Cancer (also known as Moonchild) has the same nature as the crab: hard
on the outside and soft on the inside. They often keep outsiders at
arm's length to protect their deeply felt emotions. Once you find your
way into a Cancer's heart, it takes a cataclysmic event to kick you out.
They
tend to be highly intuitive, sensitive, and possess empathic healing
abilities. Cancers must learn to honor their own boundaries, meaning
that they should not pick up every stray animal or person - or at least
let them go after they are nourished and healed.
On a spiritual
level, Cancer helps people to know that they are loved and cared for.
The people who fall through the cracks of society or have unmet
emotional needs fall into Cancer's domain. Never insult the family of a
Cancer person, as family is sacred to them.
Cancer rules the breasts, stomach, ulcers, the disease cancer, children, and milk.
The United States has its Sun in Cancer.

The Moon
The Moon embodies your feelings and emotions. Just as the moon cycles in phases around the earth, so too are your emotions likely to go through phases. If you know the house that your natal moon falls in, you will know what area of your life is likely to go through phases.
The Moon is the ruling planet of the sign Cancer in the fourth house. The moon is associated with the mother, nurturing, family, and your ability to tap into the feelings of other.
The moon rules the public as well. This is because the intuitive nature of the moon helps you to sense what the world around you is feeling.
The sign the moon was in at your birth will help you know how you express your feelings. In an intellectual air sign like Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius, you may have difficulty tuning into your own emotions. However, it can make you quite good at counseling others because you have the ability to detach emotionally. In water signs like Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces, you may be highly in tune with the emotional undercurrents of life. However, you may need to go off in private to separate your feelings from the emotions of those around you.
Physically, the moon is associated with your digestive system, the disease cancer, and breasts.
If you read your daily horoscope, it would be useful to read your moon sign as an indicator of how your emotions are operating for the day.
The Fourth House, Home Life
The Fourth House represents home, family, parenting, traditions, and your general attitude about where & how you live. Because the fourth house is Cardinal or "angular," its emotional
undercurrents can become quite complicated. The 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th
houses are action-oriented and add to the complex dynamics of your
chart.
Ruled by Cancer, it is the place of seeking emotional security.
The difficulty is that to find true emotional security, you must face your insecurities.
How this will manifest in your life depends on the sign on its cusp. A
Taurus fourth house cusp may find security in owning a home, only to
find that they may lose their home due to unforeseen circumstances.
This teaches the person that true emotional security comes from within,
not from a physical object like a house. Naturally, a Taurus fourth
house cusp does not mean you will lose your home, it only means that
you will have to look at your values regarding security in some way.
Information regarding your early childhood can be found in the fourth
house. An Aquarius fourth house cusp, for example, may indicate a home
with unusual circumstances. This could include moving frequently,
eccentric visitors, adoptions, or unusual family relationships.
Most astrologers believe that the fourth house represents the mother,
but it can more accurately be said that the fourth house indicates how
you obtain your nurturing. A Cancer fourth house may prefer a home
cooked meal. A Sagittarius fourth house may feel completely at home
cooking a meal over a campfire stove.

Summer Solstice 2009
The highlight of the Summer Solstice is the continuing conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune, both near the end of Aquarius and both in retrograde motion in the Solstice chart. Saturn, while not exactly opposing as much as he was at the Spring Equinox, is still the handle swinging the bucket of all the other planets, and will continue to exert a strong influence. A good thing, as Jupiter - Neptune can use some grounding.
What's that? Saturn a good thing? How can Saturn, representing limits, discipline and hard work be a good thing here at mid-summer, when we want to relax and enjoy the warm weather and long, sunny days? Yes, indeed. Setting aside the fact that self-discipline is needed to exist and succeed in our society, in this particular case it is even more important, to rein in the Jupiter Neptune conjunction.

Fun at NORWAC
At this year's Northwest Astrology Conference in Seattle, I was up to my usual tricks. At every conference, I've pulled some sort of prank, but most were hard to notice unless you were looking (remember UAC 2008 when we made crop circles?).
The Doubletree is set up with all 8 floors circling a common atrium, the perfect (albeit square) orb. I got the idea to turn it into a giant 3-D star chart...but wasn't sure how. As Sam and I pulled onto the highway for the 3-hour trip to Seattle, I mentioned it to him. He turned to me and said, "Alicia, I have 3-foot balloons that would be perfect!" We looked at each other...were we really going to turn around and head back to Portland even though it was already 10pm? Well, of course!
We strung a giant balloon colored like Planet Earth across the center of the room. Sam blew up balloons that looked somewhat like the planets: A pink heart for Venus, a 5-foot Sun, a giant swirly for Jupiter, a Bunny for Mercury (that we hung upside down because Merc was in retrograde!), a red penis for Mars (which was stolen!).
Not only did we string the balloons around the circle, but I also calculated the latitudes. Some were hung on the floors below Earth, others were several floors above. Pluto was hiding WAY up a corner.
Fun fun fun!

Aries
The story you’ve always told about who you are is about to change. While no one would ever call you shy, the truth is that you still don’t really get profound with your friends. Find a fun way to explore your deep emotions. Then, after you’ve explored all your angst about your mother and insecurities, you can go back to barreling through life headlong and laughing…but never forget what you learned.
Taurus
Feeling compelled to alter your surroundings? A creative solution to a problem at work will give you a whole new outlook on what you can achieve, and the motivation to try a new way. A conversation with family members opens up new possibilities that will unfold over a period of weeks, but you won’t find unconditional support.
Gemini
You’re not, by nature, the nurturing type, and it’s time to shift your focus away from yourself. Your friends have a lot to teach you, and your family represents not just your past but your future as well. Let them know you’re listening, and put in writing how much you care.
Cancer
Everything you’ve thought about yourself is coming to an abrupt end. In fact, during this eclipse season you can pretty much decide who you want to be, and create a new persona of intentional design. A creative approach to money management in July will succeed beyond your expectations, especially if other people are involved.
Leo
Whatever baggage you’ve been carrying around about a past trauma is ready to be dropped off at the station. Write a new uplifting story about what happened, and share it with the person who hurt you. Once the weight has been lifted, you’ll experience new levels of serenity and inner peace. Share your new outlook with your friends and loved ones, and your joy will ripple out and inspire.
Virgo
Shakeups at work are causing you to reevaluate. The stress will affect your health, so take your vitamins and be sure to get to the gym, or at least walk around the block every evening after dinner. A new friend or ally will come to the rescue. Develop a new plan that taps into the source of your being, and take steps to move in that direction.
Libra
Are you seeking your Master, or are you looking for your own disciples? Either way, laugh like the Buddha. You’ll find your teacher where you least expect her, and at the same time discover that someone sees you as her inspiration. Stand proudly on your soapbox and declare your wise words. Your Master will recognize you, and you will appreciate your own mastery.
Scorpio
Poverty conscious defines you at the moment. While frugality is wise, obsessing about it is foolish. Life’s delightful memories come from impromptu gatherings at your dinner table, not from what you do from 9 to 5. However, this traumatic cycle has come full circle, and if you keep a positive attitude you’ll find work that not only satisfies your basic needs but also makes you smile.
Sagittarius
While your family loves you, your flippant attitude is wearing thing. If you catch your brother, sister, or loved one biting their lip, looking at the ground, or sighing when you speak, you’ve got to stop talking. Instead, ask them what you can do differently, and DO THAT instead. Later, you’ll get unexpected money in your pocket; use it to go on an adventure with friends that fosters your spiritual side or self-expression.
Capricorn
The first eclipse is going to shadow you particularly deeply – breathe deep, and only put good food in your body. Come up with a creative solution for your debts. A committed heart-to-heart talk with your dear ones will also work out some of the issues. Most importantly, remember that your attitude is the biggest determining factor. There’s an ebb and flow to life, and remember it’s all for the highest good.
Aquarius
Current events and recent astrological phenomena have you riding high. Use those vibes for creative self-expression. Be sure to nurture yourself and your loved ones—physical wellness is at stake. Shower your lover in praise and adoration, especially if you’re usually reserved. And, don’t be humble; revel in the praise you receive yourself.
Pisces
Your household is ready for a paradigm shift. Your routine is ready to be restructured. Look to your deepest unspoken thoughts for guidance, and implement in a creative way. What would make you feel not just secure, but enthusiastic? Be of gracious service to those who need you most.

A Cancerian Look at the Economy
It is the month of August, a resort town sits next to the shores of a lake. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 dollar bill on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick a room.
The hotel proprietor takes the 100 dollar bill and runs to pay his debt to the butcher. The Butcher takes the 100 dollar bill, and runs to pay his debt to the pig raiser. The pig raiser takes the 100 dollar bill, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.
The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 dollar bill and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her "services" on credit. The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 dollar bill to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.
The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 dollar bill back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.
At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 dollar bill, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.
No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, could be how the United States Government is doing business today.
Instead of, or in addition to, bailing out the financial industry (and instead of giving me $13 extra dollars in my paycheck), earmark money for the citizens. Give us the $75 billion WE need to pay off our:
Credit cards, saving the banking industry.
Mortgages, saving housing.
Car loans, saving the auto industry.
Hospital bills, saving the health industry.
School loans, saving education.
With all the money we've freed up, then the citizens will go shopping, saving the retail industry.
I call this "Trickle UP Economics." Please send it to your congressional representatives, and your friends!
