Bush Consolidates his Victory
Last week President Bush was credited by Democrats and Republicans alike for the sweeping GOP victories in an extremely close election. Political analysts say that voters were convinced of Bush's wartime priorities rather than the Democrats' economic agenda. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council, responding to Colin Powell's diplomacy, voted unanimously to require Iraq to document its weapons program or face severe consequences.
George W. Bush's horoscope (July 6, 1946; 7:26 am; New Haven, CT) reflects his current exceptional status on the world stage. The key natal aspect describing his good fortune is Jupiter trine Uranus. Jupiter-Uranus people are celestially positioned for sudden windfalls, and Bush is now cashing in due to an unusual confluence of favorable influences.
The major factor is his progressed Midheaven, describing his social status. The progressed Midheaven is now in a once-in-a-lifetime, exact trine to beneficial Jupiter, an astrological signature denoting success, honor and recognition. In less than a year the progressed Midheaven will be conjunct Uranus. Uranus here aligns with the U.S. Mars, and therefore represents his connection to the Pentagon.
Also, transiting Jupiter is favorably sextile Uranus on the one hand and Jupiter on the other. Jupiter turns retrograde on December 4 as it forms an exact sextile to Bush's natal Jupiter. This set-up ensures that Bush remains popular and full of opportunities. Meanwhile, transiting Pluto will be opposing his Uranus by late January. This planetary combination is a sure sign that Bush's war plans are leading to direct confrontation.
Venus, The Goddess of War
Venus is often referred to as the love planet, and when she is prominent people look for ways to get along. In international politics Venus is associated with diplomacy, cooperation, and negotiation. Curiously, in Mayan astrology Venus is known as the war planet, but this may not be as contradictory as it seems since it takes agreement amongst leaders to take on a troublemaker.
Case in point: Venus turned retrograde on October 10 at the end of an extended Congressional debate. The issue was whether or not to grant President Bush legislative approval to invade Iraq. The debate was intense and sincere, but just as Venus turned retrograde (while squaring the U.S. Midheaven), Congress pulled together to allow Bush this unprecedented backing. Venus at her full power brought rare accord between opposing political parties.
Now Venus is about to turn direct, and the United Nations Security Council has likewise found rare accord between competing global powers. As various countries individually tried to deal with Bush's threat of unilateral action, the United Nations turned out to be the only effective restraining force. Venus turns direct on November 21 very near the UN Sun (October 24, 1945; 4:45 pm; Washington DC), showing renewed popularity and admiration for the world body.
Venus's warlike nature is underscored now because she is in Scorpio, the sign of the warrior. On December 1 Mars enters Scorpio, and follows in her diplomatic footsteps. Mars, the war planet, in Scorpio is poised to use lethal force, like the scorpion with its stinger raised. Since Mars squares Neptune and then Uranus in Aquarius, we can expect some significant challenges to U.S. military action from within the global forum.
Winona Ryder: Saks, Lies, and Videotape
Last Wednesday Winona Ryder was found guilty of grand theft and felony vandalism, charges stemming from last year's escapade at the posh Beverly Hills Saks Fifth Avenue. She was caught on videotape stuffing her tote bag with $5,500 of unpaid merchandise. Jurors did not buy her story that she was practicing for an upcoming movie role.
Winona Ryder was born a secretive Scorpio (October 29, 1971; 11:00 am; Rochester, MN*) with her Mercury and Venus also in Scorpio. Mercury and Venus form a conjunction, giving her a romantic nature, often preoccupied with thoughts (Mercury) of love and beauty (Venus). With trendy Sagittarius Rising, the Mercury-Venus easily turns to fashionable, designer clothes and styles.
Ryder's Mercury-Venus is under severe stress by being square to Mars. Mercury square Mars by itself carries a great deal of mental agitation, irritability, and nervousness. While this Mercury-Mars can be developed in a constructive way, it is often found in the charts of petty thieves and shoplifters. Throw chic Venus into the equation, and we have the potential for shoplifting from an upscale boutique.
Transiting Uranus was activating this Mercury-Venus-Mars complex last December 12 when she was caught. At the same time transiting Venus was conjunct her Ascendant. Venus on the Ascendant naturally attracts cameras and admirers. Now Venus is conjunct her Sun, and she may have gotten what she wanted all along: a lot of attention. Her lawyer says he plans to file a motion for a new trial.
