Capricorn represents discipline, patience, and rationality. A Capricorn knows the value of sacrificing short-term satisfaction for the long-term goal, and you can rely on them to persevere to get there!

Those born in the sign of the Goat tend to have a good sense of humor, although it is often expressed as a dry wit.

Capricorn understands the value of what has been tried and true - they lean towards conventional wisdom. At the same time, they excel at seeing what's not working in a given situation, and you can depend on them to come up with a plan that will make a difference.

Caps respect tradition and the elders of the culture. In esoteric or spiritual astrology, Capricorn rules initiation. An example would be when ancient Egyptians entered the pyramid: they let their lower self die in order to be initiated into embodying a higher form of their Divine Essence.

Negative traits associated with Capricorn include inflexibility, pessimism, mean-spiritedness, and a tendency to be a stick-in-the-mud.

Capricorn rules antiques, big business, government, the skeletal structure of the body, teeth, clocks, mountains, and depression.

 Saturn

Saturn glyphSaturn is Capricorn's Ruling Planet, which means it is at its greatest strength when it falls in Capricorn or in the 10th House. Saturn represents your challenges, barriers, and life issues. Many astrologers discuss Saturn with a “you poor thing” look in their eyes. However, Saturn is a great helper. Saturn helps you separate what is real and appropriate in your life from that which is not.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and is the second largest in the solar system. Much of what is known about the planet is due to the Voyager explorations in 1980-81.

The atmosphere is primarily composed of hydrogen with small amounts of helium and methane. Saturn is the only planet less dense than water. In the unlikely event that a large enough ocean could be found, Saturn would float in it!

Saturn's ring system makes the planet one of the most beautiful objects in the solar system. The rings may have been formed from larger moons that were shattered by impacts of comets and meteoroids. The ring composition is not known for certain, but the rings show a significant amount of water. They may be composed of icebergs and/or snowballs from a few centimeters to a few meters in size.

Saturn's day is 10 hours, 39 minutes long, and it takes 29.5 Earth years to revolve about the Sun. This 29-year orbit is called your "Saturn Return" by astrologers, and is almost always a pivotal moment in your life.

In astrology, Saturn teaches us some of the hardest lessons in life. According to Mooncatsastrology.com, in order to survive we need to conform to some kind of social order and structure. While that may seem to stifle our creativity, in order to make lasting contributions to society, we must first show proper respect for it.

Saturn is father time. He limits us, and in so doing gives form and structure to our lives. Saturn represents your higher voice, anyone older or wiser than you, those in authority, and any established social order. He is your father, police officer, boss, sergeant, rulebook, school system, judge and government. Saturn keeps you on track, or holds you back, depending on your point of view!

Saturn represents patience, boundaries, restrictions, and life karma. If you have been holding tightly to a relationship that has long lost its reason for being, Saturn will come along to help you release. If you want to start a new business, Saturn will help you do the work necessary for it to succeed.

The trouble comes when you say you want something but are not willing to bring forth the energy necessary for it to manifest. Saturn will help you, but you must do your part. Saturn also requires you to be patient and approach your goals over the long term. If you impatiently “want what you want, and want it now,” Saturn is likely to teach you some lessons in hard work and perseverance.

 The Tenth House, Career

The Tenth HouseThe Tenth House represents your public image and career. The world sees you according to the sign on the tenth house cusp (also called the Midheaven). Capricorn's rulership ensures that you will find big business, government, and other administratively heavy organizations in this area of the chart.

Politicians and Chief Executive Officers are associated with the tenth house.

In esoteric, or spiritually focused, astrology, it is believed that the tenth house cusp indicates aspects that your soul incarnated to accomplish in this life. Whereas the sixth house represented your work, the tenth house indicates career. In the sixth house, you work away like a busy little bee. In the tenth house, you are seen for your accomplishments and/or failures.

Planets in your 10th House will affect your career experiences. Natal Mars in the tenth house may indicate strong ambition if well-aspected in the chart. Jupiter in the tenth house may indicate a person who appears larger than life, or one who is known for coaching and encouraging those in her/his charge.

In the same way, the sign on the cusp of your 10th House affects your attitudes towards ambition. Aquarius in the tenth house may be a person who prefers to work alone, or own his or her own business. Leo in the tenth house may be a person who prefers supervisory positions.

Top Five Astro-Events for December by WolfStar
1. The Sun conjoins Mars on December 5, giving an energetic boost to all activities from the 1st to 7th. Starting new projects and recreational activities is favored. Meet hotheads, arrogance and highly opinionated people with patience. Watch out for accidents, especially as Mars advances to square Saturn and Uranus through the 15th.

2. The Full Moon on December 12 squares the ongoing Saturn-Uranus polarity, as all four planets align with the U.S. Mars. This highly stressful complex can bring traffic snarls and short tempers. The Full Moon is exactly conjunct the U.S. Mars, bringing major developments in the automobile industry, and perhaps a minor disaster in an American city.

3. Barack Obama's progressed Moon enters his first house on December 17. For the past two years, while his progressed Moon was in the 12th house, he voiced the collective aspirations to wage a successful campaign. Now, the president elect emerges with his plan for action and the necessary people in place to implement the changes.

4. The Sun conjunct Pluto on December 22 marks the first recognizable manifestation of Pluto in Capricorn. This power day brings a constructive surge of political, financial, and military actions on the world stage. Also, watch for ruthless power plays and strong-arm actions as the destructive side of Pluto is energized by a conjunction with Mars on the 28th.

5. Transiting Jupiter conjoins the U.S. Pluto on December 25, ushering in a renewed sense of optimism. Signs of economic stability may trigger a round of institutional buying and a technical rebound, though the long term remains uncertain. This conjunction takes place once every twelve years, and previously initiated the second terms of both Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.

Winter Solstice 2008 by David Ockrassa

And so we come to the turning of the year, the Capricorn Ingress. Seeds planted in the Fall are waiting silently underground, preparing to erupt into new growth and life in a few short months. Saturn and Uranus are still opposite each other (and will be for quite some time), so the Uranian urge to change is still fighting with the Saturnian desire to maintain the status quo.

Pluto is now firmly placed in Capricorn, where he will be for many years to come. So the “taste” of his push to change the established order we’ve hat this year will become stronger. Since Pluto is just barely into Capricorn, he is, of course, conjunct the Ingress Sun. Change will come, no doubt about it. Of course, that’s easy to say given the results of the Presidential election, but the astrological indicators were all there, and can help us to make observations about the nature of some of those changes.

New Beader! Welcome, Tina!

Wandering Star has a new Beader! Meet Tina. She's been a friend of ours for years, and cuts our hair. She did my hair and makeup on the new Catalog cover .  And, she's been making her own jewelry for years.

In October when I was sitting in her chair talking about our upcoming Christmas crunch, she got really excited and asked if I needed help. The answer was yes!

Tina is the most enthusiastic person I've ever met. And, every time she makes a new batch of jewelry, someone buys one of the pieces almost immediately! I appreciate that people can feel her wonderful energy in her beads.

And For Those of You Who Have Read This Far

The Five Minute Vacation

This holiday, I've been so busy with the Holiday Festivals, teaching computers, and taking care of my two babies that I literally have only had 2 days off since October.

To keep myself happy and healthy, I have become the master of what I call the "5-Minute Vacation."

When I'm driving and I see a beautiful tree, I stop the car, get out, stand under it, breathe in the oxygen, and imagine that I've just spent 5 days camping in the woods.

When I was in Safeway the day before yesterday, I grabbed a bag of chocolate covered raisins and skimmed a copy of People Magazine from cover to cover, just standing by the checkout line.

At a party, Laurele and I regaled each other with stories of our wildlife encounters in Costa Rica (I was face-to-face with a terrified sloth who took 20 minutes to "speed" up the tree; she told me of a family whole son was almost hunted by a puma). For Five Minutes I got to go to Costa Rica.

My secret during these intervals is to immerse myself in the moment, breathe, relax, and let go completely. When I'm done, I'm completely refreshed!
