Neptune Inspires Freedom Speech
President Bush's Second inaugural address used the word "freedom" 27
times and the word "liberty" 15 times, but not once
did it mention Iraq. While Bush's supporters called "the
freedom speech" a bold vision for America's mission in the
world, his detractors decried the disconnect between the current
horror in Iraq and the laughing, dancing Fat Cats at the inauguration
balls.
Astrologically, Bush's
speech can be seen as kicking
off a major Neptune transit.
Neptune in now in Aquarius,
the sign associated with
freedom and liberty, and
is rapidly heading for
the U.S. fourth house cusp,
the foundation of the national
horoscope. Neptune enters
the fourth house in March,
and over the next year
remains within one degree
of this vital point.
In political astrology,
the fourth house is associated
with domestic affairs,
patriotism, and national
roots. Neptune here colors
the domestic vibe with
an idealistic aura, which
Bush called "the march
of freedom" across
the global village. Neptune
here inspires transpersonal
urges, and fills the populace
with lofty goals. It's
the idea that "God
is on our side", and
whatever furthers American
interests is divinely guided.
Neptune takes some 165
years to make one complete
cycle around the zodiac.
The last time Neptune was
in this degree area was
in the 1840s when "Manifest
Destiny" was the catch
phrase of the day. At the
time white Americans were
filled with nationalistic,
expansionist zeal, which
blinded them to the genocide
of Native American nations,
and the systematic profiteering
through slave labor. How
much have we learned since
then?
Deepak Chopra, Peace is the Way
"Like any habit, war has worn a groove in our minds," writes
Deepak Chopra in his latest book Peace is the Way. "We reach
for war the way a chain-smoker reaches for a cigarette, muttering
all the while we have to quit." Chopra should know. He used
to be a chain-smoker when he was a doctor, and was on the verge
of an emotional breakdown.
Chopra was born with his
Libra Sun conjunct Chiron
(October 22, 1946; 3:45
pm; New Delhi, India).
The Sun-Chiron link describes
the path to self-fulfillment
as a healer – not
in the traditional sense
of the medical doctor,
but one that practices
the mind-body connection.
In 1984 when transiting
Pluto passed over his Sun-Chiron
he left his medical practice,
took up meditation, and
changed his life.
Since then he has gone
on to write 40 books and
electrify the New Age,
mind-body movement. With
Uranus, the planet of revolution,
exactly conjunct his fourth
house cusp, Chopra's psyche
is grounded in a need for
dynamic, fundamental change
from traditional pathways.
Ignoring this psychological
need leads to tremendous
anxiety. The healthy expression
of this placement comes
from being a global citizen.
This Uranus happens to
be precisely conjunct the
U.S. Mars, the natural
ruler of war, and in the
Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope
also rules the sixth house
of health. The medical
establishment used to call
him a fraud, but now he's
invited regularly to speak
at medical schools. Over
the last year transiting
Pluto entered his tenth
house of career while opposing
his natal Uranus, as he
changed his professional
focus from alternative
medicine to promoting peace.
Ron Howard Directs The DaVinci Code
Called
the biggest film adaptation since "Harry Potter", "The
DaVinci Code" is already generating plenty of international
buzz, even though filming won't start for several months, and the
release date is scheduled for May 2006. Director Ron Howard will
be calling the shots as he once again teams up with Tom Hanks,
a combination that proved successful in 1984 with "Splash",
and again in 1995 with "Apollo 13".
Ron Howard was born with his
Pisces Sun square Mars and
trine Saturn (March 1, 1954;
9:03 am; Duncan, OK). The Sun-Mars
square pushed him to express
himself early and eagerly,
an astrological factor contributing
to his success as a child actor.
By the age of 15 he had already
begun feeling and expressing
his more mature side, the Sun-Saturn
trine, leading him into directing.
The shift from child actor
to director is paralleled by
his Lunar Node connections,
which esoteric astrologers
use to explore reincarnation.
Uranus is conjunct the South
Node in the fourth house of
the home, which represents
the talents and tendencies
he brings into this life from
previous lives. Uranus here
describes his sudden, early
fame, aided by his parents
who were both actors.
The Moon in authoritarian Capricorn
is exactly conjunct his North
Node, showing how he would
eventually find professional
success through directing.
His Pisces Sun is near the
twelfth house, so that he feels
more comfortable standing behind
the scenes. Over the next year
filming for "The DaVinci
Code" takes place as transiting
Uranus is conjunct Howard's
Sun. This is the kind of celestial
electricity that makes for
blockbuster entertainment.
