"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."
Last week the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals outraged the nation by ruling
that the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional since the phrase "one
nation under God" violates the separation of church and state. But then the
Supreme Court ruled that public funding of religious schools through vouchers
do not violate the separation of church and state.
Many astrologers see a diminishing role for organized religion since we are
collectively entering the Age of Aquarius and leaving behind the Age of
Pisces. The shift from the last age to the next is certainly boosted by the
transits of Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius as simultaneously the traditional
concept of "God" is undergoing intense questioning.
Astrologer Ray Grasse shows how the spirit of the times can be read through
modern mythology, which is often symbolically portrayed in movies. One of the
most popular American stories, The Wizard of Oz, reflects where we can find
God in this New Age. In this fable Dorothy and her companions have completed
their tasks assigned to them by the great and powerful wizard, only to
discover that the wizard is no wizard at all, just an ordinary fellow.
Dorothy's disillusionment reflects our excessive dependence on external
images of God, and religious authority figures in general. As Glenda the Good
Witch suggests, the answer to your spiritual journey lies within you. In the
Age of Aquarius our collective relationship to the divine shifts away from
bearded patriarchs toward recognizing our role as co-creators in global
events.
WorldCom Lays off 17,000 Workers
Last week telecommunications giant WorldCom reported that an internal audit
discovered an astonishing $3.8 billion accounting error. The SEC immediately
filed fraud charges as the case is shaping up to be the biggest accounting
scam in U.S. history. Former WorldCom CEO Bernard Ebbers is being
investigated for a $366 million loan from the company while 17,000 workers
were laid off last Friday.
The WorldCom debacle is only the latest in a parade of accounting scandals
associated with the Saturn-Pluto opposition in the U.S. financial houses. The
incident was foreshadowed in last week's NewsScope since transiting Saturn is
conjunct the U.S. Mars in Gemini, which tests the nation's transportation and
communications systems. Saturn's task is to trim executive privilege, restore
investor confidence, and shore up workers' rights.
The WorldCom scandal can also be seen as a landmark in the emerging New Age.
Aquarius is naturally associated with networking systems, information, and
the power of the people when working en masse. Aquarius is democracy, but is
opposed by Leo, which is the power of the individual. As we collectively
enter the Age of Aquarius, we are also entering the Age of Leo since these
two act as a polarity.
Many of the most important geopolitical developments can be seen as finding
the balance between the collective and the individual. On August 1 Jupiter
enters Leo and will then oppose Neptune in Aquarius over the following two
months. Jupiter in Leo naturally strengthens monarchies, celebrities, and
CEOs. Neptune in Aquarius is looking for democratic alliances and networks,
peaceful co-existence, and especially harmony between the plutocracy and the
common people. At the moment Neptune is putting pressure on the extravagant
and fraudulent habits of CEOs.
Charles Harvey and the World Soul
The late astrologer Charles Harvey said, "No matter how unique, individual,
and independent we feel ourselves to be, the more we examine the relationship
between the charts of individuals and the charts of collectives such as
nations, organizations, and companies, the more apparent it becomes that we
are all inextricably bound and interwoven one with another." **
Charles Harvey was born with his Cancer Sun in the eleventh house of group
experiences and objectives (June 22, 1940; 8:16 am GMT; Surrey, England). The
eleventh house is naturally linked to the eleventh sign, Aquarius, and
carries similar meanings. Harvey's Aquarius Moon underscores his interest in
the collective.
Harvey's unique contributions to political astrology include a philosophical
perspective that he calls the World Soul. Individuals are "cells of
consciousness" in the larger entity, something Carl Jung termed the
collective unconscious. Pluto symbolizes the psychological power of the
collective, and in Harvey's horoscope Pluto is found in the twelfth house of
the unconscious, and is directly linked to his Aquarius Moon by opposition.
Uranus, the planet associated with astrology and Aquarius, is found in the
tenth house of career. Uranus squares his Leo Ascendant, giving him an
over-riding instinct to forge a very independent and personal path, even
while working for the collective. Harvey's insights as a professional
astrologer have helped lead the astrological community out of the fortune
telling business, and at the same time provide a compelling vision for the
global village.
