Mars in Aquarius
Mars is currently transiting through cause-oriented Aquarius, and over the coming week will generate plenty of action across the geopolitical spectrum. Jupiter in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius are nearing their third and final opposition, which will become exact on June 3. The underlying dynamic defined by this Jupiter-Neptune influence is now being activated by Mars.
The faster moving Mars will make two relatively quick aspects to this polarity, first an opposition to Jupiter on May 7, and then a conjunction with Neptune on May 14. Individuals, nations, and political and business leaders with personal planets in this degree zone will be highly motivated to take dramatic action. Jupiter in Leo has big ideas, and Neptune in Aquarius is concerned about democracy, alliances, and networking. The key challenge is how the individual interacts with the group.
President Bushs chart is the primary example of this Jupiter-Neptune polarity since it takes place right on his Leo Ascendant. Last week when Mars entered his seventh house of open enemies, he declared an end to the war in Iraq. Bush played out the Jupiter in Leo side, emphasizing his own heroic, individual path. Now that Mars is joining Neptune in Aquarius, he plans to withdraw America forces, and allow international forces to play a larger role.
Mars in this Jupiter-Neptune zone will surely inspire major acts of terrorism. The Jupiter-Neptune combination by itself is highly idealistic and religious. Throw Mars into this mix, and you get the spiritual warrior, which often finds expression in the Middle East as the suicide bomber. We can also expect that the U.S. forces will have their hands full dealing with the Islamic movement in Iraq.
The Nucleus and its Satellites
The current Mars-Jupiter-Neptune alignment provides an excellent opportunity to see how the planets influence pervades our holistic universe where everything is connected. The nations now in the news all have key planets in the middle of Leo. China, with its SARS problem, has a Mars-Pluto conjunction in mid-Leo. India just announced an initiative to try and mend fences with its archrival Pakistan, and the same is happening in Israel (vis-à-vis Palestine) under the so-called Road Map to Peace.
India, Pakistan and Israel all have Pluto in mid-Leo along with Saturn in Leo. These nations, along with the United Nations and the Pentagon were formed in the post World War II era, and are now being given the opportunity (Jupiter in Leo) to come to equitable terms with the wishes and expectations of the global community (Neptune in Aquarius). As Mars enters this mix over the coming week, all efforts will be severely challenged.
Iraq, formed in post World War I era, has a Mars-Neptune conjunction in mid-Leo. The chaotic process of nation-building pits the America forces against the various factions within Iraq, some interacting harmoniously and cooperatively, while others in open hostility.
American command and control is divided between competing generals (each identifying with Jupiter in Leo), while equally strong divisions exist among hopeful Iraqis. As Mars opposes Jupiter in Leo, expect the stronger leaders to emerge, although in Iraq this could very well be the Shiite clergy. American plans for an Islamic democracy dont allow an Iranian styled Islamic republic.
Lucille Ball, The Synergy of Partnership
Lucille Balls entertaining life story entered Americas collective consciousness Sunday when Rachel York portrayed the comedienne for the three-hour CBS movie. For most of the 1950s the I Love Lucy show was the number one show in the Neilson ratings, and in re-runs is currently seen in 80 countries across our global village.
Lucille Ball was born a dramatic Leo (August 6, 1911; 5:00 pm; Jamestown, NY) with an ambitious Capricorn Moon placed right on her Ascendant. With the partnership sign of Libra on her Midheaven, Lucy found that her path to success meant teaming up with her sexy Cuban husband, Desi Arnaz. Unfortunately, with her Sun squaring Mars, and Pluto conjunct her Descendant, their relationship was marred by ego battles and infidelity.
Still, the show must go on. The wildly successful I Love Lucy show debuted on October 15, 1951. Four planets in Libra emphasized the sitcoms theme about a marriage between a white American girl and a Cuban bandleader, which at the time was highly provocative storyline. Saturn in Libra is in an exact opposition to Jupiter in Aries, and this polarity reveals the tension between the driven egos (Jupiter in Aries) and the obligations of partnership (Saturn in Libra).
Lucille Balls Leo Sun sits right in the center of the current Mars-Jupiter-Neptune alignment, and shows us how a natal horoscope remains active even after the individuals death. Lucille Balls life reflects the challenges and opportunities available to the individual superstar (Jupiter in Leo) as she (or he) interacts with her supporting cast and network of self-sacrificing friends (Neptune in Aquarius). With Mars in the picture, the interactions are often contentious, but highly synergistic when in balance.
