Venus Withholding Pentagon Budget
The Pentagon's budget for fiscal 2008 has become a political football.
Last week, the largest Pentagon budget since 1946 was expected
to sail through the Senate, but was ensnared over the politics
of Iraq. Many Republican Senators are joining the Democrats over
the concept of withdrawing from Iraq, but the political tactics
of how to override a Bush veto have yet to be worked out.
In the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope, Mars is powerfully placed
in the eighth house of capitalism* and budgets. Mars here is conjunct
the first magnitude star Capella and the Part of Fortune, both
of which describe how American military contractors profit tremendously
during times of war. Mars symbolizes the military-industrial-complex,
which is now being bolstered by transiting Neptune's favorable
trine.
The Pentagon's horoscope (July 26, 1947; 12:15 pm; Washington D.C.)
reveals a financially solid agency, with a Moon-Jupiter conjunction
in the second house of money to secure its fortunes. Since Libra
is rising, Venus becomes the ruler of the chart, and is prominently
placed at the Midheaven. The Pentagon's Moon-Jupiter combination
trines Venus, significantly increasing the fiscal magnetism of
what has become the world's largest bureaucracy.
Venus turns retrograde on July 27, and remains so until September
8. This phase offers a window of opportunity to discuss and debate
exactly what the Pentagon is doing in Iraq. Venus, as the natural
ruler of money, allows Congress to withhold the purse strings until
a new Iraq strategy emerges. By the time Venus turns direct, a
decisive bipartisan effort in Congress should be underway on the
new plan.
Senator David Vitter's Hypocrisy
From the Reader Feedback Dept. comes the following request: "Could
you please do a blurb on Vitter's chart?" Two weeks after
Louisiana Senator David Vitter publicly apologized for using the
so-called D.C. Madam's escort service, he's still being widely
lambasted in the blogosphere for his hypocritical behavior. Although
Vitter has declined to resign, he was outspoken in demanding Bill
Clinton's resignation during the Monica Lewinski scandal.
David Vitter was born with his Sun in traditional Taurus (May 3,
1961; New Orleans, LA; time unknown), and only three days before
actor George Clooney. Their two charts share some of the same fundamental
dynamics, including Sun opposite fantasy-oriented Neptune in sexy
Scorpio. Clooney uses Neptune to play charismatic characters on
film, while Vitter used it to hide his subterranean lifestyle.
One key difference is found in their respective Mars placements:
Vitter has Mars in the domestic/patriotic sign of Cancer, while
Clooney's is in theatrical Leo. In both cases, Mars opposes Saturn,
and this polarity represents a major theme in both their lives - especially
in how they deal with authority. For Vitter, Mars-Saturn means
fighting for the sanctity of marriage and family.
Vitter and Clooney have Juno, the marriage asteroid, conjunct their
karmic South Node and opposite Pluto on the North Node. Hard Juno-Pluto
aspects must often deal with possessiveness, jealousy, and betrayal.
Clooney experienced a bitter divorce, and has sworn off marriage
ever since. Vitter's religious worldview forces him to stay within
a marriage that will undoubtedly be perpetually tainted with toxic
emotions. The holistic astrologer might fear for Vitter's health.
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
The marketing synergy of simultaneously releasing the final Harry
Potter book and the fifth Harry Potter film has created a magnificently
manic response. Harry Potter public readings, trivia contests,
and midnight magic parties added to the craze. The film, Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will likely rank in the top
twenty best-grossing films of all time, as did the first four.
An older and wiser Daniel Radcliffe (July 23, 1989; London; time
unknown) once again stars as Harry Potter. Over the last two years,
transiting Saturn has been in Leo, where it's challenged each of
Daniel's four Leo planets. Saturn here has made Daniel one of the
richest, most famous young men in the world, but has also pressured
him to step outside his most recognized role.
Last February, when transiting Saturn was conjunct his Mars, Daniel
appeared nude in the stage production of Equus. Saturn to Mars
tests one's courage, and he's commented on how scary that experience
was. For Harry Potter fans, this fifth film features the young
wizard's first nervous kiss, which was filmed under transiting
Saturn's first conjunction with his Mars, and is now being released
under Saturn's final transit to Mars.
Daniel Radcliffe will most likely be one of the few actors who
successfully transitions from child celebrity to adult celebrity.
His North Node at 25 degrees Aquarius is exactly conjunct the U.S.
Moon, assuring his continued popularity in this country. His Sun
closely quincunx (150º) to Uranus indicates he will continue to
break expectations by trying new roles and go against typecasting.
