Chiron Advises Bush to Surge
Flying in the face of the bipartisan ISG report and overwhelming
public opinion, President Bush is now considering military options
that would increase U.S. troop levels in Iraq by 20,000 or more.
The new strategy is being called a "surge", since it's
meant to temporarily stabilize Baghdad while Iraq's political leaders
negotiate an end to the horrific violence between the Sunnis and
Shiites.
As reported here last week, from the astrological perspective,
Chiron is informing Bush about his options. Transiting Chiron is
heading into a conjunction with his Descendant, the beginning of
his seventh house of "others". This influential aspect
becomes exact on December 22, during which time Bush is fielding
advice from his military planners.
Why is Chiron associated with the military? In personal charts
Chiron is most popularly known as the "wounded healer",
but in the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope, Chiron is found in the
sixth house of military service. Being in assertive Aries underscores
the military vibe. Also, the Pentagon's horoscope (July 26, 1947;
12:15 pm; Washington DC) features Chiron in the warrior sign of
Scorpio, and in a close square to the Sun.
Chiron still correlates to the concept of wounding, but when in
Aries, Scorpio, or in aspect to Mars, the fear of appearing weak
or cowardly is compensated by expressing super-confidence. In American
political astrology, Chiron equates to the gung-ho, can-do attitude
found in the armed forces. In Bush's horoscope, Chiron's next contact
is the quincunx to his Mars, exact on January 20. Under this influence,
we can expect that he'll tell Americans to "not lose their
nerve".
Ban Ki-Moon, Push-over or Warrior?
Pledging to be a "harmonizer and bridge-builder", South
Korean diplomat Ban Ki-Moon was sworn in last week as the new U.N.
Secretary General, and will officially take over on January 1. Ban's
personality exemplifies the Asian virtues of modesty and humility,
but he noted that he will be promoting a "dynamic and courageous" United
Nations, and not one that is "passive and fearful".
Ban Ki-Moon was born with his Sun in Gemini and his Moon in Pisces
(June 13, 1944; Eumseong, Korea; time unknown), a combination that
emphasizes the mutable qualities of flexibility and adaptability.
With his Sun conjunct the peacemaker Venus on one side, and Pallas,
the people-pleasing asteroid, on the other, the astrologer might
wonder if he has the leadership qualities to guide the world government.
Fortunately, Ban has a Mars-Pluto conjunction in Leo, which gives
him the warrior's fighting spirit when he has a heroic mission to
follow. Still, with six planets in Gemini, the new U.N. leader will
be hard-pressed to talk less and act more. Departing U.S. ambassador
John Bolton approved his selection, with the expressed hope that
the U.N. leader will be more of a Secretary and less of a General.
Ban was first touted to replace Kofi Annan a year ago, as transiting
Pluto opposed his Sun. He will get his first big test in late March
2007 when transiting Pluto turns retrograde while opposing his Saturn.
At that time, he will likely be challenged by a major crisis that
threatens his personal authority and ability to govern. And this
process will occur repeatedly over the next two years, as Pluto hovers
over this degree area.
Jennifer Hudson, Show Stopper
Newsweek said Jennifer Hudson singing "And I Am Telling You" would "raise
goose bumps across the land". Oprah said her performance in
Dreamgirls was like a religious experience, while the New York
Daily News called it "one of the most heartfelt cries of pain
ever written for a musical". Hudson has come a long way since
being voted off American Idol.
Jennifer Hudson was born with a Sun-Ceres conjunction in Virgo
(September 12, 1981; Chicago; time unknown), a planetary duo that
reflects the importance of her maternal line (Ceres) in nurturing
her individual talent (Sun). Jennifer says she inherited her voice
from her grandmother, who was also instrumental in her early training - especially
in the local church choir and getting her involved in talent contests.
Jennifer's Sun-Ceres squares Neptune and she most likely has her
Moon in Neptune's sign, Pisces. These placements get her in touch
with transcendent feelings in a process that verges on channeling
spiritual forces. On the down side, her prominent Neptune and Pisces
Moon can generate feelings of low self-esteem and victimization,
as her defeat at American Idol created. At the time (April 21,
2004), transiting Pluto was exactly conjunct her Neptune.
Jennifer returned to the limelight in November 2005 when she was
chosen to play the part of Effie White in Dreamgirls. At the time,
her progressed Mars was trine natal Neptune, and she was experiencing
the unique "making-of-a-star" progression of Venus conjunct
Uranus. Also, transiting Saturn had entered Leo where it aligned
with her Mars, as the director helped her locate her Inner Diva.
Jennifer Hudson has arrived.
