Democrats in Revolt

A reader requests a NewsScope section on Joseph Lieberman's independent run for the Senate in Connecticut. Since Lieberman lost the August 8 Democratic Senate primary - due in large part to his support for the Iraq war - he vows to run as an Independent in the November election. These developments reflect a deeper battle for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party.

The origin of the Democratic Party can be traced to a May 13, 1792 letter* from Thomas Jefferson, and a horoscope set for this date (noon, Philadelphia, PA) can be used to track current developments. This chart features Uranus at 15º04' Leo, and at the moment Lieberman conceded defeat, transiting Saturn was at 15º03' Leo.

This strong confirmation of the Democratic Party horoscope reflects the climactic clash between the more conservative element (Saturn) and its more progressive or independent faction (Uranus). Lieberman himself (February 24, 1942; 7:00 am; Stamford, CT) has Mars exactly conjunct the Democratic Sun in Taurus. His Mars is conjunct Saturn on one side and Uranus on the other, so that he personally can go this way or that.

The Democratic Party was born during the French Revolution, and under the influence of a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction opposite Saturn. These three outer planets in combination represent a rare celestial signature, and whenever they come into mutual aspect, the Democratic Party itself is in the process of revolution. Democrats should be getting their act together over the next few months, as transiting Saturn and Neptune oppose each other while squaring Jupiter.

Ceres, The Next Planet

On August 24, astronomers convening in Prague will decide if Pluto is a planet or not, and along the way, may elevate the largest asteroid Ceres to the status of a planet. With this potential official stamp of approval, many astrologers are scrambling to better understand Ceres and what she's doing in the horoscope*. However, NewsScope readers already know that Ceres is associated with relief operations, the food industry, and parent-child relationships.

Ceres is currently traveling through Aquarius and is conjunct Neptune. Ceres here takes on the humanitarian concerns of Aquarius and the idealistic, compassionate vibration of Neptune. In this mode, Ceres promotes the return of refugees to southern Lebanon and the immense clean-up task. As described in NewsScope July 31, the opposition from Saturn reflects the many obstacles to this process which should get easier by the end of the month.

Ceres, in her role as Goddess of the Grains, is concurrently pushing for reforms in the organic milk industry. Ceres conjunct Neptune can be seen as the organic purists who don't want organic milk to originate from corporate factory farms where cows are treated miserably. The Saturn-in-Leo factor represents the structured, large-scale production that allows organic milk to reach broad markets. In a related story, the USDA announced that the commercial supply of long-grain rice was contaminated with an unsafe, genetically altered variety.

In political news, Ceres is often personified by a woman, especially one who evokes a caring or protective quality. Last week, federal judge Anna Taylor ruled that the White House's wiretapping program is illegal and unconstitutional. Ceres in Aquarius upholds the civil rights we associate with Aquarius, while Ceres opposite Saturn in Leo represents the ruling against the Bush monarchy. "There are no hereditary kings in America," declared the Judge.

Ceres in the JonBenet Mystery

The ultimate cold case suddenly became hot last week when authorities arrested John Karr as a suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey murder mystery. Astrologer and internet sleuth Judy Johns quickly tracked down his birth data, and posted it at [email protected]. Concurrent with the breaking news story, Ceres - describing the parent-child relationship - was a major astrological player.

Karr was born on December 11, 1964 (Hamilton, AL; time unknown). His natal Mars in Virgo is under major dynamic tension with a conjunction to the epochal Uranus-Pluto conjunction. At the time of his arrest, transiting Mars was conjunct his natal Mars, reflecting the intense action around him. Curiously, transiting Mars was making no hits to his natal chart at the time of JonBenet's murder.

The most telling astrological measurement connecting John Karr's chart to Christmas 1996 was his progressed Sun, which was exactly conjunct his natal Ceres. Ceres is a caring, loving vibration, especially in the parent-child relationship. In a pedophile's chart, Ceres can portray an abnormal sexual love of children. Karr's obsessive emails about JonBenet show his attachment to the Ceres archetype: "I can relate very well to children and the way they think and feel."

Karr was arrested as transiting Ceres and Neptune were conjunct, with that combination squaring his own Venus-Neptune conjunction. Without a birth time, one can't be sure, but again, there's more precise astrological activation during his arrest than during the actual murder. Ceres-Neptune sparked intense rumors, but as Ceres goes on to oppose realistic Saturn, the astrologer might reasonably expect that the DNA evidence won't match.
