Nasrallah in Iranian Embassy

Across Europe and around the globe came widespread demand for an immediate cease-fire to the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict. However, the U.S. has given Israel the green light to proceed with its attempt to rout out Hezbollah. According to U.S. intelligence, Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassad Nasrallah is hiding out in the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, so that this conflict is becoming a proxy war between the U.S. and Iran.

Nasrallah was born on August 31, 1960 (Beirut; time unknown) with his Virgo Sun conjunct Pluto on one side and Mercury on the other. This Sun-Mercury-Pluto combination carries a laser-like focus of intention and will power, evident in his determined fight against Israel. Sun-Mercury-Pluto moves in and out of the mythological underworld (associated with Pluto), which, in Middle East politics, is the world of espionage and terrorism.

Nasrallah has Jupiter in Sagittarius, and most likely, his Moon is also found in the sign of religion. From an early age, he used his studious Virgo mind to explore the Koran from the Shia perspective. This path led him to the Islamic seminary in Najaf, Iraq, and later, Iran's Shi'ite community in the holy city of Qom. Nasrallah firmly believes that Islam can solve any of society's problems.

This week, transiting Mars is conjunct Nasrallah's Sun, so the international community can expect no cease-fire coming out of Southern Lebanon. Naturally, Nasrallah is being targeted by Israeli militia, which is weighing an attack on the Iranian Embassy. Watch around August 18-20 (as transiting Mars squares Nasrallah's Mars) for a key battle featuring the Hezbollah leader. If he survives, he may become the Jihad leader when Pluto turns direct on his Jupiter at the end of August.

Top Five Astro-Events for August

1. Saturn opposite Neptune - is exact August 30, but the major geopolitical influence throughout August. Law and order are challenged by chaos, as events spin out of control. Oil supplies and prices become unstable. Watch on August 6-7 when the Sun conjoins Saturn for global summits, as strong leaders promote controversial actions.

2. Transiting Chiron trioctile U.S. Mars is exact on August 12, but a driving dynamic through the first half of August. In the U.S. horoscope, Chiron is associated with the military, so expect increased action from the U.S. ground forces in Iraq and elsewhere, as they face mounting, perhaps overwhelming pressure, from enemy agents.

3. Mars in the service sign of Virgo makes several hard aspects this month (square the U.S. Uranus on August 5, opposite transiting Uranus on August 13, square U.S. Mars on August 22, and square transiting Pluto on August 30), guaranteeing plenty of severe military confrontations, terrorist activities, work and health-related conflicts, and irreconcilable differences.

4. Transiting Saturn conjunct U.S. Midheaven on August 17 - this transit always brings historic developments and turning points, generally associated with the U.S. standing in global affairs and its leadership responsibility in maintaining world peace. Since Neptune opposes the U.S. Midheaven, expect fundamental disagreement over the executive branch's foreign and domestic policies.

5. Ceres opposes Saturn on August 24, but is a major influence during the second half of August. Ceres in hard aspect to the outer planets often corresponds to relief work in response to major natural disasters. This indicates tremendous loss of life and property due to a hurricane, earthquake, or global warming-related incident.

Lance Bass Comes Out

'N Sync band member Lance Bass came out in a big way last week when he told People magazine that he's gay. Explaining his timing, he said "I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said [that I was gay], it would overpower everything."

Lance Bass was born with his Sun in earthy Taurus (May 4, 1979; Laurel, MS; time unknown) conjunct Chiron. Those with hard Sun-Chiron aspects tend to feel unworthy or "wounded" in some way. Often, the only way to overcome this inner hurt is by getting tremendous recognition from the external world. Many celebrities and politicians have this Sun-Chiron aspect, including George W. Bush and Madonna.

Lance's Mars in Aries is generally considered to be well-placed, and a sign of boldness, courage, and pure masculinity. Among the many aspects radiating out from his Mars is a conjunction with Mercury and an opposition to Pluto. The Mercury-Pluto aspect tends to obsess about issues and problems, and when Mars is involved, it can mean obsessing about one's sexual orientation.

Last week, Lance experienced transiting Saturn exactly squaring his Sun, while transiting Jupiter opposed his Chiron*. This combination offered him the opportunity (Jupiter) to get real (Saturn) with his inner wound, or his feelings about being different. At the same time, transiting Mercury (communication) turned direct while exactly squaring his Mars, allowing him to express his true direction.

* also note that by secondary progression, Mars has advanced to 11º Cancer to form a conjunction with his progressed Chiron. For more on Lance Bass, see NewsScope September 3, 2002.
