Legal Jousting Continues to Postpone Election Outcome
Florida, the nation, and the world were transfixed all last week as legal
wrangling produced no clear winner in the presidential election. Although
Bush held a slim lead by the time overseas ballots were counted, hand-counted
votes in predominantly democratic counties may be allowed pending a decision
by the Florida Supreme Court.
The overwhelming importance of these political developments is reflected in
all the outer planets' close links to the national horoscope. Transiting
Pluto is now forming a close connection (by the quincunx, or 150 degree
aspect) to the U.S. Sun, which in the Scorpio Rising horoscope is located in
the ninth house of the justice system. Transiting Neptune is moving into a
confusion-generating square to the Scorpio Ascendant over the next few
months.
Transiting Uranus is one of the major indicators, and the activating agent of
this quagmire. At the time of the election the planet of crisis was poised
right on the foundation of the chart, the fourth house cusp (or IC)*. The
84-year Uranus cycle has brought two previous transits to this point, and the
corresponding events provide some insight into the current situation.
Transiting Uranus was in the same zodiacal location during the 1916-1917
entrance of America into World War I when the nation was suddenly mobilized
for action. One cycle earlier, the first national convention to select a
Presidential nominee was held in 1832, as Andrew Jackson brought the
selection process out of Congress and closer to the people. Perhaps equally
significant, the Seminoles of Florida ceded their lands to the United States
on May 9, 1832.
Carnivore Archives All Web Communications
USA Today reported last week that Carnivore, the FBI's controversial email
snooping program, can retrieve all communications that pass through an ISP
(internet service provider). An FBI spokesman was quick to clarify that
although a large quantity of web communications can be scooped up, current
law and court orders restrict its use.
The origins of Carnivore are sketchy. Documents obtained by EPIC (Electronic
Privacy Information Center) under the Freedom of Information Act were largely
censored, but they show that the first program was conceived in February 1997
during a wave of innovative web technologies sponsored by the Jupiter-Uranus
conjunction in Aquarius. Following an investigative story in the Wall Street
Journal, the FBI finally demonstrated the system to reporters on July 21,
2000 as mysterious Neptune transited across that Jupiter-Uranus conjunction.
EPIC reported last week that in June the FBI tested Carnivore's ability to
store and archive everything, essentially contradicting it's proclaimed task
of filtering and pinpointing specific information. This test came under the
astrological influence of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Taurus, squaring
Uranus in Aquarius.
The outer planet configuration establishes a long-term battle of accumulate
and control (Taurus) versus personal freedom (Aquarius) through the medium of
information (aligned with the U.S. Mercury). This astrological equation was
underscored by the timing of the July 21 FBI demonstration when the lunar
north node and Mars were both conjunct the U.S. Mercury.
Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison Separate
On November 8 veteran actor Harrison Ford and screenwriter Melissa Mathison
announced they were separating. Their 17-year marriage was widely touted as a
rare bedrock of stability in the otherwise loose relationship patterns around
Hollywood.
Harrison Ford was born a family-oriented Cancer (July 13, 1942; 11:41 am;
Chicago), a position strengthened by the Moon's placement in Cancer along
with Mercury and Jupiter as well. The prominence of Cancer planets creates a
natural nesting instinct, and the desire for long-term security within a home
environment.
Uranus transiting through Aquarius over the past few years has triggered many
divorces, especially among the Pluto in Leo generation. While Uranus in this
challenging location most often creates anxiety, it produces actual divorce
when other astrological indicators strike at the same time. In Melissa
Mathison's case, transiting Uranus has been opposite her Pluto all year (she
was born June 3, 1950, time unknown). Factor in the life-changing transit of
Pluto which is exactly aligned with her Sun-Ceres-Saturn T-square,
transforming her role as a mother, partner, and professional.
Although Ford's Pluto is not now being hit by transiting Uranus, his Mars is.
Transiting Uranus opposite Ford's Mars symbolizes separation on several
levels of interpretation. The opposition aspect from an outer planet
indicates significant changes in relationships. Then, the restless, erratic,
impulsiveness of Mars-Uranus combinations often leads to separation. And
(often most difficult for beginning astrologers to recognize) Mars gains
definition by being the ruler of the seventh house of partnerships.
