June hosts 20 dynamic aspects: four ingresses, three squares, three oppositions, three conjunctions, one occultation, one ESP, one direct station, one retrograde station, a new Moon, a full Moon, and a planet's passage out of bounds. The first three weeks in June is mainly Mercury's domain. Mercury travels through its own air sign while waltzing through a dancing mutable-grand-square involving Venus, Jupiter, Pluto, Uranus, Sun and Moon. Later in the month, energies are Lunar directed, and emotional and security needs are underscored.

6/2 Venus Rx opposes Pluto Rx 6:19 PM, 21:08 Gemini/Sagittarius. The methods used to pursue your own values need to be realigned. Outcome oriented quests may be disproportionate to inner needs. Anticipate possible outcomes and be prepared to alter your target to something more realistic.

Full Moon 12:56 Sagittarius, 9:20 PM West Coast. Aspiring to bettering your self and your lot in life may come to a happy fruition if you adhered to an honorable set of values. Projects that help you develop focus and cooperation with others may become a defining factor. Conscious awareness can keep your emotions from exaggerating your goals. West coast issues deal with places of seclusion, and communicating your values to subordinates.

6/3 Full Moon 12:56 Sagittarius, 12:20 AM East Coast. The basis of your objective is closely associated with domestic or family values, played out in your professional life. The two need to be integrated to the satisfaction of your peers and yourself.

Mars back in bounds. Favors owed may be claimed. When your needs were filled by others during the past two months, it was difficult to anticipate someone needing your help. Give your assistance freely, and regain a sense of honor and credibility that may have previously been strained. Put an end to a possible wild ride, and do a reality check.

6/5 Venus Rx back in bounds. Accountability markers may be called in, and issues may arise about finding resolution for impulsive value judgments made during the past two months.
Mercury enters Gemini 5:44 AM. As the dancing grand mutable square process commences, the rewards of teamwork impart meaning to the next twenty days. Movement from a collaborative effort to taking charge in a considerate manner can calm circumstances so that people respond well to a new leadership role, built on past successes. An emphasis on mutually beneficial alliances can invite cooperation. A time of crisis emerges on June 8 that brings out a great many previously hidden emotions. These must be cleared so that reason can be restored. Direct input on June 10 can improve awareness. Breakthroughs in communication, or artistry developed to expand understanding can contribute to team efforts. June 12 brings a need to reevaluate and integrate spiritual ideals within your project. By June 14, guidance from leaders and wise advisors may seem to falter. However, it may be that new, enriched ideas are being hatched, and it may take a while to communicate them. Meanwhile, keep your well-thought-out goals in mind, and communicate to your leaders the need to be realistic. By June 15, a revisioning of the project will be available for your inspection. Keep your perspective open and concentrate on being the peace and harmony that you desire in your life. By the new Moon on June 17 it can be an appropriate time to launch an official new version of your plan based on fairness, teamwork, and a new philosophy of life that merges timeless values and current needs. This may necessitate letting go of old patterns, and having faith that those new patterns will help bring success. Even though they are not yet manifested by June 18, effectiveness in communicating new models of working relationships can promise exciting and fulfilling outcomes. With the energy shift of June 19, there will be pressure to fulfill promises made earlier. Emotional support will be requested to help support realities that have not been tested, but are based on sound principles. The coming week will be the proving ground. If there is enough support by June 26 a powerful alliance can be formed that will take the first step towards proving its worth. The principles in this scenario can be transferred to various real situations; with faith and support, you can use this grand square in a positive and constructive manner.

6/8 Venus Rx transits Sun* 1:43 AM, 17:53 Gemini (full transit lasts 6 hours). Excitement of discovery comes before any practical significance can be found, or before consequences can be approximated. Basic personal values need to be reviewed. That which makes each person unique must be supported from within. The emotions of appreciation, gratitude, and love with conviction can create new paths and can be the key to manifesting a new purpose in your life. Each person will find the opportunity to compare his/her personal values to those in selected groups. Many transformative decisions will take place, and many will find that their positions were different from what they originally thought them to be, although some will need to find courage to declare their new understandings, or to make changes immediately. Optimum date is December 6, 2004 when Venus conjoins Mars at 16:36 Scorpio, thereby defining a new dance.

Mercury squares Uranus 5:04 PM, 6:48 Gemini/Pisces. (See June 5)
6/10 Saturn ESP (leaves shadow) 4:48 AM, 13:14 Cancer. Much negotiation will be taking place, bringing new players into the game. Opportunities present themselves that outline and define responsibilities. Will there be success? Only if adjustments in attitudes are made, and a real effort to communicate, understand and value the process.

Uranus turns Rx 8:48 AM, 6:48 Pisces. Reviewing current options for action need to be accomplished before resolution can take place. The need to be rebellious may come to a halt while dependencies are considered. Recent actions may make it apparent that we aren't as independent as we might like to be. Inner processes can bring clarity, but one must build strong resistance against acting without conscious purpose.

Mercury squares Jupiter 4:49 PM, 10:53 Gemini/Virgo. (See June 5)

6/11 Sun opposes Pluto Rx 5:25 AM, 20:54 Gemini/Sagittarius. The need to control your environment can make your life so busy that you loose control of your own direction. Self-mastery can be learned and initiated through gaining a perspective of what is truly important.

6/12 Mercury conjoins Venus Rx 4:24 PM, 15:04 Gemini. (See June 5)

6/14 Mercury OOB 5 PM, 19:25 Gemini. (See June 5)

6/15 Mercury opposes Pluto Rx 8:06 AM, 20:48 Gemini/Sagittarius. (See June 5)

6/17 New Moon 26:57 Gemini, west coast 1:25 PM, east coast 4:25 PM. (See June 5) On the west coast, new patterns in education may be needed to achieve new professional skills and teamwork. On the east coast sharing tasks and projects in a new format may open exciting possibilities that bring in cooperation and harmony from families and domestic loyalties.

6/18 Sun conjoins Mercury 2:24 PM, 27:57 Gemini. (See June 5)

6/19 Venus Rx squares Jupiter 2:39 AM, 11:49 Gemini/Virgo. Crises may arise as a result of reflection on your understanding of the world that threaten your beliefs and philosophy of life. Either your principles will support, or contradict what you thought was truth. Whatever the outcome, the test is to go beneath the details and get clear about the principles. Evaluation on a spiritual level can help you get in touch with your inner truth.

Mercury enters Cancer 12:49 PM. (See June 5)

6/20 Sun enters Cancer 5:56 PM Summer Solstice. A dynamic alliance between authority and sensitivity is possible now. You can build for success by recalling previous tests or lessons learned. Keep an emphasis on self-nurturing and healing past sufferings. Release past offenses, but avoid putting yourself at risk in the future.

6/23 Mars enters Leo 1:50 PM. Build an awareness of your own and others' strengths and weaknesses. You may be asked to protect or guard someone unable to defend himself/herself. Your courage may be recognized and your leadership ability admired.

6/26 Mercury conjoins Saturn 5:09 PM, 15:19 Cancer. (See June 5)

6/29 Venus turns direct 4:16 PM, 9:38 Gemini. Your ability to appreciate and respect the ideas and ideals of others can be helpful to you in securing closure or finishing a mission that you undertook, perhaps for another person. Teamwork and cooperation make the job easier, and provide great power to relationships; the results equaling more than the total of energy input.

*The complete cycle of the transit of Venus is 243 years. It follows a sequence of 8 years/121.5 years/8 years/105.5 years. The last transit was on December 6, 1882; the next transit will take place June 6, 2012; and the next, December 11, 2117)

JUNE 2004 SYMBOLISM

June is the month of love and relationships. It is named for the Roman mother goddess, Juno (Hera in Greek mythology). Juno was the patroness of women, the sanctity of marriage and the family. She was also the guardian of money and wealth. She was honored at Rome at the midsummer harvest. In Christian symbolism June is one of two months (also October) when the Blessed Madonna and her Immaculate Heart of Love is venerated. In Babylonian and Sumerian mythology, Ishtar and Inanna were both honored as creation-mother-guardian goddesses, and symbolize the story of Venus; change between morning and evening star. (See the book, "Venus" by Ronnie Gale Dreyer.) Both goddesses descended into the Underworld, and both arrange to have their husbands resurrected from death. Inanna's husband was Dumuzi. Ishtar's husband was Tammuz. Tammuz is also the name of the Hebrew Lunar month, which begins the Hebrew year. Tammuz has its equivalent in the goddess month of Rosea. Rosh Hodesh (Hebrew for new month) begins with a day of fasting at the Gemini new Moon.

The full Moon of June is known as the Celtic Oak Moon, the Wiccan Dyad Moon (or the Strong Sun Moon), and the Pagan Rose Moon, about which is said "Everything she touches - changes". A full Moon in June is favorable for establishing a home and other domestic procedures sacred to Juno.

The moonstone and the pearl are associated with June. Both are symbolically linked with the Moon. If a moonstone is held under the tongue when the Moon is full, it is said to enhance one's ability to perceive the future. It is also associated with the third eye, and brings clarity to spiritual quests, helping to guide souls through the astral realm. Wearing a Moonstone is said to cleanse the lymph system. The Pearl is the symbol of transmutation. Pearls are symbolic of turning irritation or aggravation into mastery and value. Wearing pearls is said to calm emotions and increase peace of mind. These organic gems are said to absorb toxins. After wearing, pearls may be cleansed by rinsing with salt water, and gently drying with a soft cloth. Pearls are said to draw out and make manifest the beauty from within the wearer.

June is traditionally the month of weddings. It was said that a woman married in June would always be considered a bride. A Summer Solstice wedding brought a baby to birth at the spring equinox, when the cold of winter was waning. Wedding rings were put on the fourth finger because the ancients believed that finger contained a nerve going straight to the heart. As it turns out, the heart meridian has a pressure point at the junction between the ring finger and the little finger, marking the place where a wedding ring is worn.

June first is the ancient festival of Carna (also called Cardea), the goddess of hinges. When invoked, she opened what was closed, and closed what was open. She was the protector of Roman homes and the domestic comings and goings of the family. The month of June is the "hinge of the year" (which is another term for the summer solstice). Swinging on a swing was part of a ritual to encourage the growth of crops. Ancient Roman farmers hung balls, masks, and small images of human figures, called oscilla, on trees or in doorways to swing in the wind; and children would skip along, hand in hand, swinging their arms, singing songs of summer. The hinge facilitates the doorway to the inner realms, and is symbolic of turning points in one's life. Rituals to activate one's inner hinge are performed during June.

June 4 marks the ancient festival of Rosalia, honoring Aphrodite. Worshippers made garlands of roses, on which they counted prayers of supplication. Saint Dominic started the Christian rosary in the early 13th century AD to help an illiterate laity keep track of the repetition of their prayers. Some say that Dominic adopted it from Islamic prayer beads. The Pearls of Faith or Islam's Rosary keeps count of the Ninety-Nine Beautiful Names of Allah. On "Paternoster Way" the London craft guilds of old fashioned rosaries, primarily of wood or seeds. Olive wood or pits are still a favorite, recalling the Garden of Gethsemane. The phrase, "knock on wood" comes from reference to prayers of supplication made with rosary beads.

June 6 is Trinity Sunday in the Christian religion, which celebrates the Holy Mystery of Three "Persons" in One God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In ancient religions there is a Trinity of Goddesses, Virgin Maiden, Mother and Crone.

June 7 is Vesta Aperit, the Feast of Vesta (Hestia in Greek mythology), when her temple doors were opened to married women for eight days. The rest of the year the temple was open only to Vestal Virgins. This festival honors women's rite of passage from Virgin to Mother.

June 8 is the celebration of Muhammad, founder of Islam. The Lunar calendar is shared by Hebrews, Moslems and Pagans, and overlaps the Solar calendar, which some Hebrews, some Pagans, and most of the western religious cultures also share. The Islamic calendar is strictly Lunar, and not connected to the Solar year. The Islamic calendar (Hijri) relies on an eyewitness observation of the new crescent Moon to begin the month. The Christian calendar uses the Solar year, but derives some input from the Lunar cycle, most notably for the calculation of Easter.

June 8 is also the festival of Mena, goddess of menstruation, which honors the beginning of a woman's fertile status. Mena comes from the Roman word for "the right moment".

June 12 is the celebration day of Hermes (aka Mercury), Divine Messenger and Conductor of Souls to the underworld. The Sun is still in the sign of Gemini, ruled by Mercury. Other mythological embodiments of this energy are Maat, Anubis, Hermes, Thoth, Odin and Loki. June 12 is also the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi, which honors the mystery of the Eucharist, the Body of Christ mystically given to the faithful at Communion.

June 15 is the Festival of Suijin Matsuri, the Shinto rite that honors the Water Deity. This includes all manifestations of Kuni-Tokotachi-no-Kami, the Divine Principle of the Water Divinity: the One: the universal, eternal, primordial, immanent divinity.

June 20 is Father's Day in America (third Sunday in June). Sonora Dodd, of Washington State initiated the first Father's Day on June 19, 1910 to honor her widowed father as protector and provider, and all the sacrifices he made in raising six children on his own. A Presidential proclamation in 1966 by Lyndon Johnson made it a national holiday. Father's Day is celebrated unofficially in many countries.

The Summer Solstice (this year June 20) is also known as the Wiccan Sabbat, Litha, and is dedicated to the mother goddesses in all the cultural mythic stories. It is one of the four Solar points of the year, and marks the halfway point in the Earth's yearly journey around the Sun. In medieval times, burning torches were carried in a sunwise direction around buildings, gardens and fields to ensure good fortune. In many religions, the Summer Solstice marks a ritual of sanctification. In the Norse tradition it is called Sonnenwende, meaning The Sun's Turning. In the Celtic and Druidic traditions it is the festival of Alban Heruin or Alban Hefin, when the Oak King, (Taliesin - the bright Sun), symbolizing the waxing year surrenders to the Holly King, (Avagddu - the dark Sun) symbolizing the waning year. In latitudes beyond 60 degrees north, the nine days before and after the Solstice are called "Beliye Nochi", or the festive season of White Nights. The Sun around the time of the Summer Solstice never sets in those latitudes. Conversely, at the Winter Solstice, the Sun does not rise above the horizon. In ancient Lithuania and throughout central Europe, the rite called „Binding of the Wreaths was celebrated by newly married couples on the full Moon after the Solstice. The flower and leaf crowns they wore were symbolic of the god and goddess of potency and fertility invoking a blessing on their marriage.

No midsummer ritual is as famous as that celebrated annually at Stonehenge (although it has been discouraged since 1986). For many years the Druids held their Summer Solstice Service in the sacred open-air temple at dawn on the day of the Sun's passage into summer. As the Sun rose majestically over the Hele-Stone (named for Helios, the Sun god), their sacrament was observed with rituals, candles and incense.

June 24 is the birthday of St. John the Baptist. Because he was a prophet of the messiah, preparing the way for Jesus ministry, both of their birthdays are celebrated, whereas most of the Christian saints' death dates mark their honorings. John is said to have been touched by the Holy Spirit while in his mother's womb. Their birthdays are celebrated at opposite ends of the year.

June 29 The Feasts of Saints Peter and Paul are celebrated on June 29 and 30. Christ founded his church on "the Rock", as he referred to Peter. Traditionally, this day is propitious for laying the foundations of new buildings, and for pronouncing an invocation for the smooth and safe process of construction.

The potential of teamwork from Gemini and nurturance from Cancer contribute to the themes of June. A synthesis of philosophical perspectives from Theosophy, Anthroposophy, and Hermetic teachings tells us:

The Mystical Union between the
Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine
Results in Their Offspring, Consciousness,
And Supports Abundance in the
Seasons of Growth.
