Democrats Confident
With a week
left before the mid-term election, Democrats are feeling increasingly
confident of major gains in Congress. As previously forecast
in this column (April 10 and September 4, 2006), Nancy Pelosi
(D-Calif) will likely become the first woman Speaker-of-the-House.
And looking ahead to the 2008 presidential contest, Barack
Obama - the junior Senator from Illinois - is generating
a lot of excitement. A peek into the Democratic Party horoscope*
tells us more.
The Democratic Party horoscope (May 13, 1792; noon; Philadelphia, PA) features
a Venus-Saturn conjunction in the ninth house (just like the GOP - see
NewsScope October 10, 2006), which gives it the moral certainty of being right.
Unlike the GOP's Saturn, the DP (Democratic Party) Saturn is now being favorably
enhanced by trines from transiting Saturn and Pluto, leading to an imminent assumption
of power and authority.
Like all successful Democrats, Nancy Pelosi (March 26, 1940; Baltimore, MD; time
unknown) has strong connections to the DP horoscope. Her four planets in Taurus
align with the DP's three planets in Taurus, and underscore her talent as a vigorous
fundraiser. Her Mars conjoins the DP Mercury, while her Mercury opposes the DP
Mars. This double interchange energizes (Mars) her role as Speaker (Mercury).
The excitement surrounding Barack Obama (August 4, 1961; Honolulu, HI; time unknown)
can be seen in the Uranian links. His Leo Sun conjoins the DP Uranus, so that
he personifies the more revolutionary, progressive elements of the nation's liberal
party. Similarly, his Uranus squares the DP Taurus Sun, which will shake up the
traditional base. And then, since this Uranus is exactly aligned with the U.S.
Moon, this candidate can electrify popular sentiment.
Top Five Astro-Events
for November
1. The U.S.
Moon receives multiple hits this month (from Jupiter's square
on November 3, Pluto's sextile on November 18, and progressed
Mercury's conjunction on November 25). Americans now have a
unique window to express their opinions and emotional concerns,
especially on security issues. The energized Aquarius Moon
also elevates women in business and politics.
2. The U.S. Mars is activated by an octile (45º) from the progressed Moon
on November 6. Factor in transiting Mars's conjunction with the U.S. Scorpio
Ascendant on November 4, and you get the celestial push to wage non-stop attack
ads. Violence - even terrorist events - may mar the end of
the campaign season.
3. Mercury eclipses the Sun while squaring Neptune on November 8, the day after
the election. Since this alignment also hits the U.S. Midheaven, one might expect
a number of voter snafus to complicate election results. The eclipsing may also
indicate the passing of a famous author, playwright, or other literary celebrity.
4. Uranus turns direct on November 20, reversing the tide in numerous geopolitical
sectors. Also, the New Moon on November 20 is conjunct Jupiter, making this an
optimistic time frame, with new ideas and technologies available for rapid growth
and the beginning of exciting new trends.
5. Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 23, marking the beginning of a year-long
journey through the sign of religion, philosophy, and law. Jupiter is strongly
placed here, and may bring luck and opportunities wherever Sagittarius is found
in the natal horoscope. Those with natal planets in Sagittarius may look forward
to expanding their geographical and social horizons.
Missouri in
the Cross Hairs
This week's
top celebrity is the state of Missouri. Last week, the "Show-Me" state
entered the national consciousness when the St. Louis Cardinals
gave the Detroit Tigers a thumping in the World Series. As
the games proceeded, a political ad aired featuring Michael
J. Fox, who was promoting stem-cell research. The promos achieved
national attention when Fox was mocked by Rush Limbaugh.
Missouri entered the union on August 10, 1821 (noon; Jefferson City) when an
epochal Uranus-Neptune conjunction squared Pluto. The concurrent socio-political
changes fostered by such a planetary arrangement included the delicate balancing
of free and slave states leading into the Civil War, and Missouri as the jumping
off point for adventurers heading west. Missouri became the nexus between North
and South, and East and West.
Mars in Gemini reflects Missouri as a transportation hub, and a state with a
keen competitive edge, since Mars opposes Uranus-Neptune and squares Pluto, creating
a dynamic T-Square. Last month's Solar Eclipse at 29º Virgo activated this
spectacular complex. By then, Washington strategists had realized that Missouri
was one of three swing states (with Virginia and Tennessee) critical to holding
the U.S. Senate, and had targeted the state with millions of campaign dollars.
Missouri's Sun at 17º Leo is currently being opposed by transiting Neptune,
giving the state an unusual aura of uncertainty, but also hope of glory and victory
(as experienced by the Cards). On election day, a retrograde Mercury squares
this axis, further complicating the situation with misplaced or lost ballots,
last minute changes, and the likelihood of extremely close counts. Keep your
eyes on Missouri.
