Bush and the Neptune Cycle

Recently President Bush spent some of his political capital to get the landmark intelligence reform bill to his desk, which he signed last Friday. Also last week Bush's economic agenda was laid out before a receptive audience, and included rewriting the tax laws and overhauling Social Security. Commenting on the speed and boldness of his agenda, Bush said "I don't have much time left."

Since 1840 a president has died in office about every 21 years, a cycle which is now coming into play. Traditional astrologers have attributed this cycle to the Jupiter-Saturn cycle, but this doesn't explain why the United States should be the only nation to feel the effects, nor does it accurately give the timing. The Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope describes both the potential and the timing of these tragic events.

Natally, the U.S. has Uranus and Mars, the planets associated with sudden violence, in the eighth house of death. No other popular U.S. horoscope has this configuration. The Midheaven represents the political party in power and the national leader. Whenever transiting Neptune makes hard aspects to the Midheaven*, a president dies in office.

The only exception was Ronald Reagan, but he had an astrologer who was aware of the danger, and who set his schedule. George W. Bush has Mars in Virgo in close, sharp aspect to the U.S. Uranus. As transiting Neptune approaches its opposition to the U.S. Midheaven, transiting Uranus will be opposing Bush's Mars and squaring the U.S. Uranus. The combination will likely bring Bush plenty of political challenges, but an unusually high risk of assassination.

Pfizer versus Andrew Weil

Last week the best-selling Celebrex joined Vioxx as an over-prescribed, tainted drug that poses significant health risks to its users. The latest findings suggest that the entire class of pain relievers known as cox-2 inhibitors pose significant heart risks. Meanwhile, alternative health practitioners say that ginger or turmeric** may be just as effective, but without the harmful side effects.

Astrologically, the unfolding drug scandal can be attributed to transiting Pluto's square to the U.S. Neptune (as described in NewsScope November 15 and December 6). Another factor shaping up is that transiting Saturn and Chiron are moving into opposition, representing the challenge between the consensus reality and the alternative mind-body-spirit movement. Over the last 30 years a leading proponent of natural alternatives has been Dr. Andrew Weil.

Weil was born with his Sun in informed Gemini (June 8, 1942; 4:00 pm; Philadelphia), along with his Mercury and three outer planets. Chiron is directly associated with holistic health, and in Weil's chart is found in the heroic sign of Leo where it's conjunct relentless Pluto in his tenth house of career. The combination pushes Weil into being a passionate spokesperson and leader for the alternative health movement.

Weil's Mars near his Midheaven is currently under pressure from the transiting Saturn-Chiron opposition. While he personally proposes an integrative approach between mainstream medicine and natural alternatives, the Chiron-Saturn influence will likely bring him into direct conflict with his detractors. Over the next month and throughout 2005 transiting Pluto will be opposing Weil's Mercury, giving him a keen desire to inform people about safe alternatives.

Kevin Spacey Channels Bobby Darin

Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey wrote, directed and stars in "Beyond the Sea", the Bobby Darin story that opened nationwide over the weekend. Spacey's mother, who introduced her son to the 1960s crooner, encouraged him to make the movie, but not until she was near her death in 2002 did production begin. "I made this movie for all mothers,"said Spacey, "but especially for my mother."

Kevin Spacey was born with his Sun in dramatic Leo (July 26, 1959; South Orange, NJ; time unknown). His Moon in bold Aries reiterates his fiery brashness, and his own rather assertive mother. The asteroid Ceres brings deep, emotional bonding within the mother-child relationship via the conjunction with generous Jupiter, but especially in death since they're placed in Scorpio.

Bobby Darin was born with his Sun in the golden-throat sign of Taurus (May 14, 1936; 5:28 am; Manhattan Beach, NY). Like Spacey, Darin has Ceres in Scorpio, and it's given extra prominence by being opposite his Sun. Darin's father died just after he was born, so his mother was forced to raise him alone. The traditional symbol for the mother, the Moon, is found in Aquarius, and is in a deeply challenging aspect (an exact inconjunction) to Pluto.

Darin's Ceres in Scorpio and Moon aspecting Pluto is a doubled message about some dark mystery surrounding his mother. Pluto conjunct the fourth house cusp (representing the mother) repeats the message a third time. Spacey's Chiron is right on Darin's Moon, and his story-telling Jupiter is right on his Ceres. These are the only strong connections between their two charts. Who else but Kevin Spacey could reveal the secret about Darin's mother?
