Monthly Horoscope for Everyone

This month is characterized by a T-Square between the North and South Nodes (in Aries and Libra), Chiron in Capricorn, and Saturn in Cancer. You may find yourself struggling to reconcile your past with your future. Are you still trying to deal with something that happened to you in the past? Are you disappointed that you aren't where you hoped you'd be by now in your life?

What a perfect opportunity to make some New Year's Resolutions! Right around the New Year, Jupiter (luck and growth) is trine Uranus (change), so it's a good time to put some positive changes into place.

Mercury and Venus are traveling together through Sagittarius and Capricorn. In December express your love in unexpected ways, and in January you have a great opportunity to say the right thing to heal old wounds. On January 10, Chiron will also be conjunct the Sun and the Moon, and there are lots of trines and sextiles in the chart, so it's a good day to have difficult conversations.

Now, if you're going to take this on, here's a few words of wisdom to take into the conversation:

Human beings have an unfortunate tendency to identify with their struggles. As an example, if you were once abused, and the person who hurt you wants to apologize, do you have another way to cope with life instead of reacting to it through "being a victim/survivor"? We tend to subconsciously react to daily life through filters like, "If I'm nice to everyone, nothing like that will ever happen to me again." Or, "If I don't let anyone get close to me, then no one will hurt me like that again."

Unfortunately, that subconscious self-preservation also keeps us from standing up for ourselves when we should, or depriving ourselves from opportunities to live, love, and grow.

So, if you're going to initiate the process of bringing peace to incomplete relationships (the ones where you're bearing a grudge or still thinking about what happened), call on the North Node in Aries, Uranus in Pisces, Jupiter in Libra, and Neptune in Aquarius to build a new way of reacting and a new philosophy of how the world (your world) could be.

The Tenth HouseLearn Astrology:
The 10th House, Career

"Houses" are the 12 pie slices in an astrology chart that astrologers use to interpret horoscopes. They're the realms of life within which your personality traits play out. They're calculated based on the sun's highest position on any given day.

The Tenth House represents your public image and career. Capricorn rules this house, ensuring that you will find big business, government, and other administratively heavy organizations in this area of the chart. Politicians and Chief Executive Officers are associated with the tenth house.

The Second, Sixth, and Tenth Houses are related in that they represent different elements of your worklife. The 2nd house represents how you feel about material possessions, the 6th house represents your work and the services you provide (if you have Capricorn in the sixth, you probably work away like a busy little bee), and the tenth house indicates career.

The world sees you according to the sign on the tenth house cusp, which is also called the Midheaven. In esoteric, or spiritually focused, astrology, it is believed that the tenth house cusp indicates aspects that your soul incarnated to accomplish in this life.

The planets and zodiac signs you have in the tenth house influence how you are seen for your accomplishments and/or failures. Natal Mars in the tenth house may indicate strong ambition if well aspected in the chart. Jupiter in the tenth house may indicate a person who appears larger than life, or one who is known for coaching and encouraging those in her/his charge. Aquarius in the tenth house may be a person who prefers to work alone, or own his or her own business. Leo in the tenth house may be a person who prefers supervisory positions.

Cool Customer Quotes

"Thank you so much for the Kepler Signature necklace. Oh my goodness!!! This thing is gorgeous. I am so proud of it. I put it on immediately...well, after I showed my husband by spreading it onto the chart to show him. His comment was "No way!! That is cool." I am loving this so much, and thank you for the keychain and Sun Sign book. They are wonderful, too. I will probably be ordering another Kepler for my sister. I've got all the info and will log into the site and put in the choices and such. What a wonderful piece of art you create!

All the best,
Elizabeth H., Gray TN"

New Comet! In Sight and Outta Site!

A comet discovered earlier this year has now moved close enough to be visible without binoculars or telescopes by experienced observers under dark skies. It is expected to put on a modest show in December and January.

Comet Machholz will be at its closest to Earth Jan. 5-6, 2005, when it will be 32 million miles away. Officially named c/2004 Q2, it is not expected to produce the sort of spectacular display put on by comet Hale-Bopp in 1997 or the periodically stunning Halley's comet.

But people with dark rural skies and a good map should be able to find it on Moon-free nights now into January.

Backyard astronomers have been watching Machholz for months through telescopes. It was spotted by naked-eye observers for the first time about three weeks ago from the Southern Hemisphere, said Donald Machholz, who discovered the frozen chunk of rock and ice in August.

Comets are made of rocky material and icy mixtures of water and various other chemicals. As a comet approaches the Sun, the surface is heated and essentially boils off. Scientists call the process sublimation. The gas and dust creates a head, also called a coma, and sometimes a tail. Sunlight reflects off the material, making some comets visible from Earth.

Machholz is expected to reach magnitude 4.0, based on an early estimate. On this astronomers' scale, smaller numbers represent brighter objects. The dimmest things visible under perfectly dark skies are around magnitude 6.5. The brightest star, Sirius, is magnitude minus 1.42.

It will probably get brighter than the Andromeda Galaxy, a magnitude 3.4 object, the furthest object visible to the unaided human eye under dark skies.

City and suburban dwellers would likely not find it without optical aid. Binoculars or a small telescope might reveal the comet as more of a fuzzy patch, and if it develops a significant tail, that could be visible too.

Machholz, who has found nine other comets, suggests looking for his latest discovery when the Moon is out of the picture. The comet is low on the horizon now, where the atmosphere makes for poor viewing. By early January, the comet will be much higher in the sky, improving viewing conditions.
