Shifting the Epicenter of Global Attention
Is it just a coincidence that the catastrophic tsunami took place
off the coast of Indonesia, the world's most populous Islam nation?
Such wide scale disaster begs the theological question, what was
God thinking?
Although astrologers profess
no common religion, many do express a belief that we are on the
cusp of the Age of Aquarius and leaving the Age of Pisces behind.
One distinction between
these two ages is that
the faith-oriented Pisces
era was characterized by
religious, cultural enclaves
while the Age of Aquarius
is moving toward a global
consciousness, a collective
self-awareness. The 9-11
attack and the invasion
of Iraq focused the world's
attention on the Piscean
schism between Islam, Christianity
and Judaism. Suddenly,
the tsunami shifted the
epicenter of world attention
from religious antagonism
to Aquarian universal empathy
for the millions of survivors,
no matter what their religion
or ethnic background.
Across the global village
peoples from diverse cultural
heritages began pouring
their collective compassion,
money, and strategic resources
into Southeast Asia. Call
it an inflection point,
a shift in the established
order. Astrologically,
this might be attributed
to Uranus, the ruler of
Aquarius, now in Pisces,
and Neptune, the ruler
of Pisces, now in Aquarius.
They are in each other's
sign, what astrologers
call mutual reception.
This seven-year phase may
be seen as the inflection
point between the Age of
Pisces, where religion
is a function of geography,
to the Age of Aquarius,
where global communications
and transportation systems
are linking the world's
cultures into one people
living on one planet. In
this sense, the tsunami
was a blessing.
Brad and Jennifer Split
Hollywood's premier glamour couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston
announced late last week that they are separating. Rumors of their
troubles were sparked last summer when tabloids reported that
Jennifer was upset over how close Brad got to Angelina Jolie while
they were making a film together, as first forecast back in December
16, 2003 (see also May
18, 2004).
Astrologically, Saturn
is all over their charts
now. Brad Pitt (December
18, 1963; 6:31 am; Shawnee,
OK) has a Moon-Venus conjunction
in the patriarchal sign
of Capricorn. Saturn, the
ultimate love tester, is
in the closing phase of
a long-term opposition
to this Moon-Venus.
Jennifer Aniston (February
11, 1969; 10:22 pm; Sherman
Oaks, CA) has natal Saturn
on her seventh house cusp,
the house of partnerships.
Transiting Saturn is now
on her Midheaven (reputation,
public standing), and forming
a challenging square to
her natal Saturn.
Astrologers also investigate
relationships by making
a composite horoscope,
which is the combination
of their two charts. The
composite Sun is the midpoint
between their individual
Suns, and is located at
24 degrees Capricorn. Transiting
Saturn at the moment is
at 24 degrees Cancer, where
it forms an exact opposition.
The composite horoscope
also reveals the underlying
problem with their marriage.
The major dynamic in this
chart involves Ceres (the
parenting asteroid), which
is under severe stress
from three outer planets.
Over the last two years
transiting Pluto has been
going back and forth across
Ceres, as the couple tried
in vain to make a child.
Now, as they announce their
separation, Pluto is separating
from their composite Ceres.
Sarah McLachlan's World Vision
Among
the many celebrities staging fundraising events for tsunami relief
efforts is Sarah McLachlan, who joins Avril Lavigne and other Canadian
musicians for a January 29 benefit concert in Vancouver, BC. Unlike
other celebrities, McLachlan has a long history of philanthropic
work. Her extraordinary singing ability was first enlisted to fight
poverty and child prostitution in a 1992 documentary called World
Vision.
McLachlan was born with her
Sun in the cause-oriented sign
of Aquarius (January 28, 1968;
Halifax, Nova Scotia; time
unknown). With her Sun in an
exact sextile to Saturn and
her Moon in Capricorn, she
has both the ambition and discipline
to achieve personal success,
but it wasn't enough. Many
Aquarians feel the urge to
extend beyond their nuclear
family, but McLachlan has made
it her life work.
She hears voices. Her Mercury
in Aquarius naturally brings
thoughts and opinions in tune
with her humanitarian ideals.
Her Mercury also closely aspects
all three of the outer planets,
including the epochal Uranus-Pluto
conjunction that shaped the
revolutionary sixties, perhaps
allowing her to channel the
ideas and consciousness of
that era, and transform it
into music for a contemporary
audience.
McLachlan's Mercury is also
influenced by the asteroid
Lilith, which is found in Sagittarius
and is exactly sextile to her
Mercury and square Uranus-Pluto.
Lilith is associated with fiercely
independent women. McLachlan
may be best known for organizing
the "Lilith Fair" which
focuses on emerging women songwriters.
The fair was launched in the
summer of 1997 when both transiting
Uranus and progressed Venus
were conjunct her Sun.
