Dynamic aspects for May include one conjunction, one opposition, four squares, one occultation, one Lunar eclipse, one new Moon, three ingresses, three stations (1 direct & 2 Rx), and one ending shadow point (ESP). We are firmly involved in the Moon's regular OOB cycle (see end of report).

Shared energies for the first half of May include the ability to take action in several choices simultaneously, and to take a solid role in leadership. There is an emphasis on ease of communication and accomplishment. Many will take pleasure in debates and arguments. Vigorous collaboration and mutual assistance is possible when people shed their masks and communicate in an open and truthful manner. This summer is a time of retribution. Actions previously taken are likely to be mirrored back to the initiator, whether constructive or destructive; karmic situations may be consciously (or unconsciously) resolved. Irrational or impatient behavior during the past month can be changed and brought under control. May promises to be a month of solitude, where much internal processing can be accomplished, and each person will need to deal with their own „inner demons.

Venus and Mars continue to travel north through the dizzying heights beyond the ecliptic (out of bounds) for the entire month. Issues concerning our values, talents and resources, and our efforts, accomplishments, and pursuit of happiness take on an enhanced, eccentric tone. We can stretch beyond our traditional paths and methods to fill those needs, try alternative or unfamiliar patterns. If we're not attentive, our behavior sometimes gets out of control. Positive keywords include: unrestrained, increased independence, non-conformism, enhancement, and adventurism.

5/1 Venus opposes Pluto Rx 11:15 PM, 21:52 Gemini/Sagittarius. A deep and genuine need to be productive may motivate innovative and ingenious projects. A most fertile time.

5/4 Lunar Eclipse, west coast 1:33 PM, east coast 4:33 PM, 14:42 Scorpio. A diversionary incident can change plans and create emphasis on a new course of action, with new goals. Strong, disparate and divisionary opinions surface. West coast issues deal with travel, communication, philosophical questions, and a change in status; east coast concerns deal with personal and shared values, and different viewpoints.

Jupiter turns direct 8:07 PM, 8:55 Virgo. Common sense and constructive principles need to be put into place. Since January, policies and procedures have felt stifling and repressive. Become a conceptualist; categorize all the details that seem to thwart you, and you will be able to address groups of problems rather than having to deal with details one at a time, and becoming inundated by minutiae.

5/5 Sun squares Neptune 5:48 AM, 15:21 Taurus/Aquarius. Intuitive techniques enable us to tune into the collective consciousness and the ultimate source of knowledge. Faith often precludes a reasoning process, which may come later.

5/7 Mars enters Cancer 1:45 AM. Efforts concerning the forceful defense of the security and protection of ones loved ones slide into existence. Moon stretches beyond the ecliptic to the south through May 10th, balancing Mars and Venus, who are beyond the Sun's highest declination to the north.

5/15 Mercury enters Taurus 11:54 PM. An exchange of roles is possible that brings to the surface a cooperative spirit. Inner resources and values are more easily expressed, and we are able to bridge our ideas into outer manifestation.

5/17 Neptune turns Rx 5:13 AM, 15:24 Aquarius. A time to reexamine our spiritual roots. We are at a critical junction where we can choose to concentrate less on our differences, and more on those inner beliefs that we have in common.

Venus turns Rx 3:29 PM, 26:08 Gemini. No longer as concerned about simply retaining a loving attitude, rather more interested in integration of ego energies, we can begin building a connection with innovative, or unconventional ways to infuse logical values into our lives. Before Venus returns to this degree on August 3, a lot of possibilities can be explored.

Mercury ESP (leaves shadow) 6:45 PM, 1:56 Taurus. Expression of values or presentation of talents with conviction and confidence is possible. Newfound self-assurance may be integrated into your life, changing your image and your effectiveness.

5/18 New Moon, 28:33 Taurus, west coast 9:52 PM. Strong foundations may be built now for beginning new projects. Make preparations now for supportive resources that seem to be just out of reach. But keep your attitudes positive, so that when opportunities arise you will be there to meet them. West coast issues deal with nurturance and peer relationships centered on assistance services or working connections with employees.

5/19 New Moon, east coast 12:52 AM. East coast situations involve domestic possessions, property, and agreements.

5/20 Sun enters Gemini 9:59 AM. Negotiations are more likely to be workable, with unusual outcomes. Remember that if something seems to be too good to be true, it probably is. Look at as many possibilities as you can visualize. Put your mental energies into the possible future that benefits your adversaries as well as your own agendas.

5/21 Moon occults Venus Rx OOB, 5:13 AM, 25:53 Gemini. An interruption in the flow of the familiar path to your desired level of comfort may convince you that the once-reliable patterns simply do not work the same way any more. (Moon is out of bounds from 5/20 - 5/25) Time to reach outside normal limits to entertain new possibilities. Don't spread your resources too thin. Discussion rather than action helps you keep your cool. Pool your resources with responsible associates. Trust your instincts.

5/24 Mars conjoins Saturn 10:39 PM, 11:19 Cancer. The temptation is to risk action when your peers are playing it safe. There are opportunities obtainable that are not quite evident. Rather than act now, use this time to compare and contrast, putting off your decisions until the pressure is lowered, or investigate an investment with a younger or newer person or group.

5/27 Sun squares Uranus 9:43 AM, 6:43 Gemini/Pisces. Crisis in management or group dynamics need your attention. You may be able to quickly solve the problems presented to you, or you may be better instead as an advisor. If you don't have the right tools or answers, you will know where to find them.

Mercury squares Neptune, Rx 6:09 PM, 15:22 Taurus/Aquarius. After precipitously sharing mistaken or misleading information, some may feel the need to "save face". Conscious awareness and truth are the best methods of resolution. Examine your belief system. Allow spiritual and/or moral support from within guide you; and act on it.

5/30 Sun squares Jupiter 5:33 PM, 9:54 Gemini/Virgo. Now its time to examine new methods of reaching your goals, taking into account what you have learned from your past experience. It may mean revising your goals or switching to a new field that more appropriately takes advantage of your potential.

May 2004 Symbolism

May was named for Maia Majestas, the grandmother goddess of spring, mother of the Roman god, Mercury (Gr. Hermes), and chief goddess of the Seven Sisters (Pleiades). Other goddesses are honored in May: Maya, mother source of the Buddha; the Greek goddess Rhea, mother of Zeus and other Olympians; and Cybele, oracular priestess and Anatolian Mountain Mother. May is traditionally the month of fertility and procreation in all nature religions. May first marks the hand fasting, between the Mother Goddess and God, the mystical union between the Divine Feminine and the Divine Masculine, which results in the offspring, Consciousness, and the fruitfulness of the growing season.

The gemstone of May is the green emerald, said to improve psychic powers, sharpen intellect, intuition and memory. It is also reported to improve learning ability and communication, and to heal the nervous system. The emerald is associated with the planet Mercury and the sense of smell. May's color is green, for abundance, growth, fertility and prosperity. The plant sacred to May is the Hawthorne, also known as the May Tree or Whitethorn, which blooms in May.

From sunset to sunset on April 30/May 1 we celebrate the festival of Beltane, bel=good or bright, taine=fire. The fiery nature of the Sun will reach the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice on May 5th. This opens a connection between the personal and the communal -- the seasonal and celestial levels that can offer purification and healing for those willing to let go of destructive habits and behaviors and to open up to new ideals and attitudes. Beltane is one of the eight sacred nature festivals, based on the apparent movement of the Sun as it defines the seasons of the year. Many religious holy days begin with sundown on the previous calendar day. This is based on a passage in the Old Testament, Genesis, which reads, „The evening and the morning were the first day.

May 1, 1881 was the birthday of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Holographic thinker and presenter of the concept of the unity of natural and human consciousness.

May 2 is Mawlid al-Nabi, celebrating the birthday of Muhammad, founder of Islam, born in 570 AD. Celebrated by many Muslims as a great event of inner joy and happiness, they recount the life of the Prophet, including his forgiveness for even his bitterest enemies, and his triumphs through Allah&Mac226;s mercy over the hearts of men.

The May 4 Full Moon is the Wesak Moon, also called the Buddhic Moon. This marks the celebration of Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and the yearly return of the Buddha to bless our world. All people are invited to join the gathering of souls to affirm the Divine plan for our planet and all humanity. Many groups conduct ritual celebrations at the time of the full Moon to awaken higher consciousness toward blending all Earth beings into a united whole. They ask for wisdom, love, knowledge and the spiritual vitalization of humanity during the coming year. Wesak is the ancient festival of Unity Consciousness that transcends all religion and belief systems, joining people of diverse beliefs by basic ideas that all share.

The May 4/5 Eta Aquarids meteor shower, the illumination of Halley's comet's leftover dust particles that burn up in Earth's atmosphere at this time of year. Expect 30-60 per hour around 4 am. Meteors are said to be gifts of Light from Angels. The radiant is at the neck of the Water Bearer, the constellation of Aquarius, which is square to the full Moon.

May 5 marks the victory of the brave but outnumbered Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, which came to be known simply as „Cinco de Mayo‰. It came to represent a symbol of national unity, dedication, and patriotism, and as such is a holiday that celebrates the spirit of freedom.

May 9 the second Sunday in May is Mother's Day, originally a festival to honor the ancient Grecian Rhea, mother of the gods, and Cybele, Roman mother goddess. In 17th century England, the fourth Sunday in Lent was known as Mothering Sunday. In the US, a day to honor mothers was first issued by the governor of West Virginia in 1910, a result of a letter-writing campaign started by Anna M. Jarvis. A congressional joint resolution was passed on May 8, 1914 making it a national holiday. An International Mother's Day Association was incorporated on December 12, 1912. A red carnation means that mother is still living; a white carnation stands for a mother who has passed on.

May 15 is sacred to the goddess Maia and to Vesta, goddess of the hearth. (The Ides of the months, March, May, July and October fall on the 15th; Ides of all other months fall on the 13th)On this day, Vestal Virgins, Vesta's temple priestesses performed a ritual that addressed the regulation of the coming summer's water supply, the basis of support for all life. In ancient days, the temple handmaidens and oracle-priestesses managed resources, such as calculating festival calendars, as well as acting as intermediary between divinities and the populace.

This year, the Christian feast of the Ascension of Christ is May 20th, the fortieth day after Easter. The Ascension is the ultimate of transformative energies, the overcoming of death, which was the purpose of the life of the Christ.

Samuel F. B. Morse inaugurated the first telegraph message between Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD on May 24, 1844; and Alexander Graham Bell sent his first successful telephone transmission on June 2, 1875 in Boston, MA. Success in both communication devices was achieved with the Sun in Gemini.

May 26 is the Jewish feast of Shavuot (the festival of the first fruits and the gift of the Torah), celebrating when Moses brought the 10 Commandments down from Mt. Sinai. This festival is seven weeks after Passover. It is a good time to reflect on the gifts of Law and Spirit that enable us to live honorably and reputably, and an excellent time to recognize and appreciate these attributes in our associates.

May 27 marks the 14th annual celebration of the Red Mass in Fort Lauderdale, FL, sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society for those who espouse the moral principles of St. Thomas More. First instituted in the Thirteenth Century to officially open the term of court for most countries in Europe, it has been celebrated in the US since 1928. Celebrants of the mass were government officials, lawyers and judges, who would file into church clothed in red vestments or garments, invoking the fire of the Holy Spirit's guidance to those who make the pursuit of justice a tradition in their daily lives, most specifically to invoke God's blessing on all protectors and administrators of the Law.

May 30 is the Christian feast of the Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled the disciples with its gifts revealing itself as tongues of fire and rushing winds. This takes place seven weeks after Easter, completing the holy season. It has become a traditional day for baptism and confirmation.

May 31 is Memorial Day in the United States. Memorial Day was first celebrated on May 30, 1868 to remember and honor men who died in the Civil War by decorating their graves. It was known then as „Decoration Day.‰ Since then, the holiday is kept to memorialize all servicemen who fought and died in defense of our country. May seems to be a month of remembrance, but it does not have to be full of sadness, but of honor and esteem; it is an excellent time to recognize and appreciate the attributes of honor and bravery in our living associates as well.

Mothers Are as Total as the Sky

Mothers Are as Total as the Sky
Older than the earth, and more enduring,
They're rooted in our hearts like ancient trees,
Halfway down to seething lava seas;
Emblazoned on our sail, and on our mooring.
Returning home, we dwell within their sigh:
So maddening, so rich, so reassuring.

April Report - Passover correction - Thank you!

Realizing that the significance of Passover is very important, one of my readers reminded me that the Passover was not about protecting the Hebrew first born from Pharaoh but from the Angel of Death himself. The angel of death was sent to kill all the first born in Egypt for Pharaoh's refusal to honor his word to release the Hebrews. The Hebrews were commanded to paint the blood of a sacrificed lamb around the door posts of their houses If the angel saw the blood on the doorway, the angel passed over, and the firstborn of that house was spared.
