Spring Equinox 2009 Print E-mail
The Saturn opposition ˆ seemingly to darn near everything else in the sky ˆ continues for the Spring Equinox. (While no one I know would actually consider that to be technically true, since the rest of the planets range from early Capricorn to mid Aries, Saturn is certainly the handle swinging the "bucket" of everything else. As we all know, whoever has the hand on the handle controls where the bucket goes.)

The contest between the old order ˆ Saturn ˆ and the desire for change ˆ Uranus ˆ continues. Since the opposition between these two planets is not as close as at the Winter Solstice, the pressure does not seem as intense, but it is still present. Perhaps there is more room for the forces of change to maneuver, Indeed, if one views the Obama administration as the change, one can see the wheels beginning to move, as they begin to put their policies into effect, and as they catch on to the public relations need to keep reminding the media that they are dealing with the mess left over from the previous administration. Indeed, in the Equinox chart, a closer opposition exists between Saturn and Mercury, the symbol of communication, than between Saturn and Uranus.

Saturn is retrograde in this chart, and retrograde periods always indicate a time to go back over the issues represented. Many of the issues of the past are, in fact, being reviewed. And, in many cases, radically changed. The most recent to come to my mind is the elimination of the prisoner classification of those held at Guantanamo Bay, which will result in their either being charged and brought to trial, or in their being "repatriated" and "rehabilitated." Other issues being revisited include re-regulation of the stock market and banking/lending industries, health care reform and energy policy. Expect to see all of these, and more, in the spotlight of the media. While not actually being addressed in Congress (as far as we can tell!) some parts of the media are making noises about a possible resurrection of  the "fairness doctrine", abandoned by the FCC in 1987. ("The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was (in the Commission's view) honest, equitable and balanced." Wikipedia.) Of course, the media making the most noise about this are the ultra-conservative radio talk shows, who really don't want to have to present any side of any issue but their own.

So keep an eye out for all of these, and more.

When the Ingress is cast for our nation's capital, Uranus and Mercury (and other planets) show up in the chart's 12th house. Behind the scenes, hidden activities are suggested by this placement. Expect there to be a lot of hidden agendas, a lot of things going on that, if revealed, might give credence to the 12th house reputation as the house of "self-undoing." (Which, on a personal level doesn't have to be self-destructive, but can be the energy to look closely and clearly within to find out what makes us tick, and where we need to improve!). But don't expect mainstream media to dig too deeply here. They have too much invested in the status quo. Do your own research online, keep tabs on the people who are supposed to represent you. Pay attention to Stewart, Colbert and Maher, whose satire is often equivalent to the little boy declaring the King has no clothes.

No matter what July 4, 1776 chart you use for the US, Ingress Saturn is conjunct the US natal Neptune and square Mars. While currently moving away from being exact, once Saturn goes direct again these aspects will become closer and closer, becoming exact (for the first time of this long series) on Sept. 15th of this year. Can we, as a nation, productively use the discipline and hard work of Saturn to take action (Mars) to manifest our highest dreams (Neptune), or will we allow the forces of inertia to prevail? Our choice, and we need to make that clear to our elected representatives on all levels.

Viewing the Ingress as a personal transit, we need to place the Ingress planets around the outside or our natal chart and see what contacts it makes to our birth chart, by aspect and house position. Pay particular attention to the two houses that the Saturn Uranus opposition highlights, as these are the two areas of life that are (still) being stimulated by this challenge.

A 1st ˆ 7th House emphasis will be asking you to face the need for change versus the status quo in relation to your self-identity and how you relate to others on a one to one basis. Any kind of individual partnership is to be considered here.

Should it fall across the 2nd ˆ 8th axis, your values and how you deal with shared values come into focus.

If in the 3rd ˆ 9th Houses, the need to reconsider your attitudes toward your neighbor hood in relation to a broader, perhaps global "neighborhood" may become apparent to you.

A 4th ˆ 10th placement of Saturn and Uranus will highlight issues of home and career, foundations and goals.

Should they fall in your 5th ˆ 10th Houses, you might need to deal with issues involving the balance between your private creative life and your social / societal responsibilities.

And, if the 6th ˆ 12th Houses are activated, your approach to work versus your behind the scenes activities that might enhance or hinder your success there.

Of course, there are many more layers of meaning for each house. The ones mentioned here are just to get you started. Check with your local astrologer for more specifics, Google up a list of meanings, and see which are most significant for you at this time.

The House where Saturn shows up will the be area where you need to reexamine your current attitudes and structures. This is the "old guard" that wants to hang on to the old, comfortable ways of doing things. Uranus, in the opposite House, wants to shake  things up and try out something new. Examine these issues clearly and honestly. If the old ways are no longer working, use the energy provided to make the changes needed, no matter how uncomfortable it might seem.
