Mars Poised for Action over Iran

Iran's March 23 seizure of 15 British sailors has aggravated an already tense situation regarding Iran's nuclear program, and while diplomatic solutions remain elusive, the U.S. conducted massive war games in the Persian Gulf. Over the last several months, rumors of an American invasion have circulated freely, but not until last week have the oil traders become worried, as oil futures surged to nearly $70/barrel.

Iran's horoscope, as well as the U.S. horoscope relocated to Tehran, describes the mounting crisis along the Persian Gulf, through which 25 percent of the world's crude must pass. As described in NewsScope's February 26 column, transiting Mars entering the Saturn-Neptune polarity (March 21-25) would trigger the underlying tension, and this was exactly when Iranian armed forces captured the British patrol.

Iran's most recent tactic was the threat to put the 15 marines on trial, which could extend the crisis into when Mars enters Pisces on April 6. Aggressive Mars in the oil-ruled sign of Pisces clicks off one danger point after another, and unless this crisis is resolved soon, a military invasion cannot be ruled out. Why aren't the American media discussing this?

Transiting Mars in Pisces opposes Bush's Mars in Virgo, which puts him in an exceptionally confrontational mood in mid-April. Then Mars goes on to conjoin Uranus at the end of April, an extremely explosive combination. The U.S. horoscope relocated to Tehran features the natal Mars-Neptune square right on the angles, and this dynamic gets activated in early May. The most dangerous alignment arrives on May 11, when transiting Mars activates the recent Solar Eclipse at 28º Pisces.

Presidential Politics

A number of readers wrote in to ask about presidential candidates and the connection to the U.S. Moon at 25º Aquarius. One astrologer questioned why John Edwards would not be viable: "Sun in 19º Gemini and his Mars is at 27º Gemini sure looks in the 25-degree area to me." Simply stated, when using the national horoscope*, the orbs must be extremely tight: 1⁄2 degree or closer.

Another reader asks about Michael Bloomberg: "There is talk of him running as an Independent and he has his Sun at 25º Aquarius." We'll have to keep an eye on this, but so far Bloomberg has only downplayed the possibility, without totally ruling it out. However, with the Sun at 25º Aquarius, he probably has a better chance than Rudy Giuliani.

An unabashed fan of Dennis Kucinich writes, "I notice that Kucinich's Chiron at 25º23' Libra trines the U.S. Moon at 25º28' Aquarius... sometime I get my math mixed up, but isn't this just five minutes difference?" Yes, you have the math right. I use this formula - the connection to the U.S. Moon - to distinguish between the top tier candidates.

Kucinich doesn't quite rank there, so he's not included in the comparison. You can imagine how many people in this country have planets at 25º, so one has to draw the line somewhere, and for me, that's with the candidates who actually have a chance of winning. If you do his secondary progressions, his Mercury is at 25º Scorpio, which squares the U.S. Moon. This makes him a bit radical or unusual for most Americans, though it does connect very well with a faction.

Sanjaya Malakar Survives Another Week of American Idol

Although he may not be the best singer in American Idol's top nine, Sanjaya Malakar is getting the most attention, and may yet advance over the coming weeks. Last week, Sanjaya wore an elaborately coiffed fauxhawk, a wild, spiky hairstyle that distracted from his off-key, fumbling lyrics. Despite the judges' harsh critiques, he once again avoided being voted off.

Sanjaya Malakar was born with a Sun-Mars conjunction in tone-deaf Virgo (September 10, 1989; Federal Way, WA; time unknown), a combination that gives him courage and boldness. The teen idol was born during the triple outer-planet conjunction in Capricorn, which corresponded to a time when many walls and cultural barriers came down. His Moon is also in Capricorn, giving him ambition and strong sense of family values.

With Mercury in fashion-conscious Libra, Sanjaya has a good sense of balance and esthetics, but since his Mercury squares the outer planet complex in Capricorn, his style ideas become wild and crazy. Mercury also squares Jupiter in Cancer, adding an enthusiastic charm and showmanship that keeps America entertained. Sanjaya's unique link to the American public can be seen in his North Node, which is located at 25º Aquarius, exactly conjunct the U.S. Moon.

His two supporting factions include a vast teenaged fan base, and perversely, Sirius Satellite DJ Howard Stern (January 12, 1954), who has been instrumental in keeping Sanjaya around with his "support the worst contestant" program. Capricorn Stern has many close planetary connections with Sanjaya. Most notably, his Ceres is conjunct Sanjaya's Mercury, giving the raunch jock a parental sense of protection over the lad.

* This parameter, using the U.S. Moon, works if, and only if, one uses the Scorpio Rising horoscope. Otherwise, the Moon is not at 25 degrees. It's a straightforward verification of this national horoscope.
