Bob Woodward's Anonymous Source

One of the great political mysteries of the 20th century was resolved last week when Vanity Fair revealed the identity of "Deep Throat". In the early 1970s the number two man at the FBI, Mark Felt, decided to become a secret informer to Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward by providing him with critical leads, which eventually led to the resignation of President Nixon.

Bob Woodward was born with detail-oriented Virgo Rising (March 26, 1943; 6:35 pm; Geneva, IL), and with Neptune, the natural ruler of scandals, right on his Ascendant. Woodward's career was established with his front-page Watergate stories. Mercury opposes Neptune, a combination that thrives on intrigue and secrets, but leaves open the question of whether his stories were genuine or based on misinformation.

Mark Felt was born with his Sun in the fiery sign of Leo (August 17, 1913; Twin Falls, ID; time unknown), which relates well with Woodward's Aries Sun. Felt's Mars in Gemini forms a harmonious trine to Woodward's Mars in Aquarius, allowing them to work together as a team. They have mutual Mercury-Pluto aspects, underscoring the information-based secrecy of their interactions, but also an element of suspicion or mistrust.

An esoteric or karmic tie is shown by Felt's Sun conjunct Woodward's North Node. The Sun to North Node is generally considered very favorable, as the two help each other reach the Higher Self. Woodward's Mercury (the ruler of his chart) conjunct Felt's North Node, repeats this theme. Although these men may not be friends, they have mutually grown or personally evolved through their shared experiences, as has the nation.

France Rejects EU Constitution

In the wake of France's referendum rejecting the EU constitution, French and German leaders held a crisis summit to reaffirm their desire to keep the ratification process alive. Political observers saw French voters as fearing an invasion of Turkish immigrants, and other threats to their 35-hour work week. Meanwhile, Italian ministers announced plans to abandon the Euro to go back using their Lira.

France's modern incarnation began on October 6, 1958 (6:30 pm; Paris), giving the nation the Sun and Venus in the diplomatic, partnership-oriented sign of Libra. France has four planets in the sixth house of workers (plus three of the four major asteroids). This heavy emphasis reflects France's keen interest in protecting its labor force with lucrative pension plans, long vacations, and generous unemployment benefits.

Saturn is strongly placed in the ninth house of legal, moral, and foreign affairs, since it forms an exact trine to the Aries Ascendant. This gives France the projected image of being a respected, authoritative player in international affairs, and a leader in promoting the European Union. However, the Moon forms a challenging aspect to Saturn (150º inconjunction), so that the people (Moon) and the government (Saturn) are often at odds.

The Cancer Moon describes an exceptionally nationalistic population, with its placement in the fourth house of patriotism and domestic affairs. Over the last month as the referendum loomed, transiting Saturn formed a conjunction with France's Moon, and also a challenging hit to France's Saturn, testing this uneasy link between the French people and their regional allies. Also, the Solar Eclipse on April 9 was exactly aligned with France's Ascendant, foreshadowing the momentous shift in European affairs.

Lindsay Lohan and the Paparazzi

Last Monday, teen idol Lindsay Lohan made a sudden U-turn to shake a photographer, and report her troubles to a police vehicle she spotted going the other way. The photographer rammed into her vehicle, which according to Lohan, was done intentionally. The "Mean Girls" star received some minor injuries, but the incident demonstrated the absurd lengths paparazzi will go to catch celebrities on film.

Lindsay Lohan was born with her Venus, the planet of love and beauty, in regal Leo (July 2, 1986; New York City; time unknown). This placement bestows plenty of self-confidence and pride, and loves to be placed on a pedestal to be admired by others. Her Venus is given an aura of excitement and star quality with an exact trine to electrifying Uranus, and tremendous sex appeal with another close aspect to Mars.

In most cases, the Sun in Cancer and Moon in Taurus combination leads to a comfortable life with a strong conservative streak. Lindsay has certainly found comfort with her many film successes, but she has a wild streak, reflected astrologically by the Jupiter-Uranus square. This aspect seeks originality and freedom of expression. Since it's tied into her Venus, it also bestows a keen fashion sense.

On the day of the crash, transiting Mars was conjunct her Jupiter and squaring her Uranus. Mars is a relatively fast-moving transit, but when it enters Lindsay's Jupiter-Uranus zone about every six months, she can expect a little excitement in her life. Mars triggered an underlying major astro-event: transiting Uranus exactly opposite her progressed Venus, a stressful pairing focusing on her celebrity status.
