ABOUT JUPITER

Planet Jupiter

Jupiter is the ruling planet of Sagittarius in the Ninth house. Jupiter represents optimism, generosity, philanthropy, luck, philosophy, and foreign cultures.

People with a strong Jupiter may be large in size, loud in voice, or simply command attention when they walk into a room.

Jupiter orbits around the sun almost every 12 years, so you can look at each 12-year segment in your life as a new way of expressing your philosophy in the world.

Jupiter coaches and encourages people to overcome obstacles to achieve their greatest desires. Jupiter is a loyal friend. Used negatively, Jupiter can be boastful and tends towards overdoing (overeat, overspend, etc.)

The location of Jupiter in your natal chart indicates the area of life where you can express expansive philosophy. In the ninth house, you may love to travel or pursue higher spiritual or educational goals. Jupiter governs the liver and diseases caused by excess.

ABOUT THE 9th HOUSE

Ninth House, Learning & Philosophy

The Ninth House represents the higher mind. It is associated with foreign travel, religion, higher education, certain areas of the legal system, and the social mores of society. More than anything, the ninth house calls you to open your mind to your highest spiritual truth to learn who you are, beyond society's labels.

In general, the ninth house represents your in-laws and is one of the places to look for grandchildren.

Because this house is naturally ruled by Sagittarius, it determines the level to which you express integrity and honesty, as well as your experiences with education. Gemini on the ninth house cusp may indicate someone who is constantly going back to college to get another degree. Aries in the 9th house may be compelled to preach to you about how things are, even if they're wrong!

Natal planets in the in the ninth house add flavor to the philosophical nature. Saturn in the ninth may indicate a conservative approach to religion and philosophy. Uranus in the ninth may indicate a person who leaves the family religion or works for philanthropic causes.

It's Our 10th Anniversary!

They say that once a business passes the 3-year mark, they're going to survive....This Christmas, Wandering Star is celebrating it's 10th Anniversary!

In 1996, I was studying Astronomy in the planetarium at Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico. I got the idea to make a necklace with the planets around me exactly as they were when I was born.

I couldn't figure out how to find the locations of the planets, until (this, of course, being Santa Fe, the New Age capital of the Southwest) someone pointed out that an astrology chart was a skymap of the planets and constellations (zodiac signs).

So, about this time 10 years ago, I was running around New Mexico looking for semi-precious gemstone beads that looked like the planets! I searched New Age stores, flea markets, and bead shops all over NM, because I wanted beads that were scientifically accurate as well as astrologically traditional.

When I found what I was looking for, I made one for myself (which I still wear), and then started making them for Christmas presents. Hey Chris, Barb, Meena, Bob, and Pat, do you still have yours?

As soon as the week after Christmas, other friends started asking me to make their charts into jewelry! By January 6, 1996, I'd gone to the Chamber of Commerce and registered Wandering Star as a business. I knew I was onto something!

Ten years later, Wandering Star is going strong and growing. Some of our milestones:

1996: Made our first website. Our first internet order came from North Carolina!
1997: Sold jewelry every weekend at Trader Jack's Flea Market in Santa Fe, NM
1998: Moved to Portland, OR
1999: Brought in our first beader, Mary, to help with orders
2000: Opened our first store, Wandering Star
2001: Merged with Forces of Nature, a co-op
2002: Starting selling wholesale - now dozens of shops around the world carry our designs
2003: Closed Forces of Nature to focus on Internet orders and travel to New Age Expos
2004: Brought in Kat to help with Customer Service; Trish, a second Beader; and Jamie, our Office Manager
2005: Moved to a new studio dedicated to Wandering Star, began national advertising in US Weekly, Teen People, and Men's Journal
2006: Look for our new website to celebrate our 10th Anniversary!

Congratulations to us!

Monthly Horoscopes for Everyone

What is Mercury Retrograde?

When an astrologer announces that a planet is turning retrograde, the next sound is usually a loud groan from the audience. In astrology, retrogrades are considered troublesome, similar to an upside-down card in a tarot reading.

A planet turning retrograde is an optical illusion that the planet is moving backwards. Because all the planets orbit at different rates, when they pass each other, it looks as though the planet is moving backwards across the sky. If you've ever been on a train when a faster train passes you going in the same direction, and you momentarily feel like you are moving backwards, you've experienced retrograde.

Approximately 3 times a year, Mercury goes into retrograde for a 3-week period. Expect your equipment to break, you'll have misunderstandings, and travel will be exasperating.

Mercury Retrograde, Nov 13 to Dec 3

Happy Thanksgiving, and what more "perfect" time for a Mercury Retrograde could there be (yes, I'm being sarcastic).

From November 13 to 26, Mercury, the planet of communication and short trips, is moving backwards in Sagittarius. According to astrology.com, "Mercury retro in Sagittarius brings intellectual confusion... Bold statements can be quite mistaken, and may need to be totally retracted. Travelling and circulating in various groups and in different places will create disorientation and misunderstandings can occur when foreign cultures are mixed. Trade negotiations can break down and ordering procedures, especially when international exchanges are made, can become bogged down. Be careful when communicating opinions and ideas, as comments tend to be very direct, sometimes to the point of what others consider tactless.

Art or politics can see problematic situations develop through misunderstanding of basic concepts, mainly due to poor explanation or lack of clarity. When travelling it will be easy to become distracted and so lose your way.

All areas of communication are affected. Methods and motivation for learning, communication and transportation are subject to difficulties under this aspect. It brings travel snafus and missed appointments of all kinds. Documents can go astray. Be sure to carry a diary and refer to it often."

From November 26 through December 3, the Mercury Retrograde moves back into Scorpio. Kindly, other aspects with Mercury won't add to the drama. During this time, get to the bottom of things, reveal underlying motives, and tell the whole truth leaving nothing out. Don't play mind games, and don't permit someone to get under your skin.

Learn Astrology: The South Node

What is a Node?

"Nodes" are the points where the Moon rises and sets.

The North Node is where the Moon hits the horizon when it climbs into the sky at night.

The South Node is the point on the horizon where the Moon sets.

Click here to read more about Nodes and other astrological elements.

North Node

The South Node, sometimes called the "Dragon's Tail," is the intersection point where the moon's orbit crosses the sun's path from North to South. The South Node is exactly 180 degrees away from the North Node.

It expresses your karma, or the lessons you need to learn from your past life. If you do not believe in past lives, you can consider this point to be lessons that you need to learn, or challenges to overcome, from childhood. The South Node also gives you hints as to talents that you brought into this life.

The South Node is a bit of a “double-edged” sword. On one hand, you have talents in the sign of the South Node. On the other, you need to use those talents to move to the sign of your North Node.

If your South Node is in Sagittarius, you may have spent many past lives developing wisdom while meditating in a mountain cave. In this life, you may not want to come in to the world from your peaceful mountain. However, you must step into the opposite sign Gemini North Node to do your work in this life. A Gemini North Node person would need to communicate all of that past life Sagittarius wisdom to the world during this lifetime.
