The GOP's Gay

Ever since Congressman
Mark Foley (R-FL) resigned after sending sexually explicit
email to a male page, gay Republicans in Washington have come
under a siege of suspicion. Gay men have long held key staff
positions in the GOP, due largely to the Republicans' adherence
to the family values agenda. The so-called "Pink Elephant" faction
has remained underground, but this status quo is now being
upset.
The GOP's horoscope is set for their organizational convention on July 6, 1854**
(Noon, Jackson, Michigan). This chart features Mars in the secretive twelfth
house, which can be characterized as the men meeting behind closed doors to construct
political strategies. In the current political climate, Mars here is a clear
symbol for the hidden gay culture, which suddenly came out of the closet when
hit by the September 22 Solar Eclipse.
The GOP's family values agenda is represented by the prominent Sun in family-oriented
Cancer, and is underscored by the close quincunx to the care-taking asteroid
Ceres. However, Ceres is in tolerant Aquarius and square Uranus, a combination
that regularly presents the GOP with challenging lifestyle issues. The Moon in
Scorpio tends to be highly polarized, and tends to frame issues as battles between
Good and Evil.
Saturn in the horoscope represents the GOP's institutional framework and the
political machinery that wins elections. Saturn is found in the ninth house of
religion and moral certainty, but is currently under attack from transiting Uranus.
Uranus turns direct in mid-November while forming an exact square to the GOP
Saturn. This indicates a potentially disastrous referendum on Bush's Iraq policy,
as well as the current emergence of the inconvenient Pink Elephants.

the recent flurry of school shootings. "I have found it
extremely discouraging to see these men who are in mental anguish
take their hurt out on innocent children, specifically little
girls," wrote one correspondent. "What part of this
week astrologically made these men snap and carry out these
gruesome actions?"
In my view, a number of planetary alignments can account for these incidents,
with the most calamitous being transiting Pluto and the lunar node axis squaring
each other. Pluto in stressful aspect to the lunar nodes often coincides with
traumatic events involving disaster or violence, and as this aspect draws closer
to exact, one can expect an increase in their number and intensity.
Then, the planet Mercury is directly associated with youth. In the U.S. horoscope,
Mercury is found at 24º15' Cancer. On October 2* - the day of the
Amish school tragedy - transiting Pluto was at 24º15' Sagittarius,
where it formed a precise quincunx to the U.S. Mercury. At the same time, the
Mark Foley scandal was breaking, which also involved the abusive use of power
(Pluto) over teens (Mercury).
According to astrologer Judy Johns, the gunman, Charles Carl Roberts, was born
on December 7, 1973*, when a tight Mars-Uranus opposition was squaring Venus.
This configuration can describe sexual tensions that, when exacerbated by challenging
early family relationships (suggested by Saturn in Cancer on his South Node),
can lead to pedophilia. Note that transiting Mars opposed his Chiron on October
2, as his wounded soul (Chiron) burst out in violence.

ABC's new hit Ugly
Betty, starring the young Latina actress America Ferrera,
is breaking the mold of what we've come to expect in prime
time television. Ugly Betty has no superstars to carry
the ratings burden. Nor is it a crime show or a reality show;
it centers on the mis-adventures of a homely underdog in
a society crazed by standards of beauty.
America Ferrera was born with her trail-blazing Aries Sun opposite Pluto (April
18, 1984; Los Angeles; time unknown), a combination that must regularly deal
with intense fixations and deep psychological issues. At its best, this aspect
can bring healing abilities, an ability to fascinate, and a desire for social
reform. The asteroid known as "America" is located at 1º Aquarius,
where it forms a close square to her Sun-Pluto axis.
Ms. Ferrera's Venus is in forthright Aries, and is modified by an exact conjunction
with Ceres, giving her beauty (she's actually quite attractive) a kind of maternal
kindness. Her Venus is enhanced by a trine to Uranus, adding a delightful quirkiness
and spontaneous humor. Her abundance of enthusiasm can be seen in the square
between Venus and Jupiter.
Most importantly, Ferrera's Venus forms a quincunx to critical Saturn. Women
with Venus-Saturn combinations are always aware of how well they do or don't
fulfill standards of beauty. In an interview for her award-winning role in the
independent film Real Women Have Curves, she commented on how much attention
is placed on looks: "It overshadows more important things in life, like
loving who you are and finding yourself on the inside."
