"Habemus Papam"
On April 18 the conclave of 117 Cardinals convenes to elect the
next pope. Among the most influential Americans participating
in the process is Cardinal Justin Rigali, who may introduce the
next pope to his colleagues in the same way that the Polish-American
Cardinal John Krol is credited for the lobbying campaign that
made his friend Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II.
Justin Rigali was born
(April 19, 1935; Los Angeles,
CA; time unknown) with
his Aries Sun closely conjunct
Uranus in traditional Taurus,
a combination which found
expression in promoting
conservative Catholicism.
His Sun and Mercury square
Pluto, giving him a desire
to be around power, which
he has accomplished by
spending many years in
Rome as a close confidant
and travel companion of
John Paul II.
Although most observers
dismiss the possibility
of an American pope, the
lunar eclipse on April
24 shows the persuasive
influence of Americans
during the deliberations.
The Lunar Eclipse takes
place at 6:08 am* in Washington
D.C. and happens to fall
right on the U.S. Scorpio
Ascendant. In addition,
Mars is perfectly conjunct
the U.S. Moon, while Pluto
is exactly quincunx (150º)
the U.S. Mercury.
Each and every one of these
transits happens to make
strong connections to Rigali's
horoscope, suggesting that
he is being very active
behind the scenes. Rigali's
Mars is in the partnership
sign of Libra, and around
the Lunar eclipse transiting
Jupiter is conjunct his
Mars. Mars in Libra excels
at promoting others, so
that he may already have
a good idea of who is meant
when the announcement comes: "Habemus
papam".
Paul Wolfowitz, President of the World Bank
Paul Wolfowitz is probably best known for his neoconservative
ideology. As a military strategist, he dismissed the traditional "containment" policy
of potentially aggressive nations in favor of "pre-emption",
an idea that Bush adopted against Iraq. Recently, Bush nominated
him to head the World Bank, a post which he will assume on June
1 where his new responsibilities include ending global poverty.
Wolfowitz was born on the
Winter Solstice (December
22, 1943; Brooklyn, NY;
time unknown) near the
end of World War II when
U.S. military strategists
were feverishly preparing
for D-Day. The immense
logistics in that invasion
plan can be seen in Wolfowitz's
horoscope, with a Mars-Uranus
conjunction in mobile Gemini,
sextile to resourceful
Pluto. Also, Saturn in
Gemini is right on the
U.S. Mars.
Naturally, Wolfowitz carries
with him as a psychological
imprint the excitement
and boldness of that pre-launch
phase. He's driven toward
radical action on a large
scale. As he was nominated,
transiting Uranus in Pisces
was squaring his Mars-Uranus
pairing. This stressful
link registered as immediate
shock and surprise from
many quarters. Transiting
Uranus moves on, but returns
in November 2005 while
exactly squaring his Mars-Uranus.
This promises to be a volatile,
confrontational time for
the new World Bank President.
Simultaneously, transiting
Pluto opposes his Saturn
and transiting Saturn is
conjunct his Pluto. This
double Saturn-Pluto message
indicates that a radical
transformation of the World
Bank is on the drawing
board, a deep restructuring
of bureaucratic procedures
and international policies.
The world's one billion
people on the edge of starvation
can only hope.
Rumors about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
British
and American tabloids have been having a field day reporting rumors
that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are having an affair**. Did Pitt
and Jolie spend Easter weekend together holed up in a hotel? Was
their affair, begun during the filming of "Mr. And Mrs. Smith",
the reason that Pitt broke up with Jennifer Aniston? Pitt's spokeswoman
sent out firm denials last week.
Brad Pitt has a conflicted
horoscope (December 18, 1963;
6:31 am; Shawnee, OK), with
his Sun and Ascendant in adventurous,
free-spirited Sagittarius competing
with four planets in disciplined
Capricorn. Pitt's Venus (by
secondary progression) is currently
in a powerful opposition to
his Pluto, a combination that
frequently finds expression
in sexual betrayal, as a passion
and fascination with another
overcome any sense of propriety.
Angelina Jolie (June 4, 1975;
9:09 am; Los Angeles) thrives
on this kind of sexual tension,
with her Moon-Mars opposite
Pluto natally. Her Venus square
Uranus loves the fireworks
of sex and passion, but avoids
the commitment. The strongest
connection between their charts
is his Mars exactly squaring
her Mars, a celestial battle
which coincidentally is best
described in the plot of "Mr.
and Mrs. Smith".
They want to kill each other,
but also want to make love
with each other. Over the Easter
weekend the Sun and Venus were
traveling together in Aries,
which brings a scintillating,
romantic vibe. This Sun-Venus
happened to align with their
Mars-Mars square, indicating
a momentary, enjoyable weekend
together is probably correct.
Of course it won't last: transiting
Saturn opposing Pitt's Venus
squelches anything longer than
a fling.
* The Ascendant for this moment
happens to be 28º Aries,
which is the exact location
of Rigali's Sun.
