Saturn-Neptune
and War Weariness Cosmos and Psyche,
Part 2
With a clear majority of Americans now believing that the invasion
of Iraq was a mistake, President Bush began a series of public
addresses meant to shore up his policy. Speaking largely to friendly
audiences, he criticized Iraqi factions for not coming together
to form a unity government, but admitted that U.S. troops will
likely remain in Iraq past his presidency.
Astrologically, the contrast
between Bush's determination
to "achieve victory" and
the quagmire of Iraq is
reflected in the outer
planet opposition of Saturn
and Neptune. As described
in Richard Tarnas's groundbreaking
book, Cosmos and Psyche,
Saturn-Neptune aspects
frequently correspond to
the later stages of war
when disillusionment, exhaustion,
and low morale lead to
a crisis of confidence.
The Vietnam War was the
most recent example. Between
1971 and 1972 Saturn opposed
Neptune, by which time
most Americans were fed
up with Nixon's "secret" strategy.
In 1944-45 the D-Day invasion
became bogged down, especially
during the infamous Battle
of the Bulge, when Saturn
and Neptune squared each
other. The depressing trench
warfare during World War
I corresponded to a Saturn-Neptune
conjunction in 1917-1918.
The American Civil War
(Saturn opposite Neptune,
1861-1864), and the Korean
War (Saturn conjunct Neptune,
1952-54) are two more examples
cited by Tarnas. The Saturn-Neptune
aspects don't indicate
whether victory will ultimately
be achieved or not, but
the pattern is evident.
Bush is now at his lowest
rating in public approval,
and as this Saturn-Neptune
cycle becomes stronger
in 2006, the astrologer
might expect these numbers
to fall even further.
Top Five Astro-Events for April
1. Saturn turns direct
(April 5) - a good time to initiate long-range plans, put creative
projects into form, and take responsibility for one's talents
and limitations. In geopolitics, leaders assume authority with
the assurance of a divine mandate. Saturn is in the U.S. ninth
house, indicting practical changes in foreign policy.
2. Mars opposite Pluto
(April 8) - creates a political
and military atmosphere
of extreme confrontation,
and is in effect from April
1st through mid-month,
but is especially potent
and explosive from 4/05-08.
The dangerous intensity
of this aspect may also
create an awareness of
potential devastation that
brings enemies to the bargaining
table.
3. Full Moon on Apr 13
(12:39 EDT) - takes place
at 23º36' in the Aries-Libra
polarity, and features
the me-first, I-know-best
attitude versus the willingness
to compromise for peace.
This Full Moon hits vital
midpoints in the U.S. horoscope
(Moon/Mars, Ceres/Uranus),
and indicates troublesome
developments in the military,
especially in Iraq. Contrarily,
it may point to enemy factions
coming together.
4. Transiting Uranus trines
the U.S. Sun (April 17)
- brings plenty of ceremony
to the White House. Important
international events are
shaping up, since simultaneously
transiting Jupiter squares
the U.S. Midheaven. Watch
for historical decisions,
meetings, and turning points
in politics, science, and
business. Concurrent Jupiter
and Uranus astro-events
can bring sudden success.
5. Ceres conjunct Neptune
(April 28) -effective from
mid-April through May 1.
Watch for the passing of
favorite Americans, severe
weather events, and other
developments that bring
a sense of loss and grief.
On the plus side, Ceres-Neptune
favors the fine arts: develop
your own talent in design,
dance, art, and music,
and watch for spectacular
staged events, such as
American Idol.
Barron William Trump Enters the World
For
those who aren't counting, Donald Trump's third wife, Melania,
gave birth to his fifth child last Monday. Trump spent the weekend
in Florida where he hosted an Elton John concert, but then rushed
back to New York for the unexpectedly early delivery. Commenting
to MSNBC, the billionaire said "I continue to stay young,
right? I produce children, I stay young."
Barron William Trump was born
eight hours before the vernal
equinox (March 20, 2006; 5:00
am; New York, NY), when Mars
in Gemini was angular. This
restless Mars resides in the
fourth house of real estate,
and is the ruler of his second
house of money, indicating
an inherited interest in his
father's business. However,
as a child, this placement
points to plenty of temper
tantrums, especially during
the "terrible twos."
Mars squares a Mercury-Uranus
conjunction in the first house,
a volatile combination that
can lead to accidents and a
penchant for taking dangerous
risks. Under control (later
in life), this combination
points to success in a variety
of endeavors. Two celebrities
share a similar Mars-Mercury-Uranus
dynamic: real estate billionaire
Kirk Kerkorian (June 6, 1917)
and Pope Benedict (April 16,
1927; 4:15 am; Markl, Germany).
In the meantime, he may have
some early health issues (asthma,
allergies, sensitivity to environmental
pollutants and toxins) that
need resolving, stemming from
the hyper-sensitive Pisces
placements, and Saturn opposite
a Ceres-Chiron conjunction.
While his Mars in Gemini yearns
to breathe free, the Saturn-Ceres
polarity is over-protective,
and even suffocating. An afflicted
Saturn in the sixth house of
health eventually finds fulfillment
through satisfying work.
