Uranus Upsets New Jersey Election
New Jersey's Senate race fell into chaos last week after the Democratic candidate Robert Torricelli abruptly resigned. The Democrats quickly replaced him with former Senator Frank Lautenberg, a move contested by the Republicans, but cleared by the New Jersey Supreme Court. The election has major implications for the nation since Democrats control the Senate by only one seat.
New Jersey, like the other 12 original colonies, became a state when transiting Pluto was in Aquarius, and just entering the U.S. fourth house (using the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope). Pluto here represents the political foundation of the country, and any major transit or progression to this point can upset the foundation. New Jersey officially became a state on December 18, 1787 (Trenton, NJ; " in the afternoon"), and a chart drawn up for this beginning reflects New Jersey's current situation.
New Jersey's horoscope is currently under major pressure from the outer planets. Transiting Uranus is going back and forth across the NJ Saturn, also in Aquarius. This Uranian influence has the effect of upsetting (Uranus) the government structures and traditional campaign rules (Saturn). Also transiting Saturn has been opposing the NJ Sun, leading to a political assault on NJ's leadership.
Last Wednesday transiting Venus in Scorpio was exactly squaring Pluto when the New Jersey Supreme Court declared by a 9-0 vote that Lautenberg could replace Torricelli. The issue now goes to the U.S. Supreme Court just as Venus turns retrograde. On November 5 Uranus turns direct while conjunct the NJ Saturn, leading to more surprises.
Sniper on the Loose
At 6:05 pm last Wednesday (October 2) a man was shot in a parking lot in Wheaton, Maryland, an event beginning a series of sniper shootings and putting the nation's capitol on edge. Police said all the victims were gunned down in broad daylight in public places. "They don't appear to be anyone's enemies, just random targets."
An event horoscope drawn up for the first shooting may shed some light on the case. Mars is the most prominent planet in this chart, as it is conjunct the Descendant. Mars here describes a public enemy, and placed in Virgo reflects the military training required to fell victims with a single shot. Mars is accompanied by a retrograde Mercury, and an eyewitness account indicates that two people were involved, a shooter and a driver. Mercury represents the driver.
The Sun in Libra is intercepted in the seventh house, signifying that a leader not involved in the actual murders is behind the scenes and directing the assaults. From this clue, the astrologer might conclude that the perpetrator is part of a network.
A comparison of this event chart with the September 11 terrorist attack shows close planetary connections, and therefore a possible strategic alliance. Mars, the significator of the sniper, forms an exact, to-the-minute dynamic aspect to the 9-11 Uranus in networking Aquarius. From this and other measurements*, the astrologer might conclude that the sniper and his friends are either part of Al Qaeda or sympathetic to their cause.
Nicole and Russell to Co-star
So after Meg Ryan separated from Dennis Quaid, she took up with Russell Crowe. But then Meg and Russell split when Nicole Kidman, who recently separated from her husband Tom Cruise, had a fling with Russell. Recently Nicole, who bought the rights to the movie In The Cut, hired Meg for the lead (no hard feelings?). Meanwhile, Russell and Nicole began reviewing scripts for a new film project…
At the center of these affairs is Nicole Kidman with her Sun in multi-tasking Gemini (June 20, 1967; Honolulu; time unknown). With her Moon in confidant and carefree Sagittarius, Nicole tends to take life as it comes, ready and willing to move on. However, at the moment, transiting Saturn is right on her Sun, giving her an ability to manage her business affairs, but also a push to get serious about her love life.
Russell Crowe, with his Sun, Mars and Jupiter all in Aries (April 7, 1964; Wellington, NZ; time unknown) is perfect for playing tough gladiator types. His Sun is closely linked to Neptune, giving him that radiant mystique that only the camera can capture, but also gives him more sensitivity and vulnerability than is normally attributed to the Aries warrior.
Russell's Venus in Gemini is naturally magnetized toward Gemini Nicole. Venus in Gemini is often troubled by divergent love interests, and this is especially true in Russel's case since his Venus squares Saturn in the emotional duality sign of Pisces. Russell has been in a long term, on-and-off relationship with an Australian photographer. Things should get interesting when Nicole and Russell go to Australia next year to make their next film.
* The 9-11 Pluto has two very close connections to the sniper attacks (progressed 9-11 Moon inconjunct Pluto, transit Jupiter trine Pluto). Also note that the Mars in the sniper event chart squares the U.S. Mars and is conjunct the U.S. Neptune. Transiting Uranus is simultaneously conjunct the U.S. Moon, creating a pervasive mood of high anxiety.
