb 9 will be a reality check, but denial will keep most from noticing. And last but not least, Saturn in Virgo opposes Uranus in Pisces on Feb 5, with yet another shakeup of the status quo.

During this "economic retrograde," many people have wondered if Wandering Star was going to survive. We've been in business for 13 years almost to the day, and rest assured, we're not going anywhere...except onward and upward to the stars!
Many of our handcrafters have gone out of business, so we decided to reduce the size of our print catalog to just our jewelry and our bestsellers. But our website continues to grow...check out our new 2009 planners !
From the beginning, Alicia designed Wandering Star to support her family and her employees. While we look like a large company, the truth is Alicia does all the orders, website, marketing, and shows herself. Sam and Tina make the jewelry (Alicia still does some too!). Jamie runs the computer network and advises all decisions. Kat has run shipping and receiving for over five years now! Mike designs the catalogs and postcards; Rocco designed the website; Mark does the photography. And so we come to the turning of the year, the Capricorn Ingress. Seeds planted in the Fall are waiting silently underground, preparing to erupt into new growth and life in a few short months. Saturn and Uranus are still opposite each other (and will be for quite some time), so the Uranian urge to change is still fighting with the Saturnian desire to maintain the status quo.
Pluto is now firmly placed in Capricorn, where he will be for many years to come. So the “taste” of his push to change the established order we’ve hat this year will become stronger. Since Pluto is just barely into Capricorn, he is, of course, conjunct the Ingress Sun. Change will come, no doubt about it. Of course, that’s easy to say given the results of the Presidential election, but the astrological indicators were all there, and can help us to make observations about the nature of some of those changes.

The Five Minute Vacation |

This holiday,
I've been so busy with the Holiday Festivals, teaching computers, and
taking care of my two babies that I literally have only had 2 days off
since October.
To keep myself happy and healthy, I have become the master of what I call the "5-Minute Vacation."
When I'm driving and I see a beautiful tree, I stop the car, get out,
stand under it, breathe in the oxygen, and imagine that I've just spent
5 days camping in the woods.
When I was in Safeway the day before yesterday, I
grabbed a bag of chocolate covered raisins and skimmed a copy of People
Magazine from cover to cover, just standing by the checkout line.
At a party, Laurele and I regaled each other with
stories of our wildlife encounters in Costa Rica (I was face-to-face
with a terrified sloth who took 20 minutes to "speed" up the tree; she
told me of a family whole son was stalked and almost hunted by a puma). For Five
Minutes I immersed in a visit to Costa Rica.
My secret during these intervals is to immerse myself
in the moment, breathe, relax, and let go completely. When I'm done,
I'm completely refreshed!
