March hosts 20 dynamic aspects: 4 conjunctions, 4 squares, 4 ingresses, 2 retrograde stations, 1 occultation, 1 opposition, 1 direct station, 1 BSP, 1 new and 1 full Moon. The month is filled with change due, in part to challenges to philosophical opinions. Many of these perspectives are the results of distillation and refinement through the fine-tuning of previously planned endeavors. On a personal level, creation of balance between self-nurturing and self-protective qualities (3/3-3/6 & 3/17-3/20) can be enabled through self-analysis of values, talents, and growth potential (3/1 ˆ 3/21). Initiate responsible activities (3/1, 3/20-3/26, 3/29-30). In relationships, investigate and find values in each other‚s roles (3/25-26, 3/30). In mundane matters, evaluate activities that involve the balancing of nurturing and protection (3/4-3/6, 3/17-3/20), and finding the balance between self-determination and shared ideologies (all month). Sample new perspectives, adjusting to those that better suit your life goals.

3/1 Mercury squares Pluto 11:39 AM, 20:24 Pisces/Sagittarius. Challenges to a power-base due to profound changes in thinking and thought processes. Powerful allies are available if you prove your worth through shared goals and ideas. Carefully evaluate others‚ persuasive words.

3/3 Mars squares Jupiter Rx 2:13 AM, 17:32 Capricorn/Libra; Moon OOB 25:27 S. confrontations based on emotional perceptions may be relieved by backing up your position with profitable assets. Not necessarily true to the implied promise, capturing the prize may be elusive.

3/4 Venus conjoins Uranus 12:43 AM 7:10 Pisces. Discover unique talents or abilities previously hidden or undeveloped. Uncover food allergies or reassess your nutritional intake to support a healthy lifestyle. Enhance your value system by initiating spiritual studies.

Mercury enters Aries 5:43 PM. Enthusiasm enhances thought processes and communications. Get your message across with animation and passion, and solid facts to back it up.

3/5 Mercury BSP (Beginning Shadow Point) 7:20 PM, 1:45 Aries. Moon OOB 27:24 S. Undisciplined actions can cause you delays. Pay close attention to all documents, communication, or paperwork. You may pick up clues about subjects that may be revealed or hidden, and will undergo shifts in meaning through May 1. Insights can be gained by viewing other sides of an issue.

3/7 Mars opposes Saturn Rx 8:15 AM, 20:35 Capricorn/Cancer. If responsibilities from the past are accomplished, loyalty and dependability may be rewarded.

3/10 New Moon 19:54 Pisces, west coast 1:10 AM; east coast 4:10 AM. Beginning new ventures based upon moral or spiritual principles can bring about quality growth and development, and opportunities will open to contribute to their success. West coast: unusual opportunities in writing, communicating or local travel may become available. East coast: enrichment and appreciation of value will support new projects. A good time to develop latent talents and abilities, or newly discovered inner resources.

3/14 Sun squares Pluto 3:16 PM, 24:28 Pisces/Sagittarius. Moon OOB 28:18 N (all week). Family situations can become intense. Power struggles arise to challenge your leadership. Keep your ego in check, and instead work on your self-image. If you believe in yourself, that will shine through and become a force for success.

3/17 Venus squares Pluto 10:14 PM, 24:30 Pisces/Sagittarius. Examine your inner values, as they will be tested to see if they support your life purpose. Avoid over-consumption of sweets.

3/19 Mercury turns Rx 4:15 PM, 14:06 Aries. A good time to pay special attention to paperwork, especially with taxes coming due. The natural thing to do is to hurry and get unpleasant jobs out of the way, but spend a little extra time and be careful to save problems later. Shortcuts of any kind can cause omissions that may not be found until April or later, and could sabotage relationships or projects.

3/20 Sun enters Aries 4:33 AM. Motivation is elevated in many areas. Some see this as an opportunity to make their goals succeed, if they can use the energy without it getting out of control. Keep on the lookout for over-optimistic actions, and double check all your transactions. Keep your conscious awareness fully in the present moment.

3/20 Mars enters Aquarius 10:01 AM. A choice must be made whether to activate traditional or innovative methods in your projects. There may not be any current assistance for the innovative, while more conservative associations may be supportive.

3/21 Saturn turns direct 6:54 PM, 20:24 Cancer. Traditional projects that have seemed sluggish can begin to move toward success, but that requires patience, which is difficult to come by right now. Everything seems to fall just short of contact or completion, which contributes even more to a great deal of irritation and impatience.

3/22 Venus enters Aries, 8:24 AM. There are now possible opportunities for healing relationships, with tolerance and forbearance. In all interactions, you need to use caution, and to avoid misunderstandings. Discuss your inner values calmly, and find where you agree instead of emphasizing the differences. Decide where you will be willing to yield and where you need to be firm.

3/25 Full Moon 5:18 Libra/Aries, west coast 12:58 PM; east coast 3:58 PM. A romantic time of the year, full of opportunity to share ideas and ideals, and to learn from others‚ experiences. Loyalty will become a very important catalyst for successful relationships. West coast: people from divers backgrounds or cultures may find a common link to the future. East coast: finding a means to link personal and shared values or resources may produce future alliances. A time for idea sharing. Practical application will come later.

3/26 Moon occults Jupiter Rx 7:01 AM, 15:00 Libra, 4:50 S. An interruption of developmental energies cuts into the process, allowing a time for reorganization and reorientation. New perspectives are possible, even welcome, as intensities need to be given a breather.

Pluto turns Rx 6:29 PM, 24:31 Sagittarius. The educational process and foreign relationships may stall or seem to need an infusion of faith and trust, while reorganization is discussed and implemented. This is a slow, four-month process that will have input from many sources. Keep hope alive.

3/29 Sun conjoins Mercury Rx 8:09 AM, 9:04 Aries. Opportunities for communicating core values arise. Emotionally based hopes and fears must be put into perspective.

Mercury Rx conjoins Venus 12:29 PM, 8:55 Aries. Evaluation of the past, with an eye to future activity that can contribute value to your project needs to be supported, for the hope of future success. Attention to quality breathing of clean air will help keep your spirits up, and support good health habits.

3/30 Sun conjoins Venus 7:29 PM, 10:31 Aries. Healing can more easily take place when attitudes are kept positive. Guard your communication, and think before you speak. Inner enlightenment is more likely than outward accomplishment.

MARCH 2005 SYMBOLISM

March was named for Mars, the great Roman warrior god, son of Juno and Jupiter. This was an appropriate association, for in the ancient world of the Mediterranean, the third month was known for its intense and tempestuous weather. The inner theme of March deals with developing wisdom and compassion, and finding one's life path. The search for self is associated with Mars, as it is a process that precludes association with others. This process is a lonely path, and requires great stamina and the development of inner strength. Mars rules the next sign, Aries which begins in mid-month.

March's gemstone is the bloodstone, also known as the heliotrope, which means the "turning of the Sun." This refers to the equinoctial passage of the Sun to the Northern Hemisphere. In the Christian tradition, the bloodstone, deep green jasper with crimson spots, is symbolic of the blood of the Christ spilled at Golgotha by a Roman soldier‚s spear. The stone is said to hold a divine power to stop hemorrhaging, and was widely used in folk medicine to stop nosebleeds and cure wasting diseases. The bloodstone was employed in rituals at the time of eclipses to invoke invisibility, and was used by Pliny, the Elder as a mirror with which to safely view Solar eclipses. The stone was used as an amulet by the Gnostics to prolong life, and in thumb rings (the Mars digit) by the Egyptians, to sustain courage.

March first is St. David's Day, patron of Glastonbury and Wales, an ascetic monk and bishop of the 6th century, also known as "Aquaticus", because he drank only water, and used water as a body purifier. The early March Sun is in Pisces, a water sign associated with spiritual interests.

March 1 is also the World Day of Prayer, which dates back to the 19th century Christian women of the United States and Canada in support of women‚s involvement in missions. Over the years this idea has grown and been accepted by many countries and many religions. Bishop Diadochus, spiritual writer of the 5th century was the first Christian to teach that repeated prayer led to inner stillness. The "Jesus Prayer", as some call it was a very short prayer acknowledging God, and offering a petition for mercy. The practice of repeated prayer is used in many religions with the use of prayer beads or prayer ropes, and becomes a powerful ritual. Repeatable patterns are a factor that joins many religions and spiritual practices. Venus, which is exalted in Pisces shows great affinity with the number 5.

Albert Einstein was also born on March 1, 1879 at 11:30 AM LMT in Ulm, Germany. June 30, 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of his first monograph on the Special Theory of Relativity. He was born with 8 different quintile family aspects (7 of his planets and both nodes are involved), including Venus to the Moon‚s North Node, and the Moon to Jupiter. John Chapman, who was born on September 26, 1774 near Leominister, MA (with his Moon approaching a quintile to his Venus) is associated with the pentangle. He was affectionately known as Johnny Appleseed, and his life's work was to journey through the wilderness between the Ohio and the Mississippi Rivers, south of the Great Lakes, planting apple seeds. When cut open horizontally, the apple seeds show up as a five-pointed star. He died March 18, 1845 near Fort Wayne, IN (with the transiting Moon and Venus in an approaching biquintile, and the transiting Venus exactly on his natal South Node) after planting millions of apple seeds. Both charts contain many quintile family aspects.

March 8th is International Women‚s Day, and March is Women's History Month.

The number three is sacred to March, the third month. The triangle, being the strongest of all figures, is used in many religions to signify strength and to symbolize the unity of the three basic attributes of their beliefs. The triple-goddess in pagan beliefs and mythology is used to signify the three stages in the process of life: fertility, nurturance and wisdom. In Jewish folklore, it symbolizes the closing of the circle of wisdom. In this story, the Jewish elder, Mordecai recognized 3 principles of faith from out of the mouths of 3 young boys: "fear not, speak the truth, and God will protect", a connection to the symbolism of the three sacred monkeys: "hear no evil, speak no evil, and see no evil". Christian symbolism is woven into our culture in many ways. The Lenten cycle has constant reminders of the Holy Trinity, such as cloverleaf rolls, and the lowly pretzel (German for "little arms"), a tiny three lobed loaf of bread, representing crossed arms. In the 4th century, one was eaten each day of Lent, as a symbol of prayer, fasting, and pious works.

St Patrick, a Celt with Roman citizenship, who converted to Christianity in fifth century Ireland, used the abundant shamrocks to teach the lessons of the Trinity. St Patrick, whose death is commemorated on March 17, utilized an ancient Gaelic invocation called the Lorica, or The Breastplate. He used it to shape-shift himself and his monks into deer when they were pursued and persecuted by King Loegaire‚s troops. The Lorica has been used by many over the centuries as a magical invocation of Divine energy, and reflects the presumption of astrology being accepted and used throughout early centuries. The Lorica is filled with astrological symbolism:

St. Patrick‚s Lorica
"I arise to-day - Through the strength of heaven;
Light of Sun, - Radiance of Moon,
Splendour of fire, - Speed of Lightning,
Swiftness of wind, - Depth of sea,
Stability of earth, - Firmness of rock.
I arise today - In acceptance of the Three, Supported by the One."

The Vernal Equinox is on March 20 this year. Equinox means "equal night", and is the moment when the Sun crosses the equator in the juncture between the dark and light halves of the year, when the days and nights are equal at the equator. It is the midpoint between the Solstices (the turning points of the Sun‚s yearly motion). It is a day of honor for Iduna, or Idunn (A Scandinavian goddess), the equivalent of the Greek Hebe. This goddess is the spring symbol of the triple goddess, and was charged with supplying youth and strength to the rest of the gods and goddesses by providing them with the ambrosia and nectar of immortality. She is the maiden form of Hera, whose name means "Our Lady", who was the primary goddess before the advent of patriarchal gods. This is also the day that Sri Ushas, (Hindu goddess of the Dawn) is honored.

Palm Sunday is March 20 this year. Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Current ceremonies include the blessing of the palms, the ashes of which are used on next year‚s Good Friday to symbolize the passion and sacrifice of the Crucifixion. The palm tree stands for hope in the future (The palm is the tree of life in the Babylonian Garden of Eden story). The Hebrew word for the palm tree is Tamar, their name for the goddess, Ashtaroth. Lent has its parallel in the 40 days of abstinence, thanksgiving, and petition for healing and mercy that precedes the pagan festival of Astarte (aka Ashtoreth, Ishtar, Venus). As the goddess of the evening star of love, desire, and fecundity (different from the fire-goddess of the morning star of war and battle), Astarte was a healer, famous for saving and regenerating a palm tree torn from the Garden of Eden by a great flood. The Venus position attending Easter 2005 barely rises before the Sun, so close to the Sun that it is rendered invisible. The militant Venus is in process of transforming into the loving goddess of the evening, and will make her appearance in that guise in early May. Venus‚ cycles form a 5-pointed star in the heavens in her 8-year cycle. The quintile family (the zodiac divided by 5) is associated with genius and facility. The number 5 is also associated with Leonardo da Vinci‚s "number of man".

The number 5 is special to March 23 (2+3=5), Buddhist Magha Puja Day, when Buddhists gather together to affirm their 5 Precepts: Respect for Life; Respect for personal property; Respect for personal relationships; Respect for truth; and Respect for mental and physical well-being ˆ cornerstone of Buddhism.
Jewish festival of Purim begins on March 25 the eve of the 14th day of Adar in their Lunar calendar. It is a joyous time, celebrating Queen Esther‚s victorious intercession in an ancient plot to kill Persian Jews. The theme of Purim is a clever use of the law, aimed at the goal of the triumph of good over evil.
Good Friday is also on March 25 this year. It is the day that Jesus died on the cross, and is a day of mourning in preparation for the Easter Resurrection.
In the Christian religion, The Annunciation, March 25th celebrates the unconcealing of the mission of Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary, when the angel Gabriel announced that she would give birth to the Savior. In the British Church, it is called Lady Day, to commemorate the philanthropic works of twelfth century Lady Mabella Tichborne, who overcame great physical odds just before her death, to make sure that the poor were annually provided for. Known as the "Tichborne Dole," her wishes are carried out to this day. In some of the nature religions, Invocations are made on March 25th to many of the major goddesses: e.g., Isis, Venus, Tara, and Persephone, to bring enlightenment to women regarding their missions in life.

Easter, on March 27 is a Christian moveable feast that always falls on the first Sunday after the full Moon following the spring equinox. The Resurrection of The Christ symbolizes the eternal nature of the soul, and is supported by the blossoming of the land after the struggle of winter. In the Wiccan religion it is called Ostara, named after Oestra, goddess of spring. It is the celebration of life returning to the Earth.

March 28 is also one of the Buddhist celebrations of Quan Yin, goddess of mercy, wisdom, healing and compassion. She was a holy woman who gave up her Buddhic state to help bring enlightenment to all of humanity.
