Dick Cheney Shoots a Man in Texas
Harry Whittington (March 3, 1927), the Texas lawyer shot by Dick
Cheney, appeared before the media last Thursday, and apologized
for all the trouble the incident caused. While it may seem natural
to astrologers that a Pisces should apologize for being a victim,
his healthy presence did reduce the Vice President's political
and legal liability to mere embarrassment.
The shooting incident,
what Cheney (January 30,
1941; 7:30 pm; Lincoln,
NB) called "one of
the worst days of my life",
took place on February
11 as transiting Mars was
right on his Midheaven.
Mars, the natural ruler
of weapons and shootings,
was the activating celestial
agent that led to this
iconic event. But since
Mars is here every two
years, it wasn't the chief
culprit.
Mars by secondary progression*
moves much more slowly,
and had entered into an
opposition with his natal
Pluto. This activates the
Veep's natal Sun-Pluto
opposition. Considering
that Pluto sits on the
cusp of the secretive 12th
house, Cheney can become
pre-occupied – even
obsessed – with secrets,
enemies, and enemy action.
In this case, Pluto's nature
makes one so focused on
the target that he discounts
any possible collateral
damage.
As the chief architect
and defender of the invasion
of Iraq, Cheney acted in
a similar way, reflecting
the Sun-Pluto's tendency
to focus on the enemy without
regard to the consequences.
Currently, Cheney's progressed
Midheaven is exactly (to-the-minute)
conjunct his Pluto. His
fate (MC) is sealed with
this life-transforming
(Pluto), but relatively
minor hunting accident.
Those who can think symbolically
will see the larger parallels.
Ben Bernanke Replaces Alan Greenspan
Last week, Benjamin Bernanke
testified before the Congressional Banking Committee, offering
the first public view of the new Federal Reserve Board Chairman
in action. What does it take to be appointed to the most powerful
job in the world? Besides having the usual superb resume in
macro-economics and high finance, it also helps to have specific
astrological signatures.
Saturn in Scorpio in aspect
to the Sun is a qualifying
placement, since Saturn
represents authority and
Scorpio is the sign associated
with interest rates, investments,
and capitalism. Being the
lead authority over these
areas was a natural for
Alan Greenspan (March 5,
1926) since he was born
with Saturn in Scorpio
trine his Sun. Bernanke
(December 13, 1953) has
Saturn in Scorpio octile
(45º) his Sun.
Both men have Sun trine
Pluto, a personally empowering
connection allying the
individual ego (Sun) with
financial influence (Pluto).
Both men have close Jupiter-Pluto
aspects, which often indicate
personal wealth, as well
as the handling of huge
assets. Managing the economic
ebbs and flows is often
compared to hydrology,
and for this it's helpful
to have planets in Pisces.
Bernanke's Moon in Pisces
shows that he is receptive
to Greenspan's leadership,
since it's conjunct the
former chairman's Pisces
Sun.
A key difference between
their charts is that Bernanke's
Sagittarius Sun opposes
Jupiter, giving him an
abundance of optimism.
Greenspan has no Sun-Jupiter
aspect, and his Mercury
opposite Saturn made him
a bit of a curmudgeon,
and far more cautious than
Bernanke is likely to be.
With Bernanke's Jupiter
so prominent, he's more
likely to paint rosy pictures
while he keeps a close
eye on inflation.
Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon versus Keira Knightley
Who
will win the Academy Award for Best Actress this year? Curiously,
two of the nominees were born on December 16 – Judy Dench
(1934) and Felicity Huffman (1962). Even more curiously, another
two were born on March 22 – Reese Witherspoon (1976) and
Keira Knightley (1985). The fifth, Charlize Theron, was born on
August 7, 1975.
Since the Solar Eclipse on
March 29 will be in Aries,
this Hollywood handicapper
favors the Rams. Reese Witherspoon's
Venus in Pisces is being activated
by transiting Uranus as the
March 5 ceremony approaches,
bathing her in the exciting,
electric aura of an exalted
goddess. That evening, Venus
enters Aquarius, where she
forms a favorable sextile to
Reese's Sun, further enhancing
her chances.
However, transiting Mars is
squaring Reese's Venus, presenting
her with a strong competitor.
Mars, as the natural ruler
of Aries, points to Keira Knightley,
who has her Sun, Moon, Mercury
and Venus all in Aries. In
addition, Keira has Pallas,
the goddess of war, at 9º Aries,
right in line with the Solar
Eclipse. Many of Keira's films
reflect her competitive Aries
nature, including Bend It Like
Beckham, Pirates of the Caribbean,
and as the feisty, bold Elizabeth
Bennet in Pride and Prejudice.
Naturally, transiting Venus
also sextiles Keira's Sun on
March 5, gracing her with beauty
and charm. By secondary progression,
her Venus is at 9º Aries,
where it brings success and
recognition by being conjunct
Pallas and perfectly sextile
Jupiter. The Solar Eclipse
activating this lucky combination
gives her a good shot at becoming
the youngest winner ever of
the Best Actress Award.
* Based on the fractal equivalency
that one day is shaped the
same as one year after birth.
Progressed Mars advances at
the rate of 2/3 degree/year,
while the progressed Midheaven
moves at one degree per year.
