Religion and Politics
When Joseph Lieberman made his first public appearance with Al Gore along the
campaign trail, he mentioned God twelve times in the first minute, and
frequently thereafter. Lieberman wears his Jewishness on his sleeve, and
represents a religious crescendo appearing in American politics. Bush and
Cheney, Gore and Lieberman, and the repentant Bill Clinton are freely and
loudly mixing their personal religious beliefs with their public persona.
Astrologically, this trend is symbolized by the Jupiter-Pluto opposition, the
main planetary configuration shaping the summer political season. Jupiter and
Pluto are in Gemini and Sagittarius respectively, the two signs that love to
talk and debate about moral values. This growing celestial weather pattern
climaxes on September 4 when Jupiter is exactly opposite Pluto.
If the Gore-Lieberman ticket prevails in November, the outlook for unbiased
Middle East negotiations looks dim. Lieberman (b. February 24, 1942;
Stamford, CT; 7:00 am) has several planets clustered in Taurus which happen
to align perfectly with Israel's Sun. Al Gore, born only six weeks before
Israel, has key alignments with Israel's horoscope as well, including his
personal Taurus planets.
In the immediate future the Jupiter-Pluto aspect is ushering in a new era of
religious righteousness in politics. A much publicized example of this
vibration occurred when California Congresswomen Sanchez was forced by DNC
officials to move her fundraiser away from the Playboy Mansion because it
projected the wrong image. Since the 2000 campaign establishes the nation's
leaders for the next four to eight years, this planetary signature takes on
an influence far surpassing the fleeting morality play.
Neptune Puts Pneumatic Tires Under Pressure
A flurry of apparently unrelated news events concerning tires was climaxed
last week when six million Ford Explorers were recalled to replace the
radials. Critics estimate that all 47 million of the Firestone SUV tires sold
may be in jeopardy of "tire tread separation or failure." Also last week
investigators announced that the disastrous Concorde crash was caused by a
tire blowout as it ran over metallic debris on the runway.
The political astrologer is alerted by the coincidence of tires, realizing
that an underlying astrological pattern is being activated by planetary
alignments. The pneumatic tire, an essential manufactured component of most
modern transportation vehicles, was first patented on December 10, 1845
within a year of when Neptune was first discovered. Pneumatic tires, inflated
air, and rubber are all ruled by Neptune.
Not surprisingly, the foundation horoscope for pneumatic tires now shows
strong developmental stress of natal Neptune by an exact square from the
progressed Sun. Resonating with this planetary combination, the transiting
Sun and Neptune were opposite each other at the time of the Concorde crash
(July 25, 2000; 4:44 pm; Paris), and hitting the Pneumatic Tire Venus in
Aquarius. Most of the passengers were participants in a tourist cruise,
accurately described by the pleasure-seeking Venus in the group-oriented sign
of Aquarius.

Marlene Dietrich once said about Loretta Young, "Every time she sins, she
builds a church. That's why there's so many Catholic churches in Hollywood."
The silver screen idol Ms. Young died last week of ovarian cancer following a
long career in the movies, television, and as a devoted sponsor of Catholic
charities.
Loretta Young was born an ambitious Capricorn (January 6, 1913; Salt Lake
City, UT; 3:30 pm), with the love goddess Venus the most prominent planet in
her horoscope. Venus is conjunct her career point, the Midheaven and makes a
multitude of aspects to heighten her powers of attraction.
The beneficial aspects include a sexually simmering trine to Pluto, and
alluring sextiles to Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter. Factor in a flighty Gemini
Ascendant, and no wonder this actress has been romantically linked to many
stars, including Spencer Tracy, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Tyrone Power, David
Niven, and Ricardo Montalban.
For Loretta Young, and so many sexually active people, religious upbringing
creates an overwhelming fear of eternal damnation. Young's Venus squares
critical Saturn in the twelfth house of shame and guilt. Venus-Saturn aspects
may be the most difficult planetary combination in any women's chart. One is
constantly being judged for beauty and graciousness, and from her own
psychological programming, on the basis of her sexual purity.
