Harriet Miers, Pit Bull in Size 6 Shoes

Conservative intellectuals were miffed at President Bush's pick for the Supreme Court. Harriet Miers didn't seem qualified enough, considering her lack of judicial background and her uncertain Evangelical Christianity. Bush in essence said "Trust me," since she has been his personal legal counsel for 20 years. But conservatives have heard this refrain before, most recently from the elder Bush's disappointing choice of Judge David Souter.

Harriet Miers was born with her Leo Sun conjunct Pluto (August 10, 1945; Dallas, TX; time unknown), giving her a strong, creative personality, and a fascination with political power. The Sun-Pluto personality is frequently tested over loyalty and betrayal issues, but since Miers' Sun-Pluto has supportive sextiles and no major afflictions, she has become famous for her unwavering devotion to the President.

Her Mars is placed in clever, sharp-tongued Gemini, where it's intellectually sparked by a conjunction with Uranus. Her Gemini Mars also squares Mercury, which is a double influence, giving her an argumentative frame of mind. Lawyers thrive and prosper on this kind of mental edginess, but it can appear to be excessively angry or combative.

Fortunately for Miers, her Mars trines Pallas, the political asteroid. Pallas is sometimes known as the "people-pleaser" since it bestows great diplomatic charms. The current widespread judgment over her qualifications can be seen in transiting Saturn's conjunction with her Pluto, which will be exact on October 16. If she survives that celestial hurdle, transiting Uranus then trines her Venus, which will likely bring success during the Senate confirmation hearings.

Patrick Fitzgerald, Special Prosecutor

As detailed last week, two outer planets (Jupiter and Chiron) are hitting the U.S. Pluto, which is the nation's ruling planet when considering the Scorpio Rising horoscope. This implies seismic shifts in Washington politics, as Karl Rove prepares for his fourth appearance before the Grand Jury. Astrologically, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald seems poised to make an historic indictment.

Patrick Fitzgerald was born on the Winter Solstice in 1960 (December 22, Brooklyn, NY; time unknown). This high profile lawyer who indicted Osama bin Laden in 1998, is said to be brilliant – something that often goes along with Mercury trine Uranus and a slew of planets and asteroids in intellectual Aquarius. Throughout 2005, Fitzgerald's Mercury has been intensified by transiting Pluto's conjunction, a combination renowned for its relentless pursuit of hidden facts.

Also, transiting Uranus is opposing Fitzgerald's Pluto, and will continue to do so well after October 28, by which time he must decide whether or not to prosecute. The showdown between these two mighty planets points to a confrontation between opposing factions. Since President Bush's Mars is located at the precise point of Fitzgerald's Pluto, Bush or his loyalists may be under legal attack.

October 14 looks like a big day, since transiting Jupiter (the natural ruler of legal proceedings) will be exactly squaring the U.S. Pluto then. If Rove testifies on October 14, transiting Mars will be opposing his Juno, representing a direct challenge (Mars) to previous testimony about the outed CIA wife (Juno; see NewsScope July 18, 2005). Then, Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 26, by which time we should know Fitzgerald's specific plans.

Tyra Banks, Top Venus

Last week "The Tyra Banks Show" moved up in the key female 18-49 demographic, while "The Martha Stewart Show" slipped. No doubt "Tyra" was helped when the supermodel – who also runs UPN's "America's Next Top Model" – took a breast sonogram on live TV to prove that she hasn't had implants. She also confronted a porn star who was going by the name Tyra Banxxx.

This sexual openness is standard operating procedure for the Sagittarian (December 4, 1973; 7:13 pm; Inglewood, CA), who has become a major force in the beauty and fashion industry. With her Moon in assertive Aries and located in her tenth house of status and career, Tyra has a strong drive to become successful. This ambitious push is supported by the Moon's many aspects to other planets.

Venus is always a prominent player in a model's horoscope, and in Tyra's case her Venus is found in inhibited, controlled Capricorn. Her Venus is in the seventh house of "others", so she naturally has taken on a mentor role for upcoming models and young women in general. The duty-bound, conforming tendencies of a Capricorn Venus are shattered by the square to Uranus.

Tyra's Venus at 27º Capricorn is exactly conjunct the U.S. Pluto, so that she has a powerful connection with American women. Transiting Chiron just turned direct on her Venus as transiting Jupiter squares it, activating her ability to personify a national need around the Venusian archetype. She expressed it this way: "I would like them to look at this show as their friend, and to feel as if this is a sisterhood."
