Mercury is the Ruling Planet of the third house of Gemini. It is named after the Roman god Mercury, the god of commerce, travel and thievery. The planet probably received this name because it moves so quickly across the sky.
Mercury is associated with travel, intellect, logic and communication skills. Mercury represents quick trips, short classes, siblings, and transportation.
Mercury, in a natal chart, is very important for understanding how you communicate with others. Mercury in Pisces may speak in visionary, poetic, and even flowing musical terms. In Libra, Mercury may be expressed indecisively, or through balanced diplomatic words.
Most fascinating is that a day on Mercury is twice as long as its year! Mercury rotates extremely slowly but revolves around the Sun in slightly less than 88 days.
Approximately 3 times a year, Mercury goes into retrograde, a 3-week period when Mercury looks like it's going backwards across the sky. When this happens, expect your equipment to break, you'll have misunderstandings, and travel will be exasperating.

The Third House, ruled by Gemini, contains your siblings, education, communication, transportation, and self-expression. It helps you to open your mind to a variety of new ideas, then to mold those thoughts into a form that can be expressed in the world.
The third house represents ideas and metal acuity. It provides hints about how you speak and how you learn. Read the sign on the cusp of your third house to provide information about how you get your ideas across to the world. For example, a Cancer third house cusp may speak in words that express feelings and emotions, whereas a Sagittarius cusp may speak in broad, altruistic, and philosophical concepts.
The third house also represents communication and travel that happen quickly, such as a one-day workshop, writing a magazine article, or taking a short weekend trip.
The third house can also tell you about your brothers and sisters, since they're how you learned to communicate in the first place. It can also give you hints about the car you drive: a Leo third house cusp, for example, may want to drive a showy luxury car!

Thinking About Mercury
Mercury is quite literally in the spotlight this month. On May 28 it moves into Gemini, its natural rulership, where it's at its strongest and most influential.
Mercury gives you ideas. It's your brain whirring away. And it's communicating your thoughts to others. While in Gemini, you'll find yourself writing prolifically, and talking incessantly.
Fortunately, on June 3 Mercury will be conjunct the Sun, so in the weeks before and after you can trust that your ideas will be good ones. Even better, as Mercury and the Sun travel together, they'll be Trine to Neptune in Aquarius and Jupiter in Libra. If you're working on creating your ideal world, you'll find that your plans will also inspire the people around you!
From June 7-9, though, the Moon will join them, and then move on to align with Saturn. You'll spend a few days second-guessing everything you just felt so good about.
For the rest of this Gemini month after that, life will be on a fairly even keel. Keep processing and planning and analyzing. Enjoy the sunshine, and remember that living a life full of joy starts with you being happy about every small miracle throughout your day. |

Aspects

A challenging aspect between two planets can motivate you to accomplish great things in life, or you can hide under the covers. Harmonious aspects can help you to express life creatively; or, you can get lazy because the planets involved flow so easily that you decide to just kick back and do nothing. All astrology charts have a combination of challenging and harmonious aspects.

Squares
Planets at a 90-degree angle from each other are said to be Square. A square ties two or more planets together in such a way that they are challenged to work together.
Squares are considered one of the most difficult aspects in your horoscope, and this they often manifest as tension and stress between the planets involved. The planets are still doing what each does, but their endeavors may conflict or interfere.
Kelly Lee Phipps describes squares as two people walking down two hallways. They don't see anyone else around, and then all of a sudden they come around the corner and crash right into each other! Books and papers fly everywhere, and they have to stoop down, pick up the debris, and then laugh about it.
If you have squares in your chart, you probably find that life takes a little extra planning and effort. However, people who learn how to work with the difficult aspects of their chart often accomplish more than those who have charts filled with easy aspects. Signs that are square to each other are:
- Action oriented signs - Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn
- Persevering signs - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius
- Adaptable signs - Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
