Spotlight on Cheney
In the aftermath of Scooter Libby's indictment and resignation,
many questions remain unanswered. Would Karl Rove be next? One
of the most significant questions concerns what did Vice President
Cheney said to Libby The indictment indicates that Libby heard
directly from Cheney that Joe Wilson's wife worked for the CIA.
Was Libby falling on his sword to protect his boss (as Gordon
Liddy did during Watergate), or was he acting alone?
A central dynamic in Dick
Cheney's horoscope (January
30, 1941; 7:30 pm; Lincoln,
NB) is his Aquarius Sun
opposite Pluto in the twelfth
house. This polarity brings
a heightened awareness
(Sun) of secret enemies
(Pluto in twelfth), whether
they be personal political
enemies or international
terrorists. Cheney's Pluto
is given a warrior's ferocity
since it forms a close
aspect (135º or trioctile)
to Mars.
Scooter Libby (August 22,
1950) has Mars in Pluto's
sign Scorpio, so that his
sense of hardball politics
is similar to Cheney's.
This Mars is right on the
U.S. Scorpio Ascendant,
now being activated by
the lunation described
in last week's NewsScope.
Over the last few weeks
authoritative Saturn has
been squaring his Mars,
and remains in a long-term
square through June 2006.
Cheney's chart is under
immediate stress. As the
indictments were read,
transiting Saturn was precisely
opposite his Sun (orb 0º03'),
while transiting Pluto
was similarly square Cheney's
Moon (orb 0º02').
Cheney's progressed chart
reveals that he's heading
into the political fight
of his life, as his progressed
Mars opposes Pluto over
the coming year.
Parallels to the Past
The political earthquake
shaking Washington has strong parallels to the Watergate scandal.
The current legal case began as an investigation into who outed
Valerie Plame and why, but is proceeding under the assumption
of a high-level cover-up. In the same way, Nixon's downfall
began as an investigation into the Watergate break-in, and evolved
quickly into an investigation into a high-level cover-up.
In both cases, the U.S.
Pluto was under major activation
as the scandal emerged.
Pluto is the ruling planet
of the nation when considering
that Scorpio Rising U.S.
horoscope (2:21 pm; July
4, 1776). In 1973 as the
Watergate hearings began,
the U.S. progressed Sun
was conjunct Pluto for
the first and only time
in its history. Nixon resigned
on August 8, 1974 as transiting
Saturn was conjunct the
U.S. Sun (orb 0º03').
As described over the last
month, transiting Chiron
just turned direct on the
U.S. Pluto at the same
time that transiting Jupiter
squared the U.S. Pluto.
This powerful combination
represents the beginning
of a political power struggle,
which will likely unfold
over the next year. Transiting
Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune
will be forming a dynamic
T-Square, which happens
to align with the U.S.
Midheaven.
Hard Neptune aspects to
the U.S. Midheaven often
coincide with the death
of a President in office,
and Bush is in the midst
of that mysterious cycle.
However, the last President
to experience this transit
was Reagan, who managed
to survive. His incipient
Alzheimer's relegated him
to an actor's role, while
his duties were assumed
by his chief of staff.
Will Bush become an inconsequential
figurehead?
John Coltrane's Aquarian Treasure
A
surprising development in the world of jazz seems paradoxical,
since the very nature of jazz is about surprising developments.
Nevertheless, saxophonist John Coltrane held two of the top three
jazz albums last week, even though he died in 1967. "Live
at the Half Note" was discovered by his son Ravi, while a
Voice of America tape, "At Carnegie Hall", features Coltrane
paired with Thelonious Monk.
John Coltrane was born with
his Sun in partnership-oriented
Libra (September 23, 1926;
5:00 pm; Hamlet, NC), and along
with Mercury and Venus, is
placed in the seventh house
of partners. While these placements
might indicate an interest
in blending in with a musical
group, the need for powerful
personal expression is emphasized
by the Moon in pioneering Aries
and the Sun opposite Uranus.
Jazz is uniquely suited to
balance individual needs with
the group needs. Each player
takes turns with a personal
style, as the others support
the improvisations. This synergistic
blend is the hallmark of Aquarius,
and Coltrane was one of the
great masters who performed
within the jazz quintet. Coltrane's
Jupiter in Aquarius represents
this ideal of creative group
consciousness.
However, Coltrane's Jupiter
is hidden in the twelfth house
of secrets. Call it buried
treasure.... On April 6, 2005,
the Library of Congress announced
that it had found the rare
1957 tape of Monk and Coltrane.,
as transiting Mars and Neptune
were conjunct each other, and
right on Coltrane's Jupiter.
Transiting Neptune remains
in this degree area for some
time, and Ravi Coltrane says
he has unearthed more hidden
tapes.
