Saturn to U.S. Neptune

As the stock markets pushed to new lows last week and political leaders
openly pondered the viability of free market capitalism, Democrats and
Republicans alike called for sweeping new business reforms to address
corporate fraud. Both President Bush and Vice President Cheney came under
intense pressure to explain their past financial activities in the oil
business, while Senators raced to overhaul corporate accounting and
governance laws.

From an astrological perspective, the wave of congressional enthusiasm can be
attributed to last week's Mars-Jupiter conjunction. Mars is action and when
combined with expansive Jupiter brings eagerness and passion. The
Mars-Jupiter conjunction happened to take place right on the U.S. Mercury,
leading to rare political cooperation. In the U.S. Scorpio Rising horoscope
Mercury rules the eighth house of corporate finances, taxes and accounting
procedures, which were the main areas of reform.

Simultaneously, and adding celestial momentum to these radical measures,
transiting Saturn was squaring the U.S. Neptune, the natural ruler of fraud,
oil, and drugs. Saturn represents authority and taking the practical measures
necessary to restore investor confidence. Transiting Saturn was exactly
square the U.S. Neptune last Wednesday, and corresponded to several major
developments relating to Neptune's symbolism.

Neptune is associated with the pharmaceutical industry. Last week Wyeth, the
leading manufacturer of Prempro, took a dive in the stock market following a
report that hormone pills are actually harmful to health. Another drug
company, Merck, hit its lowest level in four years after modifying a $12.4
billion accounting entry. Favorite drug supplier Johnson & Johnson also
tumbled, as the entire pharmaceutical sector fell into a steep decline.

Jupiter Challenges U.S. Power

On July 21 an important transit to the U.S. horoscope takes place, one that
will likely bring significant challenges to the U.S. government and its
vested interests: Jupiter will oppose the U.S. Pluto, the ruler of the
Scorpio Rising U.S. chart. Pluto here symbolizes American power, including
its military, corporate, and political clout. As Jupiter opposes this Pluto,
we can expect that the American system will somehow come under attack.

History provides insights into the importance of this transit which takes
place every twelve years. The last time Jupiter opposed the U.S. Pluto was on
August 6, 1990, the day that George Bush (the elder) proclaimed that Saddam
Hussein's invasion of Kuwait would not stand, and the beginning of the
Persian Gulf War. This is one area to watch for further developments as the
current Jupiter transit unfolds.

The previous cycle occurred in August 1978. The lead headlines at this time
were about Love Canal, an environmental scandal forcing scores of residents
to evacuate their homes built on toxic chemical waste dumps. The U.S. Pluto
is in the corporate sign of Capricorn, and reflects the unbridled power of
Big Business. And one cycle earlier, in 1967 anti-war demonstrations were
challenging LBJ's Vietnam War.

What makes this particular Jupiter transit particularly noteworthy is that
the Sun and Mercury join Jupiter on July 19 and 20 to reinforce the influence
of the opposition to Pluto. From the record, we might expect sudden
developments in Iraq, or escalating conditions against corporate malfeasance.
On the positive side, this astro-event may well mark the turning point in an
over-sold stock market.

Tom Hanks, The Road to Third Oscar

Hailed as "easily the best movie of the year, Road to Perdition opened last
weekend, with Hollywood a-buzzing about an unprecedented third Best Actor
Oscar for Tom Hanks. The perennial nice guy who played an astronaut in Apollo
13 and in three romantic comedies with Meg Ryan is now an Irish mafia hit
man, showing a depth and darkness only hinted at in previous movies.

Tom Hanks was born a family-oriented Cancer (July 9, 1956; 11:17 am;
Concordia, CA), with his Moon in dramatic Leo giving him radiant
self-confidence and a warm heart. Virgo Rising reflects the meticulous
attention and care he puts into crafting each role, a devotion that was
recognized with Best Actor Oscar for an attorney suffering from AIDS in
Philadelphia, and another for the simple-minded Forrest Gump.

With Venus, the natural ruler for actors and celebrities, conjunct his
Midheaven, Hanks' professional career as an actor is greatly enhanced. Venus
is in multi-talented Gemini, and describes how he can convincingly play a
variety of roles. Venus in Gemini is playful, charming, and entertaining, and
is well suited for romantic comedies.

In Hanks' case, his Venus-Midheaven conjunction happens to be exactly aligned
with the U.S. Mars. This blend is what director Steven Spielberg first
exploited when he starred Tom Hanks in the war epic Saving Private Ryan. With
his Venus on the U.S. Mars, Hanks can deftly portray American heroes or
anti-heroes. With transiting Saturn exactly conjunct this Venus on the day
Road to Perdition opened, Hanks status as a super-star is assured.
