ABOUT VENUS

Planet Venus

Venus is the ruling planet of Taurus and Libra, and the 2nd and 7th houses. Venus was the Greek goddess of love and beauty, also representing the feminine and fertility.

Because it's the brightest object in the sky except for the Sun and Moon, Venus was known even in prehistoric times.

Venus' rotation is somewhat unusual in that it is both very slow (243 Earth days = 1 Venus day) and retrograde. In addition, the periods of Venus' rotation and of its orbit are synchronized such that it always presents the same face toward Earth when the two planets are at their closest approach. Whether this is a resonance effect or merely a coincidence is not known.

Venus rules love, relationships, cultural activities, art, luxury items, and beauty. Jewelry generally falls under her rulership. The importance of material possessions is associated with Venus.

The house placement of Venus in your chart indicates where you express beauty and peace. In the fourth house, you may decorate your house in a beautiful way. In the twelfth house, you may value the peace and harmony of your privacy, keeping your desires a secret. In the seventh house, marriage partnerships may be a high priority.

The natal placement of Venus provides hints as to what you value and how you go about manifesting your desires. In the sign Taurus, you may own items that are high in value yet sensible. In Leo, you may prefer highly passionate relationships, or clothing that is royally luxurious.

Physically, Venus governs the throat, kidneys, and diabetes.

ABOUT THE 7th HOUSE

Seventh House, relationships

The Seventh House, ruled by Libra, relates to relationships of both a business and personal nature. The Seventh House determines your experiences with marriage and partnership. Ironically, this area that represents your marriage also holds your open enemies.

On a spiritual growth level, the people with whom you share, whether in love, business, or war, are all here to help you open to a greater level of your spirit. An enemy can perhaps be viewed as a soul who has agreed to help you grow, much the same as a marriage partner.

People want different things in a marriage, and the sign on your Descendant (the name for the 7th house cusp) describes your desires. An Aries Descendant may like fiery passion in a marriage partner, while an Aquarius cusp may need someone who is as much a friend as a partner.

Planets in the seventh house greatly influence the needs of committed partnership. The Moon in the seventh house, for example, may show a strong need for emotional connection, or indicate that the desire for partnership may ebb and flow. If you have Saturn in the 7th house, you probably experience rocky relationships, and do well with a mature partner.

The main point of the seventh house is that you are being called to step away from purely self-serving needs in order to share and cooperate with others. The seventh house is what calls you outside yourself.

Monthly Horoscopes for Everyone

What is a Yod?

"A Yod occurs when two planets in sextile (60° apart) both form an inconjunct (a 150° angle) with a third planet. The third planet in the inconjunct represents the action point of the Yod; the mid point between the other two planets is the reaction point. The action point of the configuration is sometimes called the "finger of God," and the finger formed by the two inconjuncts points to a place in your chart likely to be very active. The Yod is believed by many astrologers to be a karmic configuration, and it suggests that there is a compulsive "debt" repayment associated with the area of the chart pointed out."

--from astrology numerology.com

So with 6 Yods in Libra, I can't help but wish for a visionary transformation in our society. The indictments of both leaders of Congress for corruption inspires me to trust that our legislation really can't continue the way it is. But with Mars going retrograde from October 1 to December 9 (which occurs once every 2 years), we can only look forward to accidents, arguments, delays, and conflict. Not to mention that the semiannual pair of lunar and solar eclipses on October 3 and 17 should bring some interesting twists.

Oh My Yod!

In September and October, there are several configurations in the sky called "Yods." Yods "point to" significant lessons and issues to be overcome.

From September 5 to October 7, the first Yod has Pluto in Sagittarius, sextile Jupiter in Libra, pointing at Mars in Taurus. Pluto in Sag indicates fundamental values, including traditions and religions, as a guiding philosophy. Jupiter in Libra provides a love for fairness and justice. Mars in Taurus wants us to stay the course. The combination confirms the US stance in world events, but indicates taking on more than you can handle, and opposition that may not want your help.

From September 23-26, another Yod features Mercury in Libra sextile Saturn in Leo, pointing at Uranus in Pisces. Mercury in Libra is all about diplomacy. Saturn in Leo indicates trouble with leadership and self-expression. Uranus in Pisces involves evolved ideals. Together, this Yod is about progressive thinking and a strong desire to do the right thing. Notice that after bungling Hurricane Katrina, Bush went out of his way to demonstrate how sensitive he is to New Orleans' needs with all those photo ops?

From September 24 - October 4, a third Yod appears with the Sun in Libra sextile Saturn in Leo, pointing at Uranus in Pisces. This would be a good time for leadership to look to intuitive, spiritual solutions to solve some of their troubles. Completely ignored during the Hurricane Rita media frenzy were the millions of Americans who protested our current foreign policy during the March on Washington and hundreds of local vigils against the war.

On October 2-5, a fourth Yod appears. Mercury in Libra sextile Pluto in Sagittarius pointing at Mars in Taurus. Added to the explanations of Pluto and Mars above, Mercury quincunx Pluto indicates lack of support, and sarcasm. Mercury q Mars literally points at misplaced diplomatic priorities. Quickly following from October 3 to October 6 is the Moon in Libra sextiles Saturn double quincunx Uranus. The optimist in me hopes that this lunar surge of emotional need will cause our leaders to declare an honest exit strategy. The alternative is an impulsive aggressive action.

Just when you though God had run out of fingers, one more Yod with Sun in Libra sextile Pluto in Sag both quincunx Mars shows up October 10 - 19. That's when the trial of Saddam Hussein begins. I can't even bring myself to predict what's going to happen.

Learn Astrology: Intercepted Houses and Zodiac Signs

Houses

Houses are the pie slices that astrologers use to interpret charts.

Start by noting the Ascendant, the horizon at dawn, 6am. Then, find the Midheaven by seeing how high in the sky the Sun gets that day (in the summer the sun reaches overhead; in the winter the sun doesn't go as high in the sky). Once you know those two points, divide the distance between them into 3 sections, and you've got your Houses!

The opposite Houses have the same degrees.

Read more about the Houses

The Zodiac signs are equally spaced around the horoscope, at 30 degrees each. Houses are calculated using the system on the left; some are narrow and some are wide. If the location of your birth is close to the equator, the houses will be close to 30 degrees each, and relatively equal in size. But the further you go towards the North or South pole, the more extreme they'll be in size.

For this reason, most of the time the house and sign cusps alternate, but if you live far from the equator you'll have zodiac signs and houses that are intercepted in your chart. An intercepted sign is when a big house contains the entire sign. An intercepted house is when the same zodiac sign falls on two narrow house cusps. In a chart like this, you will always have two opposite intercepted signs and two opposite intercepted houses.

Intercepted signs take on increased importance because they cover extra territory, and affect more areas of your life. Intercepted houses show us some of the ways we can get around the difficulties caused by our intercepted signs.

Cool Customer Quotes

Everyone knows that our jewelry has meaning, but did you realize just how much depth it has? Whether you wear a bracelet or a necklace, the Personalized Horoscope Jewelry are completely mathematically accurate maps of the universe as it was around you at the moment you were born.

But whether you're new to astrology or have been practicing professionally for 50 years, "translating" your natal chart to beads isn't easy!

Here's a question we received from a customer last month (let's hear it for Virgo precision!). I thought her question was probably one that many of you may have, so here it is, with my answer on the right:

"I just received my beautiful bracelet and astro report yesterday. Many thanks! I have a question about the silver beads, though. The card says:

"The pie slices around the inner wheel of your chart are the 12 Houses, facets of your life. Their degrees are written in the outermost circle and are marked by the Sterling Silver beads on the necklace. Start at the ascendant and count from silver to silver bead. The bold lines on the chart are marked with ribbed beads."

Wouldn't there be 12 silver beads on the bracelet denoting the 12 Houses? I've been studying my bracelet vs. the chart on and off all day and can't make heads nor tails of the house correlations. In fact, it appears the GOLD beads denote Houses 1-12 which would be accurate. (But the card says these denote signs.) As I try to read the silver beads, it would *appear* that Pluto is placed in the 5th house (as opposed to the 6th), which throws off the rest of the bracelet.

I'd appreciate you explaining the delineations as they correlate to my chart...or let me know if the bracelet is somehow incorrect.

Many thanks for your time and help!

Janet

Hi Janet,

On your bracelet each bead equals 15 degrees. The houses on your paper chart vary in size - some are close together and others far apart.  Notice that the silver beads aren’t equally spaced - you have intercepted houses in your chart, meaning that in two places your houses are in the same sign and in two places an entire zodiac sign fits inside one house.

Verify this by looking at the degrees in the outer wheel. If you look at the 2 silver beads bottom center right in your photo, that’s the fourth and fifth houses without any planets or cusps between them, so they’re right next to each other.  Same with the 10th & 11th houses at the top left.

The gold beads (Zodiac constellations) are equally spaced, with 30 degrees (2 beads) between each (or more if planets or houses fall near the same degree).

In the 12th house you can see it go Gold, degree, degree, Gold.  In the 6th house you have Gold, degree, Pluto, Gold. Those are the intercepted houses and signs.

Told you they were mathematically accurate!

Alicia :-)

And For Those of You Who Have Read This Far

Ever get the feeling you're being watched? The image depicts the so-called Helix Nebula, described by astronomers as "a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gases." At its center is a dying, Sun-like star which has ejected masses of dust and gas to form tentacle-like filaments stretching toward an outer rim composed of the same material. Our Sun itself may look like this in several billion years.
