The Horoscope of Political Islam
Astrologers have a good horoscope to track the religion of Islam,
which is set for Mohammad's flight from Mecca on July 16, 622 AD.
While this chart helps to describe basic Islamic traits and motivations - and
the date marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar - Islam's
political structure might be better traced to Mohammad's death
on June 8, 632 AD (traditionally set for noon) in Medina, Saudi
Arabia, which established a fight for succession.*
This horoscope for Political Islam features the Sun in dualistic
Gemini opposed by the Moon and Jupiter in religious Sagittarius.
The Sun is further pressured by squares to militant Mars in faith-oriented
Pisces and spiritual Neptune in duty-conscious Virgo. The Gemini
Sun - already prone to splits and divergences - represents
the political leadership of Islam, which in early times was split
into two factions, the Shia and Sunni.
This chart works in the real world, and a primary example can be
seen in the foundation of Baghdad as Islam's worldwide headquarters
on July 31, 762 (see NewsScope January
24, 2006 for details).
Comparing the two charts, we see that transiting Saturn was precisely
conjunct Political Islam's natal Pluto, while transiting Pluto
was also conjunct natal Saturn. On such powerful double transits
are empires built.
The American-led invasion of Iraq began on March 20, 2003 as transiting
Pluto was exactly opposite Political Islam's Gemini Sun. Since
then, the bombing of the Golden Dome on February 26, 2006 initiated
the current civil war between Sunni and Shia factions, as transiting
Pluto was exactly squaring natal Neptune. Both the Improvement
of security conditions and last week's confab in Baghdad between
the regional players offered some ray of hope, as transiting Pluto
was exactly conjunct natal Jupiter. However, Pluto remains in this
danger zone for two more years.
February 5, 2008: Super Tuesday
Last Thursday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill moving
California's presidential primary from July to February 5, 2008.
The nation's most populous state joins some 20 other states who will
also hold their primaries on February 5, making this Super Tuesday
exceptionally important in determining the next president.
From an astrological view, February 5 tends to be important during
primaries anyway, with the Sun in Aquarius opposing the U.S. Midheaven.
This election cycle, February 5 has become celestially illuminated
since the Sun is conjunct Chiron on this date, a combination which
helps decipher the main message of the day: candidates who promote
the healing power of Chiron will do best.
Naturally, some candidates will be mortally wounded - in the
political sense - and be forced to drop out immediately afterwards.
Transiting Saturn at 6º Virgo hits power points in the horoscopes
of all six of the current top-tier candidates, another indication
that February 5 is a critical date. The New Moon two days later (conjunct
Chiron) infers an ending and new beginning for many candidates.
The fly in the ointment is retrograde Mercury. Information about
candidates may be contradictory, false and misleading reports may
be issued, and new developments may change voters' opinions. With
Mercury retrograde, it seems likely that Super Tuesday won't leave
us with a winner, but that more primaries and information will be
needed. Mercury turns direct on February 18 while exactly squaring
the U.S. Ascendant, marking the next significant turning point.
Heather Mills, the Wounded Dance Partner
Animal rights activist and former model Heather Mills thinks she
can tango, and so do the producers of the popular TV show Dancing
with the Stars. Mills, who is in the midst of a contentious divorce
from Paul McCartney, says her decision to compete is not a publicity
stunt, and she assures everyone that her prosthetic leg will not
come flying off.
Heather Mills was born with her Sun in ambitious Capricorn (January
12, 1968; Aldershot, UK; time unknown) where it's empowered by
a trine to resourceful Pluto. In dancing as well as marriage, the
asteroid Juno plays a major role. Heather's Juno in Scorpio is
blessed by a sextile to prosperous Jupiter, but challenged by a
quincunx (150º) to Saturn in feisty Aries, and together, these
three form a fateful Yod configuration.
The exact degree of her Juno (7º Scorpio) is also highly significant,
since it's exactly conjunct McCartney's Juno (see NewsScope May
22, 2006 for more on this connection). Americans tend to find celebrities
with Juno at 7-9º Scorpio particularly fascinating, since it's
conjunct the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. My files are full of celebrities
with this Juno placement, including former Dancing contestant Sarah
McLachlan.
Other big stars with Juno here include Simon Cowell, Patricia Arquette,
Justin Timberlake, Paris Hilton, Ashley Judd, Beyonce Knowles,
and Billy Bob Thornton. In each case, we want to know more about
their partnerships. In Heather Mills' progressed chart, her Juno
has advanced to 13º Scorpio, a position now being squared by transiting
Chiron as she makes her debut on the dance floor. Chiron to Juno
makes her the wounded dance partner.
