Pluto Demoted, Ceres Promoted

Last Thursday, a cabal of astronomers voted to change Pluto's status as
a planet, and in the process created a hullabaloo. Many astronomers
who didn't vote are writing petitions and making plans about how to
reverse the decision that transformed Pluto into a "dwarf planet". At
the same time, Ceres was promoted to the dwarf planet class, since this
celestial object dominates the asteroid belt.

While the elevation of Ceres went largely unnoticed, the stunning
demotion of Pluto infuriated many astrologers, and awakened a public
reaction tilting toward indignity and outrage. However, many
astronomers and some astrologers think the IAU decision was the right
one. Ceres* and Pluto share a remarkable history, with both being
hailed as the long-awaited discovery of Planet X during their hey-day -
1801 and 1930 respectively.

Like Pluto, Ceres was considered to be a planet for many decades, until
advances in astronomy revealed that she was only one of many objects
in her neighborhood. In ancient mythology, Pluto features strongly in
Ceres' myth. Everyone knows that Pluto is a major archetype, so he's not
going away. Maybe it's time to add Ceres to the charts, and see what
she's doing there?

Top Five Astro-Events for September

1. Pluto turns direct on September 4, and over the coming month forms
a quincunx (150º) with the U.S. Mercury. This Pluto-Mercury aspect
intensifies all political, business, and military communications. As the
November election heats up, expect all kinds of media manipulation.
Political factions turn to emotionally-charged issues; watch for
red herrings.

2. Full Moon September 7 (2:41 pm EDT) follows the Sun opposite
Uranus only two days earlier. This high-voltage astro-event represents
an emotional climax in international and domestic events, with rapid
developments around the world's hotspots. September 4-11 marks a
particularly dangerous interval for terrorist attacks, airline crashes, and
disasters at sea.

3 Transiting Uranus forms an octile (45º) to the U.S. Pluto on
September 10. Uranus, the Awakener, may put the U.S. on red alert, as
the fifth anniversary of 9/11 brings genuine potential for renewed
terrorist attacks. Uranus to the nation's ruling planet ushers in a phase
of heightened excitement, bringing unexpected and surprising events.

4. Sun enters Libra on September 23 (12:03 am EDT). Also known as
the Autumn Ingress, a chart drawn for this moment in Washington DC
sets the tone for the next three months. This horoscope features Uranus
at the Midheaven and Mars conjunct the U.S. Mars/Pluto midpoint, a
likely reference to national security issues and the ongoing terrorist
threat.

5. Jupiter squares Neptune September 24 and is a central feature of the
Autumn Ingress. This combination increases the role of religion in
geopolitical affairs, with noted leaders gaining an unusual amount of
influence in current events. The square reflects the ongoing tension
between religious organizations (Jupiter in Scorpio) and secular
democracies (Neptune in Aquarius).

Marilyn Monroe Stages a Comeback, Part 2

Adrian Finkelstein's recently published book, Marilyn Monroe
Returns, makes the astonishing claim that Canadian singer Sherrie Lea
Laird is the reincarnation of Marilyn Monroe. In the book, the author
convincingly details the many remarkable parallels between their
lives, and in the process, confirms the validity of reincarnation itself.
But how do their horoscopes compare?

Sherrie Lea was born (July 11, 1963; 9:30 am; Edinburgh, Scotland**)
eleven months after Marilyn Monroe died, giving her Sun in Cancer
and Moon in Pisces. With these luminaries trine to Neptune in Scorpio,
Sherrie Lea has a Water Grand Trine, a configuration often associated
with alcohol or drug addiction. Sherrie Lea admits to this chronic
problem, which was shared by Marilyn Monroe who also has a Water
Grand Trine.

Marilyn's horoscope was presented here two weeks ago, and the observant
reader will note the many precise alignments between their charts.
For example, Sherrie Lea's Mars is exactly opposite Marilyn's Mars,
and Sherrie Lea's Part of Fortune is exactly conjunct Marilyn's Venus.
In addition, they have several close Saturn-Neptune interchanges, and
mutual Sun-Pluto aspects.

Finkelstein prefers to look at the similarities between the Lunar Nodes
to validate reincarnation. Vedic astrologers and esoteric western
astrologers also refer to the Lunar Nodes when describing past life
influences. Marilyn's Pluto and North Node are conjunct, while Sherrie Lea's
Sun and North Node are conjunct, and all four are found together in the
middle of Cancer. It's as if Marilyn's death (Pluto) gave rise to Sherrie
Lea's personal identity (Sun).
