Aquarius, January 20 to February 19
Aquarius glyph

  • Symbol: Waterbearer
  • Element: Air
  • Quality: Fixed
  • House: 11th, Friends and Society
  • Planet: Uranus
  • Color: Blue
  • Body Part: Knees
  • Trait: Idealistic
  • Semi-precious stone: Amethyst

Aquarius is characterized as progressive, revolutionary, inventive, and idealistic. Although the symbol is that of the Water Bearer, Aquarius is associated with the element of air, or the ethers.

Aquarius helps humanity to understand group consciousness and community. They remind us that we are all One at the core essence of our Being. At the same time, Aquarius honors independence, freedom, and individuality. They teach people that you can be a unique individual and still play nicely with everyone and everything else on planet earth.

An out-of-balance Aquarius may listen to good advice while smiling, then go off and do what they please as if never hearing a word. Aquarians like to spend their time fantasizing about what can be, rather than accept what they see in front of them. As a result, they sometimes get a reputation for being a little flaky.

Aquarians cherish constant change. They'll either make constructive changes to revolutionize the world, or they can make change for the sake of change. Watch out not to stub your toe when they rearrange the furniture...yet again.

If you are in a relationship with an Aquarius, you want to establish a strong friendship with your Aquarian, but give them the space they need to express their individuality.

Uranus

Uranus glyphSince this planet is the butt of many jokes, please pronounce it as YOORanis, with the accent on the first syllable.  In Astrology, Uranus represents independence, freedom, invention, innovation, friends, and revolution.

The seventh planet in our solar system, Uranus's unique claim to fame is that its axis runs from side-to-side and so it rotates horizontally! It also has rings, though fainter than Saturn's. Many of its 21 moons are named after Shakespeare characters.

Uranus is Aquarius's Ruling Planet, which means it is at its greatest strength when it falls in Aquarius or in the 11th House.

When Uranus transits your chart, you simply need to find a new way to do things. Learn to choose change for something better, rather than changing just for the sake of change.

Uranus takes seven years to move through a zodiac sign, so the sign Uranus was in at birth effects a large number of people. This makes the natal house placement of Uranus very important for understanding how it is used in your life. If it's located in the Tenth House of Career, you may prefer to be self-employed, or to at least have a supervisor who doesn’t hover over you. In the Seventh House of Relationships, you may need a marriage partner who gives you plenty of space in the relationship.

Uranus is associated with astrologers, aviators, inventors, and revolutionaries. On a spiritual level, Uranus helps you to break free of self-imposed limitations so you can experience the miracles of the Universe.

The Eleventh House, Friends and Society

The Eleventh HouseThe Eleventh House, ruled by Aquarius, influences friends, intellectual pleasures, socializing, and attitude towards society. It shows your goals and ambitions as they relate to your external relationships. The 11th house represents group consciousness.

This can include community service, humanitarian aid, business-support groups, or community living lifestyles.

The sign on the eleventh house cusp tells about how you approach social situations. Virgo on the cusp may indicate shyness in opening to groups, or they end up in the kitchen cleaning up after the party. Aries may know everyone’s first name at an event, but never stick around to know their last name.

What planets you have in the 11th house describe how you get along with people. Having your Sun in the eleventh house may make you magnetically attractive to everyone. The Moon in the 11th may indicate the person who listens to everyone’s problems and nurtures them like a mother.

Wandering Star's State of the Union 2009During this "economic retrograde," many people have wondered if Wandering Star was going to survive. We've been in business for 13 years almost to the day, and rest assured, we're not going anywhere...except onward and upward to the stars!

Many of our handcrafters have gone out of business, and it's important to be green, so we decided to reduce the size of our print catalog to just our jewelry and our bestsellers. But our website continues to grow...check out our new 2009 daily planners !

From the beginning, Alicia designed Wandering Star to support her family and her employees. While we look like a large company, the truth is Alicia does all the orders, website, marketing, and shows herself. Sam and Tina make the jewelry (Alicia still does some, too!). Jamie runs the computer network and advises all decisions. Kat has run shipping and receiving for over five years now! Mike designs the catalogs and postcards; Rocco designed the website; Mark does the photography. And Caitlin has recently been pitching in as needed for everything from Marketing to childcare. Your purchases directly support real people!

When you call or email us, you'll get Alicia or Jamie directly. Customer service continues to shine!

So, trust that we'll be here to help you design and repair your custom jewelry for years and years to come!

Top Five Astro-Events for January by WolfStar

1. Jupiter enters Aquarius on January 5, and for the next year brings benefits to those who know how to network, build within systems, and participate in group think. Jupiter here advances through team work and with the aid of friends. Internet connections are exceptionally favored January 22-30 as Jupiter trines Pallas.

2. Mercury turns retrograde on January 11 while in a very close square to the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant and Obama's Neptune. For the next three weeks, the president-elect will be busy undoing the Bush agenda, re-thinking the economic stimulus package, and promoting plans that will soon have to be reversed or amended.

3. Transiting Saturn squares the U.S. Mars on January 23, assuring that the military front is a chief consideration for the new administration. The U.S. Mars is also associated with the auto industry, and so the Big Three's perils will likely weigh heavily on Team Obama. In mid-February, transiting Uranus squares the U.S. Mars, keeping the pressure on.

4. Venus in Pisces is conjunct Uranus on January 21, providing a window for some spontaneous romance. This relatively minor astro-event becomes major since Venus also sextiles Mars and opposes Saturn, making for some dynamic relationship developments from January 20-24. The strong sexual tension in the air can create new situations between friends and lovers.

5. The New Moon in Aquarius on January 26 is conjunct Jupiter and Juno, providing a fascinating new start for anyone with planets in early Aquarius or the other fixed signs. This combination favors partnerships of all kinds, but especially those where the diverse partners are treated as equals. Watch for big developments in legal proceedings, especially related to the rights of individuals.

Jan 26 there will be a Solar Eclipse in Aquarius, creating new opportunities for the future; the coordinating Lunar Eclipse on Feb 9 will be a reality check, but denial will keep most from noticing. And For Those of You Who Have Read This Far

Hubble's Top-10 Photos

After correcting an initial problem with the lens, when the Hubble Space Telescope was first launched in 1990, the floating astro-observatory began to relay back to Earth, incredible snapshots of the "final frontier" it was perusing.

Recently, astronauts voted on the top photographs taken by Hubble, in its 16-year journey so far. Remarking in the article from the Daily Mail, reporter Michael Hanlon says the photos "illustrate that our universe is not only deeply strange, but also almostimpossibly beautiful."

Hubble Telescope's top ten greatest space photographs. Awesome!

The Sombrero Galaxy - 28 million light years from Earth - was voted best picture taken by the Hubble telescope.  The dimensions of the galaxy, officially called M104, are asspectacular as its appearance. It has 800 billion suns and is 50,000 light years across.

The Ant Nebula, a cloud of dust and gas whose technical name is Mz3, resembles an ant when observed using ground-based telescopes...  The nebula lies within our galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from Earth.

In third place is Nebula NGC 2392, called "Eskimo" because it looks like a face surrounded by a furry hood.  The hood is, in fact, a ring of comet-shaped objects flying away from a dying star.  Eskimo is 5,000 light years from Earth.

At four is the Cat's Eye Nebula.

The Hourglass Nebula, 8,000 light years away, has a "pinched-in-the-middle" look because the winds that shape it are weaker at the centre.

In sixth place is the Cone Nebula.  The part pictured here is 2.5 light years in length (the equivalent of 23 million return trips to the Moon).

Te Perfect Storm, a small region in the Swan Nebula, 5,500 light years away, described as 'a bubbly ocean of hydrogen and small amounts of oxygen, sulphur and other elements'.

Starry Night, so named because it reminded astronomers of the Van Gogh painting.  It is a halo of light around a star in the Milky Way.

The glowering eyes from 114 million light years away are the swirling cores of two merging galaxies called NGC 2207 and IC 2163 in the distant Canis Major constellation.

The Triffid Nebula. A 'stellar nursery', 9,000 light years from here, it is where new stars are being born.

You have just seen the  Top 10 Hubble Pictures!!!
