Uranus in Pisces and the Enemy Within
Last week President Bush announced a bold initiative on American immigration policies, setting off a great debate over the proposed reforms. Although the final immigration reform bill will likely be substantially altered by the time it gets signed, a secondary motive from a national security view is to find out exactly who is in the country in order to track potential terrorists.
Astrologically, giving an incentive to illegal immigrants to let the government know they are here is a reflection of Uranus entering Pisces. On December 30 Uranus re-entered the misty, feeling-oriented sign of Pisces where it will stay until May 2010. Uranus symbolizes the radical or revolutionary slipping through porous borders (Pisces). Giving illegal workers ID cards makes it easier to track potential terrorists.
Uranus in Pisces also represents the revolutionary (Uranus) in prison (Pisces). Last week the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of an American of Saudi descent who is contesting his open-ended confinement. Officials also began discussing the prisoners held at Guantanamo naval base. Saddam Hussein was just declared an official POW, an event foreshadowed by the last time Uranus was in Pisces when Adolph Hitler was jailed.
From an historical perspective, one Uranus cycle ago (in 1919) the American Communist Party was founded. The following year the American Attorney General declared the group a "red menace" which sparked an hysterical response from the general public. In the current era of terrorist threats, Americans face the identical challenge of understanding the difference between what is a real threat, and an over-reaction which tramples the rights of the innocent.
Wesley Clark Gains Momentum
Retired general Wesley Clark surged in national polls last week, placing him close behind frontrunner Howard Dean among the Democratic candidates. Since Clark entered the race late, he's decided to abandon his efforts in the Iowa primary, but in New Hampshire he's now in a statistical dead heat with Dean. Clark has also done well in campaign funding, raising some $10 million over the last quarter.
Wesley Clark was born with the fixed-gaze sign of Scorpio Rising (December 23, 1944; 5:34 am; Chicago*), making Pluto the ruler of his horoscope. Natally, Pluto is found in the ninth house of foreign affairs, so that his military career naturally highlights his leadership of NATO and the 1999 invasion force into Kosovo. Pluto in the ninth house also describes Clark's role as a moral authority.
Clark was born with Mars in Sagittarius, a placement recently activated by transiting Pluto, and giving him the proverbial "fire in the belly". Howard Dean also has Mars in Sagittarius, and soon transiting Pluto will be conjunct his Mars. The two have many planetary points in common, usually a sign of great compatibility, but the Pluto-to-Mars influence means they both want the top job.
Clark's progressed Mercury (ruling his Midheaven) will be conjunct the U.S. Aquarius Moon in mid-June. This important link indicates that his message (Mercury) will be increasingly well-received by the people (U.S. Moon) between now and then. On January 27, the date of the New Hampshire primary, Clark's horoscope is electrified (transit Uranus sextile Sun, and conjunct progressed Sun), a celestial sign that he will do surprisingly well, and quite possibly gain a stunning upset victory over Dean.
Britney Spears Gets Married
What was she thinking? Around 5:30 am on January 3, Britney Spears married her childhood friend Jason Alexander in a Las Vegas chapel. The $100 million performer wore a black shirt, torn jeans and sneakers, and by the next day realized that she had made a mistake. Friends assert that the two weren't drunk, but two days later the marriage was officially annulled.
Britney Spears (December 2, 1981; 1:30 am; Mahon, MS) was born with an impulsive Mercury-Uranus conjunction, although this tendency must psychologically vie with a tightly controlled Venus in Capricorn square Saturn. The Venus-Saturn influence gives her discipline and the solid, if not suffocating advice of her managers and elders.
Now that Uranus has entered Pisces, it forms a square to her natal Uranus, activating her more impulsive side, and giving her a desire to break free of restraints. This new side has been evident over the last year, most notably with her center stage kiss with Madonna (see NewsScope April 28, 2003 for more). Juno, the marriage asteroid, is found between her Mercury and Uranus, setting up the scenario for unusual events concerning marriage.
Juno was all over her chart during her brief marriage (transiting Juno conjunct Neptune, square Mars; transiting Uranus square Juno, progressed Moon and Juno conjunct her Sun). On March 2 Britney begins touring across the country. Transiting Uranus will form its exact square to her natal Juno on March 12, so watch for more radical moves belittling the institution of marriage.
* Clark's birth time is unknown, though NewsScope reader Betsy Stang reports that she spoke with Clark during a fundraiser, and that he said (as best he recalls) he was born at 5:43 am. I've rectified this time to 5:34 am. Note that on September 17, 2003 - the day he entered the race for the Democratic nomination, the following conditions were in play according to a 5:34 am birth time:
