International Crisis over Iran's Nuclear Intentions

Last week ambassadors from Britain, France, and Germany – along with the tacit approval of the Bush administration – offered Iran nuclear reactors and fuel if it would abandon its suspected nuclear weapons program. A senior Iranian official pronounced the proposal "dead on arrival", and now Europeans are warning that the world is facing a major international crisis.

Iran's horoscope is set for April 1, 1979 (3:00 pm; Tehran), and has several natal configurations that indicate a desire for military and geopolitical power. The fiery Aries Sun trine the Leo Ascendant is conditioned to be a leader in the Islamic region, However, with the Sun's opposition to Pluto, this leadership role is destined to be severely challenged by powerful adversaries.

As described in NewsScope on May 2, 2005, this chart also reflects the nationalistic fervor over secretly developing nuclear weapons. The primary indicator here is the natal Mars in Pisces square Neptune, a doubled message that infers the religious element (Pisces, Neptune) in the national military (Mars). Transiting Pluto has been, and will continue to be activating this dynamic for several years. The current crisis began with the recent landslide election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as Iran's progressed Moon opposed natal Uranus.

As befits the nature of Uranus, the new President is associated with the conservative revolution, and the strengthening of the Islamic clergy. With transiting Neptune right on the Descendant, we can expect continual evasiveness in international relations. Watch for an escalating diplomatic confrontation to reach a climatic turning point around September 13 when transiting Uranus opposes Iran's Saturn.

Baidu, the Asian Google

Shares of China's largest internet search engine company, Baidu, soared 350 percent when it debuted on the Nasdaq market last Friday. Financial observers attributed the frenzied interest in Baidu to Google's 2.6 percent ownership of the Beijing-based company, and speculation over China's booming economy. China is now the number two internet market with about 100 million users, but it hasn't yet developed effective payment channels.

Baidu began trading at 11:40 am, according to NewsScope correspondent Henry Weingarten (BIDU: August 5, 2005; NYC). This first trade chart emphasizes the speculative nature of the stock. A triple conjunction of the Sun, Mercury, and the Moon is found in proud Leo and opposes Neptune, the planet of hyper-hopes and wishes. However, the Leo planets form supportive trines to Pluto and sextiles to Jupiter, both of which favor rapid and sustainable growth.

Spectacular developments take place when planets hit the exact same degree as the Lunar Node axis. BIDU's North Node is positioned at 16º Aries, where it's also favorably trine the Sun, Mercury, and the Moon. More significantly, BIDU's Venus, Neptune, and Ceres are all located at 16º of their respective signs, where they form exact connections to the Aries North Node.

BIDU's debut was further empowered by its natal planets' alignment with China's national horoscope (October 1, 1949; 3:15 pm; Beijing). Among them is the asteroid Pallas, which is specifically associated with the internet. Natally, BIDU is blessed with a Pallas-Jupiter conjunction, which in turn is closely aligned with China's Mercury-Neptune conjunction. Also, BIDU's Ascendant is right on China's Pallas, all of which makes BIDU a major portal into China's cyberspace.

Jessica Simpson's Venus-Saturn Complex

The biggest film release of the week, The Dukes of Hazzard, opened to dismal reviews, continuing a downward trend for Hollywood blockbusters. Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson, who plays the sexy Daisy Duke, fended off tabloid reports that her marriage with Nick Lachey was over. Nick* himself denied being jealous of his wife's success, and said "everything is wonderful."

Jessica Simpson's Venus is placed in witty Gemini (July 10, 1980; Waco, TX; time unknown) where it's powerfully amplified by a network of aspects to other planets. A Venus so prominently placed makes her a Venusian icon, as she projects beauty, love, and animal magnetism. However, not all is peaches and cream with her Venus, since it squares Saturn in critical Virgo.

Venus-Saturn aspects in a starlet's chart give plenty of ambition to make it to the top. One habitually feels judged for all the Venusian values, which can lead to high pressure and anxiety, but for some, success. Challenging Venus-Saturn aspects can also make committed partnerships especially difficult, with the legal bond and social obligation restraining the desire to break away or find someone more compatible.

Behavior patterns associated with Venus-Saturn aspects tend to be inherited. Last week Jessica's father said in an interview, "If fighting is a sign of divorce, then we're all going to get divorced. My wife and I have been married 27 years. We've been on the edge of divorce for 26 of them." Currently, transiting Pluto is squaring Jessica's Saturn, testing her willingness to adhere to the family history.
