Post-Election Analysis
Political analysts pored over the numbers last week, trying to
figure out precisely how George Bush defeated John Kerry by 3.5
million votes. The pre-election tracking polls missed the top
issue cited by voters, which was "moral values." And
by moral values, the voters meant not poverty, the war, or the
environment, but the religious issues, and especially gay marriage.
Astrologically, the rise
of religious fundamentalism
has long been associated
with Pluto's entry into
Sagittarius. About 40 percent
of Americans call themselves
Evangelicals now, and they
have been on the rise ever
since Pluto entered Sagittarius
in 1995. Transiting Uranus
in faith-oriented Pisces
further underscores the
politicalization of organized
religion across the global
village, with a powerful
polarizing effect vis-a-vis
radical Islam.
Transiting Pluto and Uranus
were both making tight
connections to the U.S.
horoscope during the election,
but the progressed U.S.
horoscope refines these
measurements (see below).
The progressed Moon just
entered the ninth house
and will be conjunct the
Sun in the family-values
sign of Cancer in January
2005, just as Bush is inaugurated.
The progressed Moon in
the house of morality reveals
the emotional, gut-level
issues that were on voters'
minds.
In the U.S. horoscope Juno,
the asteroid associated
with marriage, is in the
twelfth house of hidden
affairs. This position
may account for the unrecognized
importance of anti-gay
marriage initiatives, which
were on the ballot in eleven
states, including pivotal
Ohio. The current prominence
of Juno (progressed Juno
squares progressed Neptune;
transiting Juno, Chiron,
and Pluto all hitting natal
Juno) specifically describes
the marriage issue.
The Progressed USA Horoscope
A few readers have asked what's going on in the progressed* U.S.
horoscope. The term "progressed" refers to a forecasting
technique based on the formula that one day after birth is symbolically
equivalent to one year after birth. Now that the U.S. is 228 years
old, a chart for 228 days after the Declaration of Independence
reflects current developments. Any decent astrology program can
do the calculations.
Using the Scorpio Rising
horoscope (July 4, 1776;
2:21 pm LMT; Philadelphia),
perhaps the most significant
factor is that the progressed
Midheaven entered Aries
about three years ago,
right after the 9-11 incident.
The progressed MC in Aries
(2AR49) represents a 30-year
cycle that emphasizes the
military component of the
nation, and describes the
President's primary job
as Commander-in-Chief.
Progressed Mars (18LI41)
has been in the twelfth
house of secret enemies
and activities for about
20 years, but only recently
became a force to reckon
with when the progressed
Midheaven entered Aries
(Mars rules Aries). Then
suddenly Mars awakened
and manifested as the terrorist
threat. Next year progressed
Mars turns retrograde.
Watch for any major transit
to 18 degrees of the cardinal
signs to activate this
force.
Progressed Venus (13AR21)
is in Aries and just completed
a square to the U.S. Sun.
Venus, as the natural ruler
of money, shows the record
amount of money spent during
the presidential campaign.
Progressed Venus is nearing
an opposition to the U.S.
Saturn. This aspect will
be exact in February 2006.
It can bring a number of
significant developments
in the economic realm,
including reform of social
security, deficit problems,
and a downturn in the business
cycle.
Jude Law, What's It All About?
Get
ready for Jude Law. Over the next few months the British actor
will be appearing in six major films, including "The Aviator", "Closer",
and a re-make of the 1966 dramatic comedy Alfie. The two-time Oscar
nominee made the movies over the last two years, but said it's
just a coincidence in scheduling that they should all be released
at the same time.
Jude Law was born with his
Sun in responsible Capricorn
(December 29, 1972; London;
time unknown), a position that
is challenged by a square to
Pluto in the partnership sign
of Libra. The Sun-Pluto square
gives an intensity and a darkness
of soul which comes across
in many of his films, and especially
Alfie, which he described as
a "very, very honest and
brutal and interesting and
fun look at relationships."
Law's Mercury is in talkative,
flighty Sagittarius, but is
given weight and thoughtfulness
by the opposition to Saturn.
With an accurate birth time,
Law's Mercury would likely
become more prominently placed,
since this planet is now under
major activation (by transiting
Pluto and progressed Mars)
as his six films are released.
This might indicate a Gemini
Ascendant, or Mercury in the
tenth house of career.
Jude Law's progressed Venus
tells the inside story of his
love life and pending success.
He separated from his wife
a year ago when his progressed
Venus formed a square to Uranus,
the divorce planet. His progressed
Venus over the coming year
will be conjunct his progressed
Jupiter, an extremely fortunate
combination that is bound to
bring him plenty of new opportunities,
money, and popularity.
