Ukraine at the Crossroads
In a series of fast-paced developments following a disputed presidential
election, the Ukrainian Supreme Court agreed last Thursday to
review complaints of fraud and abuse. Leaders from the U.S. government,
the EU, Russia, and across the international community have voiced
their concerns about the outcome as tens of thousands of protestors
clamored for justice in Kiev's Independence Square.
Ukraine's modern horoscope
is set for their declaration
of independence from the
U.S.S. R on August 24,
1991 (5:31 pm EET*; Kiev).
Saturn on this chart's
Ascendant describes an
authoritarian government,
but is in mutual reception
with Uranus, meaning Saturn
is in Uranus's sign Aquarius
and Uranus is in Saturn's
sign Capricorn. With Uranus
located in the twelfth
house, the astrologer can
read Moscow's behind-the
scenes influence over the
Ukrainian government.
The Moon in Aquarius is
under severe stress from
a square to Pluto and oppositions
to three planets in Leo.
From this one senses the
divided nation, the pro-Russian
eastern half and the pro-European
western half. This split
became an emotional explosion
one week ago when the election
results were announced,
precisely as the progressed
Moon was exactly, to-the-minute
opposite the natal Moon.
At the moment transiting
Saturn is sitting right
on the seventh house cusp.
Saturn here represents
the local and outside authorities
openly criticizing the
fraudulent election. The
popular challenger Viktor
Yuschenko (February 23,
1954) has his Sun in early
Pisces which is currently
getting a high-wattage
awakening from transiting
Uranus, inspiring him to
call for a new election.
And he won't back down.
CIA in Upheaval
Immediately after the November 2 election, President (to-the-victor-belongs-the-spoils)
Bush overhauled his cabinet, and prompted the recently appointed
Porter Goss to do the same at the CIA. Over the summer the CIA
issued a report that cast doubt over the occupation of Iraq, which
some prominent Republicans considered to be disloyal to the President.
Now it's payback.
The CIA horoscope (September
26, 1947; 10:10 am; Washington
DC*) is reflecting the
signs of fundamental changes,
as well as serious morale
problems. With Scorpio
Rising, the CIA Mars at
27 degrees Cancer is the
co-ruler of this chart.
Transiting Saturn (the
Grim Reaper) stopped right
on the CIA Mars, a rare,
major hit that is trimming
the spy agency to get in
synch with political realities.
One of the most significant
astrological developments
in the CIA chart is that
progressed Mercury is exactly
conjunct its Scorpio Ascendant.
Mercury is naturally associated
with agents, and in the
twelfth house natally,
secret agents. Mercury
also represents Porter
Goss's agents, ie his staff
of political appointees.
The staff has alienated
the proud, old guard, leading
to mass resignations and
rebellion in the ranks.
The new CIA will have more
money (transiting Pluto
and progressed Venus both
conjunct the second house
Juno), and 50 percent more
covert operatives. However,
disenchantment is bound
to undermine Goss's efforts.
This can be seen in transiting
Neptune's opposition to
the CIA Pluto. Pluto rules
the chart, and is most
prominently placed at the
Midheaven. Neptune opposite
this Pluto throughout 2005
represents the developing
morale problem.
Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw, Anchors Aweigh
Transiting
Saturn opposite the U.S. Pluto is changing the face of America,
literally. News anchors Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather are both moving
on after presenting the nightly news for over two decades each.
Their faces, along with Peter Jennings, are among the most familiar
in the world as they have perennially survived the cutthroat ratings
game to become American icons.
Practicing astrologers know
that the horoscope's angles
are what ground the entity's
psyche (or soul) in experience.
The Ascendant and Midheaven,
and their opposite points "anchor" the
personality in our three-dimensional
reality matrix. In the same
way, Tom Brokaw (February 6,
1940; 3:40 am; Webster, SD)
and Dan Rather (October 31,
1931; 6:13 pm; Wharton, TX)
have anchored geopolitical
events for the American collective
psyche.
Brokaw's Sun at 16 degrees
Aquarius is precisely conjunct
the U.S. fourth house cusp,
the foundation point of the
U.S. Scorpio Rising horoscope.
Ronald Reagan's Sun is also
found at 16 degrees Aquarius,
and he likewise became an anchor
and foundation for the rise
of Conservative Republicans.
Brokaw is further integrated
into the American experience
through his Capricorn Moon,
which is conjunct the U.S.
Pluto.
Dan Rather's Sun at 7 degrees
Scorpio is conjunct the U.S.
Scorpio Ascendant. This zodiacal
point is a magnet for American
heroes, including four American
Presidents who have their Suns
on this same degree. Now that
Saturn has stopped while opposing
America's ruling planet Pluto,
the anchors are being re-structured,
which is the key phrase for
Saturn-Pluto contacts. Anchors
aweigh.
* The exact time of the declaration
is uncertain, but according
to Nicholas Campion in his
Book of World Horoscopes, 5:31
pm is a best guess since it
was reported and used by local
astrologers. However, Campion
uses the BGT time zone, which
is three hours from GMT, and
the Ukraine switched over to
EET (two hours from GMT) in
1990 according to the definitive
ACS Atlas found in the best
astrology software programs.
It seems, therefore, that the
horoscope for Ukraine should
have 26CAP06 Rising, and not
8CAP41 as shown in his book.
The current situation, with
Saturn now at 27 Capricorn,
supports the EET time zone.
