Mitt Romney, A Mormon in the White House?
Although Mitt Romney's poll numbers fell flat in South Carolina
following last week's debate there, a poll released last Friday
in the first primary state of New Hampshire placed him first among
Republican voters with 35 percent. Romney's campaign also touted
his improvement in Iowa where he now ranks in a statistical tie
with McCain and Giuliani.
The former governor of Massachusetts was born with his Sun in the
faith-based sign of Pisces (March 12, 1947; Detroit, MI; time unknown),
where it forms a conjunction with Ceres, the parenting asteroid.
The Sun-Ceres conjunction in a man's chart generally forges a solid
patriarchal image, which Mitt internalized from his father (1968
presidential contender George Romney) and projects forward with
his four sons.
Romney has a very attractive Moon-Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio.
When the luminaries (Sun and Moon) combine harmoniously with the
benefics Jupiter and Ceres, the individual may be particularly
good with money. Romney's claim to fame centers on his budget successes
in Massachusetts and the 2002 Olympics, and he surprised many Republicans
by raking in some $23 million for his campaign in the first quarter.
Romney's Pallas (his Inner Strategist) at 24º Aquarius is well-placed
for his presidential ambitions, since it's conjunct the U.S. Moon
at 25º Aquarius. Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts on
November 5, 2002 when transiting Uranus was exactly conjunct his
Pallas; he launched his presidential campaign on February 19, 2007
when the transiting Sun was conjunct his Pallas. However, the one
degree orb (between his Pallas and the U.S. Moon) is significant,
and can only make him an also-ran.
Odyssey's Black Swan Treasure
Last Friday, the co-chairman of Odyssey Marine Explorations* announced
that his company had discovered and is mining what could be the
biggest shipwreck treasure in history. More than 500,000 silver
and gold coins are expected to fetch about $1,000 each from collectors,
making the haul from the 400-year-old sunken merchant ship worth
some $500 million. OMR dubbed their secretive project "Black
Swan".
OMR was incorporated on March 5, 1986 (12:00 pm; Tampa, FL) when
the Sun was in the sea-faring sign of Pisces. The greater and lesser
benefics - Jupiter and Venus - are also in watery Pisces,
which neatly describes where the company's treasures are. Since
the OMR's finds are beyond any nation's territorial waters, legal
jurisdiction is uncertain, a state of affairs shown by OMR's Mercury
in pioneering Aries squaring misty Neptune in the governmental
sign of Capricorn.
Mars in adventurous Sagittarius is conjunct Uranus, the planet
of technology, a combination that reflects OMR's development of
remotely operated rovers, side scan sonar, and computer software
that helps to locate and salvage promising shipwrecks. Saturn is
also found in Sagittarius where it squares Jupiter, a double message
that points to moral or ethical considerations. OMR has had to
negotiate with numerous national and international organizations
before claiming its prize.
Last week, transiting Jupiter was conjunct OMR's Mars when OMR's
chartered jet returned with hundreds of plastic containers brimming
with rare 17th century coins. On Friday, transiting Uranus was
exactly, to-the-minute, square OMR's Mars when the news of the
find was announced, and OMR's stock shot up 30 percent. The United
Nations estimates that some 3 million shipwrecks litter the ocean
floor, giving OMR plenty to do for the foreseeable future.
The Abduction of Madeleine McCann
Shortly after 9:00 pm on May 3, four-year-old Madeleine McCann
was taken from her bedroom as her parents, Doctors Gerry and Kate
McCann, dined at a restaurant only 50 yards away. The British family
was vacationing in Portugal, but now Gerry and Kate spend each
day praying for their daughter's safe return amidst a media frenzy.
British and Portuguese crime investigators have found nothing.
Madeleine was born on May 12, 2003 (Leicester, UK; time unknown)
with her Sun located at 21º Taurus. At the moment she disappeared,
transiting Neptune was at 21º Aquarius - exactly square her
Sun. At the same time, the transiting Sun in Taurus was exactly
square her natal Neptune, a doubled influence which reflects the
immense publicity (Sun) that would follow her mysterious disappearance
(Neptune).
In Evolutionary Astrology, the lunar nodes and the planets linked
to the nodes by aspect and rulership can be read for insights about
the life story. Hard aspects from the outer planets can bring some
harsh experiences, as in Madeleine's case: she was born with Uranus
(sudden crisis) square her lunar axis at 29º Taurus/Scorpio. At
the time she was taken, the Moon in Scorpio was conjunct her South
Node, as was her progressed Moon. The event chart** shows the Scorpio
Moon right on the Ascendant.
At first, detectives suggested that she'd just wandered off. However,
transiting Venus and Pluto were opposing each other, and aligned
with her Saturn, confirming a kidnapping. Eventually, the police
came around to that conclusion. Natally, Madeleine's Venus in bold
Aries forms a trine to Pluto, giving her a magnetism and charm
that transcend her age. As such, she has become the poster child
for innocence lost.
