Moussaoui Will Represent Himself
Last Thursday a federal judge ruled that Zacarias Moussaoui, the alleged 20th
hijacker, was mentally competent and could defend himself. Moussaoui asserted
his innocence during his court appearance while claiming that his appointed
lawyers were conspiring with the U.S. government to have him executed.
Moussaoui was born a mentally active Gemini (May 30, 1968; 8:20 pm; St. Jean
de Luz, FR: 1E33 43N29*) with his Sun conjunct Mars, giving him a fighter's
spirit and determination to state his case. This Mars is further charged by
its dynamic square to Pluto, found in the ninth house of religion. With
Sagittarius Rising, and his ruling planet Jupiter also located in the ninth
house, Moussaoui's Islamic religion became a life shaping experience.
Individuals with hard aspects between the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo,
Sagittarius, and Pisces) must often deal with vexing mental dilemmas. Mars in
Gemini square Pluto tends to be fiercely argumentative, which in this case is
modified by Pluto's association with the 12th house of secrets. Moussaoui's
actions and words are influenced by this Pluto, making him capable of
sabotage, or as his lawyers say, prone to fantasies and delusions.
His Mercury in Cancer square Uranus subjects his mental state to radical and
sudden mood shifts. This Mercury was activated last year with the Summer
Solstice Solar Eclipse, and his Mars-Pluto square is right in line with the
transiting Saturn-Pluto dynamic, all of which is a powerful call to action.
Transiting Pluto will be opposing his natal Mars in September when the trial
begins, and we can be sure that he will be fighting hard for his survival.
Outer Planets Assault American Institutions
All four of the outer planets have been actively connected to the Scorpio
Rising U.S. horoscope over the past year, collectively leading to dismal
conditions. Last week alone witnessed the guilty verdict of the accounting
firm Arthur Andersen, the Catholic Bishops conference to deal with predator
priests, and ongoing problems with terrorists. Investor confidence remains
sluggish as the stock market reached lows not seen since last September.
Most astrology watchers are familiar with the powerful influence of the
Saturn-Pluto opposition, which in the U.S. chart takes place in the financial
houses (second and eighth). This planetary duo is the major stressor pointing
to a need to entirely restructure the way corporations do business.
Then transiting Neptune has been squaring the Scorpio Ascendant for over a
year now, and will continue in this area through the coming election in
November. Neptune here undermines confidence, brings fraud and scandals to
light, and corresponds to secret activities by potential terrorists. The
Enron debacle and the Catholic Church scandal are the most obvious
manifestations of this transit.
Transiting Uranus is passing through the U.S. fourth house of domestic
conditions and is associated with the crisis atmosphere surrounding the War
on Terrorism. Civil rights activists complain about the loss of personal
freedoms, but the historian who investigates the 84-year Uranus cycle will
note similar conditions prevailed in 1917 and 1918 during World War I. Watch
for cyber-terrorism, bio-terrorism, and other disruptive threats when
transiting Uranus is conjunct the U.S. Moon-Pallas conjunction from late
August through January 2003.
McCartney-Mills, A Marriage of Wounded Healers
Last Tuesday wedding bells tolled for Sir Paul McCartney and former model
Heather Mills at a 17th century castle near Northern Ireland. After the "rock
'n roll" ceremony, the couple was whisked away by helicopter to begin their
honeymoon on a private, tropical island.
Paul McCartney was born a Mercury-ruled Gemini (June 18, 1942; 2:00 pm;
Liverpool), and has Virgo Rising, which is also ruled by Mercury. His
Mercury, prominently located near the Midheaven, and dramatically enhanced by
a sextile to his Leo Moon, marks him as a professional writer. Since musical
Neptune is on his Ascendant, he writes songs. The wedding took place right
after the Solar Eclipse and Saturn formed a triple conjunction with
McCartney's Mercury.
Heather Mills was born a mission-oriented Capricorn with her Moon in
energetic Aries (January 12, 1968). Her life took a radically new direction
on August 8, 1993 as the epochal Uranus-Neptune conjunction took place right
on her Sun. Her leg was amputated following a car accident, and ever since
then she has been an advocate for holistic treatment for amputees.
Chiron, the natural indicator for wounding and holistic health, is the
strongest connection between their two charts. Her Chiron is in his seventh
house of partners and exactly square his Sun. They recognize and empathize
with each other's physical and psychological wounds.** Another important link
between their charts is Juno, the marriage asteroid. Their Junos are in the
exact same degree of Scorpio. McCartney's progressed Juno is now perfectly
squaring his natal Chiron, marking the ceremony as a marriage of wounded
healers.
