Enceladus, Saturn's Brightest Gem
Saturn's brightest moon, Enceladus, suddenly became a celestial
object of intense interest last week when astronomers announced
that large amounts of water crystals are spewing into space from
the tiny moon's southern pole. Most intriguingly, the conjectured
watery underworld of Enceladus may harbor primitive life forms,
and therefore is certain to become a primary target of future
space exploration.
William Herschel discovered
Enceladus on August 28,
1789 (11:40 pm*; Slough,
UK), and a horoscope set
for this moment describes
this moon's immense potential.
Pisces at the Midheaven
(MC) describes the fascination
and mystery of Enceladus.
Venus precisely inconjunct
the MC describes the glittery,
Venusian surface. The Midheaven's
ruling planet, Neptune,
is favorably conjunct the
Part of Fortune, revealing
the underlying significance
of this discovery.
With Cancer Rising, the
Moon becomes the ruler
of this chart. It's found
at 22º Sagittarius,
the sign of exploration.
On August 25, 1981 Voyager
2 was the first spacecraft
to notice some of Enceladus's
intriguing anomalies. At
the time, transiting Neptune
was exactly conjunct the
discovery chart's Moon.
Last week's announcement
was based on Cassini's
July 14, 2005 fly-by, when
transiting Pluto was precisely
conjunct the discovery
chart's Moon.
Jupiter's position is exceptionally
important, since it's the
planet associated with
exploration and new opportunities.
Jupiter at 16º Leo
happens to sit right on
the U.S. Midheaven, indicating
that a space mission to
Enceladus is a worthy goal,
and would expand the nation's
horizons in an honorable
way. Also last week, progressed
Venus was exactly (orb
0º00') conjunct Saturn,
pointing to the practical
realities (NASA's reduced
budget) that may impede
any immediate plans.
Milosevic Found Dead
Former Yugoslavian president,
Slobodan Milosevic, was found dead in his prison cell, putting
an abrupt end to the U.N. tribunal at The Hague where he was
being charged with war crimes and genocide. In recent weeks,
Milosevic complained about his declining health, and suffered
from high blood pressure and a heart condition. He apparently
died of natural causes, though both of his parents committed
suicide.
Milosevic was born with
his Sun in proud Leo (August
20, 1941; 10:00 pm; Pozarevac,
Serbia), and conjunct the
first magnitude star Regulus,
which helped launch him
to a prominent leadership
role. With his Sun squaring
a Saturn-Uranus conjunction,
Milosevic easily turned
to a more autocratic style
of governance. The Sun
trine Mars in Aries added
confidence, determination,
and a readiness to take
risks.
Milosevic's fourth house,
describing his psychological
foundations and relations
with his parents, is tenanted
by a Moon-Pluto-Chiron
triple conjunction. The
Leo Moon is much afflicted
by the Chiron-Pluto vibe,
and Milosevic had some
deeply wounding experiences
regarding his ethnic and
personal tribe (Moon).
His family history has
raised some questions regarding
Milosevic's sudden demise,
and the possibility of
suicide.
His lifeless body was found
Saturday morning (March
11), as transiting Saturn
was exactly conjunct his
natal Pluto. Saturn had
been nearing his Pluto
over the last few weeks
as he complained of bad
health. Transiting Venus
and Ceres opposed his Pluto
the night before, dramatically
increasing the pressure
from Saturn. At the same
time, transiting Mars and
Uranus were squaring each
other, an anxiety-producing
vibration. Since Leo rules
the heart, a heart attack**
seems the most likely cause.
Teri Hatcher's Molestation Shocker
Desperate
Houswives star Teri Hatcher revealed that she was sexually molested
by her uncle when she was a child. The full story came out in Vanity
Fair last week, even though Teri was the key witness in 2002. She
declined to tell her story then, fearing that the tabloids would
say she was trying to resuscitate her career. Now Hollywood is
cheering her on.
Teri Hatcher was born with
her Sun in broad-minded Sagittarius
(December 8, 1964; Sunnyvale,
CA; time unknown), a sign generally
known for spontaneous speech
and truth-telling. In Teri's
case, her Sun squares a powerful
Mars-Uranus-Pluto conjunction
in Virgo, a dynamic configuration
which dramatically tempers
her spirit with deep power
struggles. In a woman's chart,
this can infer victimization
by domineering male figures.
In traditional astrology, her
Venus is said to be poorly
placed in Scorpio, perhaps
due to its tendency to be obsessed
with sex. In today's world,
this is not seen as a fault,
though if one is plagued by
memories of sexual abuse, Venus
here can lead to chronic confusion
and unfulfilled personal relationships.
Still, Venus is conjunct Neptune,
giving her plenty of charm,
beauty, and eternal romanticism.
At the moment, transiting Jupiter
is conjunct her Venus, while
transiting Neptune is squaring
it. Jupiter brings plenty of
celebrity and fame, while Neptune
offers sympathy and support.
These outer planet hits to
her Venus are raising her profile,
and encouraging her to seize
her own power (Sun square Pluto). "I'm
a woman who carries around
all these layers of fear and
vulnerability", she said. "I'm
trying to be my powerful me."
* This time is rectified,
and is based on several assumptions.
First, the historical record
indicates the night of August
28, 1789, which points to before
midnight but after the Moon
set, around 10:40 pm. Then,
from the fly-bys noted here,
the 22º Sagittarius Moon
should be prominent, indicating
Cancer Rising, and a discovery
time somewhere between 11:22
and 11:59 pm.
** A case can be made for
suicide, with transiting
Sun and retrograde Mercury
in 12th house of self-undoing,
square transiting Pluto.
These aligned with his natal
Ceres-Neptune square (a life-draining
force), a combination further
activated by his progressed
Moon.
